Thank you, some people just don't want to be in college for six years.
January 11th, 2023 at 10:45 AM ^
Yep. Might as well try to collect a few years of NFL money before moving onto your post-NFL career. If his draft stock isn't going to improve, might as well get out earlier
January 11th, 2023 at 10:16 AM ^
Well, shit. Hopefully Jaden McBurrows is recovered, a young guy can step up, or the Domani Jackson chatter is true
January 11th, 2023 at 10:21 AM ^
The most optimistic view of this news would be that Green knows what a healthy McBurrows can do and was likely to supplant him next year. There was some chatter that Jaden was ready to break out this year until his injury. Maybe this will be like a Chris Hinton situation with the DL last year. That's the best hope right now.
January 11th, 2023 at 10:16 AM ^
There are a few worth kicking the tires actually. Demorie Tate from FSU, Isaiah Johnson from Ariz St, Tyis Fields from Old Dominion via TN, Salina Turned Mohammed from Stanford and Tony Davis from Duke are all four stars.
January 11th, 2023 at 10:17 AM ^
Not sure he is ready for that.
January 11th, 2023 at 10:17 AM ^
I'll just say it....we are 1 injury away from having a 2010 kinda year where Troy Woolfolk went down and our defense imploded.
January 11th, 2023 at 10:26 AM ^
We're one injury away from having the 110th ranked defense in the country? Call me an optimist, but...
January 11th, 2023 at 10:35 AM ^
Nah, 2010 was a tire fire of epic proportions and Woolfolk wasn't changing that.
January 11th, 2023 at 10:37 AM ^
We are loaded at every defensive position outside of CB. I think we will be fine.
January 11th, 2023 at 10:41 AM ^
Dude, our issues on defense in 2010 went way beyond thin CB depth.
January 11th, 2023 at 11:07 AM ^
You said "it"...and "it's" ridiculous. Check the depth at DL,LB and S in 2010 and see what you find.
January 11th, 2023 at 10:18 AM ^
I’m not too worried about CB depth when the only team that we need the depth for is against OSU. Have almost a whole year to develop depth. Also Green probably doesn’t want to be in college for a 6th year, don’t blame him for wanting to bounce.
January 11th, 2023 at 3:46 PM ^
We don't need depth in the Penn St. game or the playoffs?! Coach mora voice
January 11th, 2023 at 10:19 AM ^
is there another DB in the WR room? Mikey has worked out pretty well.
January 11th, 2023 at 10:26 AM ^
Andrel....oops, never mind.
January 11th, 2023 at 10:33 AM ^
maybe that's why he left? lol
January 11th, 2023 at 3:49 PM ^
No, he left because he only got 15 targets on the season. And he didn't want his potential draft position compromised going forward, losing millions because a staff can't/won't modernize their passing game, a la DPJ.
January 11th, 2023 at 10:33 AM ^
Weren't other teams recruiting Amorion at DB?
January 11th, 2023 at 11:06 AM ^
Cristian Dixon has good size but not sure if he played the position.
I think the more likely scenario would be for Zeke Berry to move over from S to CB. He was a highly rated multi-position player in HS.
January 11th, 2023 at 10:19 AM ^
I think he is missing a real opportunity to improve his game and his stock.
January 11th, 2023 at 10:21 AM ^
To be a 4th-6th rounder? Makes no sense.
January 11th, 2023 at 10:26 AM ^
Hinton had 2 years of eligibility and left to not even be an initial round of UDFA. Maybe being a pro football player isn’t the end goal and Gemon feels that if it’s gonna happen at all, now is the time to give it a shot
January 11th, 2023 at 10:33 AM ^
He's been at UM for 5 years and I can't imagine he'd improve much in terms of draft potential coming back. At some point you have to move on to your next step of a career, and he's leaving with a degree and some titles in his pocket. Not a bad college career.
January 11th, 2023 at 10:33 AM ^
He was never gonna have the athleticism to go higher than that in the draft. Leaving with his stock at an all time high absolutely makes sense for him.
January 11th, 2023 at 10:54 AM ^
Lmao. As if getting drafted in any round is a bad thing. Get a grip folks. Good luck to the kid. You guys act like he's not that all that good but butt hurt he's leaving.
January 11th, 2023 at 10:27 AM ^
I'd guess Sainristill is the other starter and we hope for health from Jaden McBurrows or a full time move to defense for Amorion Walker. Jyaire Hill should get a lot of playing time by default and let's hope Myles Pollard is able to get on the field. Hopefully some transfer candidates become available after spring practice but otherwise we're banking on internal improvement from our developmental guys. Coach em up Click...
January 11th, 2023 at 10:29 AM ^
I thought one of him or Turner would have returned but Green was the guy I kept hearing really wanted to go pro. Makes sense - he's been in college for a while now and given his size he should be viewed favorably by NFL teams.
Wish him luck. I do think UM will have to figure out the other corner spot but there are some guys on the roster with potential (they really liked McBurrows and he probably would have rotated in this year had he not been hurt). And yeah, have to kick the tires in the transfer portal.
January 11th, 2023 at 10:32 AM ^
Darn. Best of luck, love seeing guys who worked so hard for their spots succeed. But yeah, we need a CB2 badly.
