Gemon Green has declared for the NFL draft

We need to hit the portal asap for some help. We basically have Will Johnson as a proven corner.

The most optimistic view of this news would be that Green knows what a healthy McBurrows can do and was likely to supplant him next year.  There was some chatter that Jaden was ready to break out this year until his injury.  Maybe this will be like a Chris Hinton situation with the DL last year.  That's the best hope right now.

There are a few worth kicking the tires actually. Demorie Tate from FSU, Isaiah Johnson from Ariz St, Tyis Fields from Old Dominion via TN, Salina Turned Mohammed from Stanford and Tony Davis from Duke are all four stars.

I’m not too worried about CB depth when the only team that we need the depth for is against OSU. Have almost a whole year to develop depth. Also Green probably doesn’t want to be in college for a 6th year, don’t blame him for wanting to bounce.

I'd guess Sainristill is the other starter and we hope for health from Jaden McBurrows or a full time move to defense for Amorion Walker.  Jyaire Hill should get a lot of playing time by default and let's hope Myles Pollard is able to get on the field.  Hopefully some transfer candidates become available after spring practice but otherwise we're banking on internal improvement from our developmental guys.  Coach em up Click...

I thought one of him or Turner would have returned but Green was the guy I kept hearing really wanted to go pro.  Makes sense - he's been in college for a while now and given his size he should be viewed favorably by NFL teams.

Wish him luck.  I do think UM will have to figure out the other corner spot but there are some guys on the roster with potential (they really liked McBurrows and he probably would have rotated in this year had he not been hurt).  And yeah, have to kick the tires in the transfer portal.

Okay, this hurts a little...  Need some corner help - hopefully one of the redshirts has been doing a credible imitation of Will Johnson!

Nonetheless, good luck in the league, Gemon!  I know you're represent yourself, and Michigan, very well.

I do not know why people are shocked by this. He was given a star in FFFF at some point this season due to his excellent play. He did get passed by Will Johnson after he got concussed in the tunnel but Will Johnson is elite. It does not change the body of his work this year and he has already been here 5 years.

Ja'Den McBurrows is probably ready to step up and we can hit the portal.

Jyaire Hill and Mikey and Zeke Berry. Some trial by fire but Will faired well and he had maybe a little more skill but less moxie than Jyaire. Keon Sabb at Safety should step up. Same uncertainty yearly. Believe in the process. Worked well the last two years.

Was thinking the same thing.  We do NOT face a high-powered passing attack until very late in the season.  There is plenty of time between now and the fall to see who CB #2 will be behind Will Johnson.

We've recruited quite a few DB's in the last few cycles, time for one to shine.  The sky is not falling as college is all about next man up.

Also, an improved pass rush will help mitigate some concerns about the secondary.

Can't we at least say congratulations and good luck to the kid before going into full panic and mental breakdown mode? Yikes. He's been here for 5 five years, had a solid senior year and wants to move on in life. He might go on to be an UDFA, but he's giving his dream a shot and another year at Michigan wouldn't really help him raise his stock. Someone behind him will have a shot at playing time and hopefully can step up. Let's keep some perspective.

Bummer.

I do think between McBurrows, Kody Jones, and Sainristil with Moore or other safety at nickel will be fine.

we have good coaches now so it will be ok

I'm not sure whether Gemon in NFL material; perhaps he is but I would not be willing to wager on it.  On the other than he will never know if he doesn't try.  Sometimes there is just a time to move on with life and he has been with us for a long time.  He may not want to be a student any longer and if that is the case NIL will not bridge the gap.  I wish him the best of luck.

Nobody seems to be mentioning his brother German.  Is he coming back?  I always liked that we had them both.  Solid contributors and all the best to Gemon.

I wish him well. He's been through a lot in the last three year:

1. Got badly torched by MSU in 2020, making Rocky Lombardi look like Dan Marino 1984. He and Gray helped accelerate DBs exit as well Zordich, which turned out to be a great thing.

2. Lost starting job to DJ mid-2021. Didn't pout. Played pretty solid nickel vs. PSU and Ohio.

3. Was on verge of losing starting job to Will when he was brutally attacked in tunnel after MSU game. Don't recall him getting much playing time after he came back with Mike as nickel.

Glad he got his degree and two B1G title rings.

I see him a step below Vincent Gray, who has not played for NOLA but is on the practice squad.

He may get a chance as an UDFA but can't see him playing at all in the NFL. Maybe CFL. Either way, after 5 years he's proven what he can. Would love him back for depth but not sure if he'd look any better than he did on that 1st jump ball by MSU.
