The summer before Rashan’s freshman year I was in town with my 12 year old son for hockey camp.  We went down for the big Nike/Jordan unveil at the Mden.  Rasgan was there as were a number of people players.  My son went and talked with him and got his autograph.  Rasgan was such a sweet guy, so encouraging and warm to my son.  Afterwards I found his mom on Facebook and sent her a message letting her know how well she raised him.  To my surprise she messaged back, asking about my son and thanking me.  It told me everything I needed to know about her and her son.  Rashan and his mom are Michigan through and through.  If he could be out there for his team, no doubt he would be.

I'm as impressed with his mom as I am with him.

It sounds to me like they are both the type who know that it's their teammates, coaches, and staff that matter--that they are in it together and don't need to worry about or answer to whatever others are saying.

That's encouraging, because there are a lot of idiots out there. If, before the season, we had a thread that was basically "Compare the character and life perspective of Nick Bosa v.s. that of Rashan Gary," who would have had them anywhere close to being similar?

I'm still thankful that she quelled the speculation, though. For a lot of us on the outside, when the noise rises apart from real information, it can increase our anxiety. And she took the time to settle that for us.

I didn't even know this was a thing.  We all saw him go off injured.  Sucks that Michigan players like Rashan and Peppers have to even put up a defense for their sitting due to injury because of other players making decisions.

It'd be great if he could get back a week or two before OSU, but I would happily take a healthy Gary going into the playoffs if we make it.

Many, not me, were speculating because of a lack of information. JMFH doesn't like to give any details on injuries and I get why and have no problem with it. Unfortunately it does leave many of us wondering and some of us worrying needlessly that the reason may be a negative. Just the nature of people I guess.

Not sure what you meant when you said:

because of other players making decisions.

The way the other guys are going, they can probably rest him serviceably until Alabama.

Yeah, that's right: when we BEAT Alabama to go on and take whatever punks the committee decided to rank ahead of us at #2-3.

Get well, Rashan. There's a bright Wolverine (and NFL, and LIFE) future ahead of you!

I’ve never doubted Rashan one iota.  Rashan is, as his mother said and we all know, a Michigan Man and a warrior.

Rest up, get well, and come around that corner in Columbus for a game-changing strip sack!

It is college football, and he is a student at a university. You are not entitled to his medical history. There is no policy in college football where athletic programs are required to release injury information like in the NFL.

The problem has been too many fans have felt entitled to know everything and started rumor-mongering after Nick Bosa dropped out of school. There are some in this fanbase that are just insufferable.

I didn't really care about Tarik Black's given timeframe, and they are not the same injury. There is a difference between bone and ligaments/joints. Healing of bones can be timed better. Harbaugh never game a time frame for Aubrey Solomon. Or Chris Evans. And he used a similar phrase about Evans too "deciding he couldn't play", when Evans tried to see if he could play. It is common expression, and one of the ways a medical professional evaluates an injury: feedback from the patient. Gary tried to see if he could play; and he couldn't.

He is out and can't play right now. It sounds like he is getting closer. What more information do you really need? And why would you want him to play at less than 100% if his replacement is healthy and playing well? I could see having this conversation if Kwity Paye were to get hurt, but I would think most fans would want to hold out Gary and let him heal if we can survive this stretch without him. The team can use a healthy Rashan Gary, not one that is a shell of himself like in the Northwestern game.

I am 100% ok with him sitting out. check my past comments if you want proof.

MY POINT IS HARBAUGH HAD TO KNOW WHAT WAS BEING SAID.Think about all the insiders that were trying to get info on Rashan. You dont think he could have handled it better so that Rashan's MOTHER didn't have to be the one to tell it how it is so people shut the fuck up and stop questioning his character.

Amen.

the hypocrisy of so many on this board...desperate for knowledge and inside scoop about an 18yr old 5* recruit we had to have. Now speculate about the character/toughness of the same kid that Mattison singled out regarding how  tough and committed Gary is.

Umbig11 - a fan and poster that shares information that 99% of people dont have access to-is crucified when he wasnt exactly correct in what he thought was happenning.

It is a bad look. Period.

Your suggestion of Bolivia for them would result in a better blog for the rest of us.

Honestly I see the point. Harbaugh said it was Gary’s decision not to play. Without context it’s easy to spin that uncharitably and blame Gary or take that to mean Gary and Harbaugh disagree.

Harbaugh could have easily shut down speculation by saying “Gary isn’t going to play until he’s 100% ready, and he needs more time to get there. Next question”.

Yeah I mean it’s the simplest most truthful answer to give.   We all know rashan has been dealing with this injury for a while.  Just say he isn’t playing until 100% and that is all anyone needs to know.  No timetable is necessary.   His mom put the whole speculation to bed with her post.  4-6 weeks, so he probably won’t be back until osu, if at all.  I never questioned rashans loyalty, his passion in The amazon documentary was there for all to see.   The injury stuff doesn’t need to be such a mystery.  This is the era of social media where the most minor things get blown out of proportion.

Seriously.

And since we're on a bye and having a good season, if you can stomach reliving some losses from last year I recommend everyone that did not go watch last year's "All or Nothing" on Amazon.  Rashan is featured quite a bit and you will come away with a lot of respect and appreciation.

According to OSU beat-writer Tim May's discussion on the B1G's SiriusXM channel, the soonest Bosa could return from his injury would be OSU's bowl game or the CFP and that is assuming a best case scenario.  So his family decided there's no point to push rehabbing in order to return for that game.

And how many opportunities will he have to be part of a college football team? To stand on the sidelines at home games with his teammates, to be in the film room helping the younger guys?

A guy once said, there is nothing better than playing for the team. Once you leave college you're going to play for a contract, for this, for that, but it won't be the team. How great is it to play for the team?

This is the part I don't get about Bosa. He could have stayed on the team and still focused primarily on rehab to get ready for the NFL. I think it would have shown more character and commitment. I'm sure it will come up in his interviews.

Seriously?  Would you finish your 3rd year of college rather than skip out a year early to possibly make $10M more than if you stayed?  You can always return to OSU for a degree.  Bosa and his family are absolutely right to do what they did...and for the record, it would be right if Gary chose to do the same thing.  This is generational money we are talking about here.

Seriously, he didn't need to drop out of school, not if the best case scenario was returning to the field in January, if at all.  Seriously, he gains nothing by not completing at least this term's school work.  On the contrary, he could have rehabbed on the dime of OSU and concentrated on his studies.  And seriously, there is no given that he fully recovers from his injury or that an NFL team will take a chance on him.  Seriously, there was absolutely no reason to drop out of school at this point.

You aren't listening, whether he drops out of school now or just waits to enter the draft and completes the semester he will still be in the same draft spot. Nobody is saying he shouldn't enter the upcoming draft, the question is just about finishing out the semester.

That's not the issue. He didn't have to play another down and could have entered the NFL draft AND still gone to school. It's one thing to say that you're done playing football at OSU, it's another to completely withdraw from the school. This is not a Rocky movie where he's going to be training every second of the day and has no time to sit in class. Heck, these guys are usually working out, preparing for games, and going to class during the season. He just didn't want to play skool.

Bosa was a CAPTAIN on the buckeye team.  I will not give him a pass given this position I suspect he was voted into by the very guys who thought they would be doing battle with him.  I get not playing or even practicing....focus your rehab for your future, etc....but for him to just up and leave is pretty telling about the man to me....or, maybe it is an unhealthy environment down there.