January 11th, 2023 at 10:34 AM ^
Okay, this hurts a little... Need some corner help - hopefully one of the redshirts has been doing a credible imitation of Will Johnson!
Nonetheless, good luck in the league, Gemon! I know you're represent yourself, and Michigan, very well.
January 11th, 2023 at 10:34 AM ^
I do not know why people are shocked by this. He was given a star in FFFF at some point this season due to his excellent play. He did get passed by Will Johnson after he got concussed in the tunnel but Will Johnson is elite. It does not change the body of his work this year and he has already been here 5 years.
Ja'Den McBurrows is probably ready to step up and we can hit the portal.
January 11th, 2023 at 10:36 AM ^
Mikey move to the outside and one of the hyper athletic freshy safeties to Nickel? That is my prediction could be way off base
January 11th, 2023 at 10:38 AM ^
Jyaire Hill and Mikey and Zeke Berry. Some trial by fire but Will faired well and he had maybe a little more skill but less moxie than Jyaire. Keon Sabb at Safety should step up. Same uncertainty yearly. Believe in the process. Worked well the last two years.
January 11th, 2023 at 10:43 AM ^
Doesn't seem like there's much CB talent left in the portal. Got to hope there may be some guys who aren't in the portal yet who could be targets.
January 11th, 2023 at 10:53 AM ^
Best wishes! Clink will have one side locked up with Will and will have to shore up the other CB. McBurrows and Jyaire will get first crack.
January 11th, 2023 at 10:56 AM ^
The nice thing about next season is that we don't have a real test until we visit MSU on October 21, so we have some time to figure out who can play.
January 11th, 2023 at 12:32 PM ^
Was thinking the same thing. We do NOT face a high-powered passing attack until very late in the season. There is plenty of time between now and the fall to see who CB #2 will be behind Will Johnson.
We've recruited quite a few DB's in the last few cycles, time for one to shine. The sky is not falling as college is all about next man up.
Also, an improved pass rush will help mitigate some concerns about the secondary.
January 11th, 2023 at 10:58 AM ^
Can't we at least say congratulations and good luck to the kid before going into full panic and mental breakdown mode? Yikes. He's been here for 5 five years, had a solid senior year and wants to move on in life. He might go on to be an UDFA, but he's giving his dream a shot and another year at Michigan wouldn't really help him raise his stock. Someone behind him will have a shot at playing time and hopefully can step up. Let's keep some perspective.
January 11th, 2023 at 11:06 AM ^
Good luck Gemon! get paid
January 11th, 2023 at 11:16 AM ^
Wish we had a coach that could go get a transfer at the position right now. Not sure there's time between his Zoom interviews this week, though.
January 11th, 2023 at 11:18 AM ^
Mike Sainristil would like a word with you.
January 11th, 2023 at 11:23 AM ^
Anyone know what Green's draft grade was?
January 11th, 2023 at 11:36 AM ^
Bummer.
I do think between McBurrows, Kody Jones, and Sainristil with Moore or other safety at nickel will be fine.
we have good coaches now so it will be ok
January 11th, 2023 at 11:43 AM ^
I'm not sure whether Gemon in NFL material; perhaps he is but I would not be willing to wager on it. On the other than he will never know if he doesn't try. Sometimes there is just a time to move on with life and he has been with us for a long time. He may not want to be a student any longer and if that is the case NIL will not bridge the gap. I wish him the best of luck.
January 11th, 2023 at 11:59 AM ^
Congrats to Gemon hope he finds a good spot in the NFL. People freaking out but the man was in the program for 5 years!
January 12th, 2023 at 12:39 AM ^
Right? 5 years used to be longest we could hope to keep guy (with 6th years rarely being granted), and we managed to find guys to fill spots when guys left. Unless there is some issue with our CB development that I'm not aware of, I don't see the problem here.
January 11th, 2023 at 12:09 PM ^
and Mike?
January 11th, 2023 at 12:12 PM ^
I wish him the best. Was great having him in the program.
January 11th, 2023 at 12:39 PM ^
Nobody seems to be mentioning his brother German. Is he coming back? I always liked that we had them both. Solid contributors and all the best to Gemon.
January 11th, 2023 at 1:27 PM ^
I wish him well. He's been through a lot in the last three year:
1. Got badly torched by MSU in 2020, making Rocky Lombardi look like Dan Marino 1984. He and Gray helped accelerate DBs exit as well Zordich, which turned out to be a great thing.
2. Lost starting job to DJ mid-2021. Didn't pout. Played pretty solid nickel vs. PSU and Ohio.
3. Was on verge of losing starting job to Will when he was brutally attacked in tunnel after MSU game. Don't recall him getting much playing time after he came back with Mike as nickel.
Glad he got his degree and two B1G title rings.
I see him a step below Vincent Gray, who has not played for NOLA but is on the practice squad.
He may get a chance as an UDFA but can't see him playing at all in the NFL. Maybe CFL. Either way, after 5 years he's proven what he can. Would love him back for depth but not sure if he'd look any better than he did on that 1st jump ball by MSU.
