The Frank Clark Conundrum

Submitted by MgoFunk on February 3rd, 2020 at 9:38 AM

I was always a big fan of Frank Clark when he was at Michigan but, the reason for his departure was awful.  Admittedly I was much younger then and I don’t remember how that all played out (with the charges, I know he left the program).  I was curious if most were happy he is now a Super Bowl champion or if there is a general indifference towards it?

Either way I’m glad Andy Reid finally won one.

He's not even the worst person on the Chiefs...Tyreek Hill is celebrated and everybody forgets his issues. It's the NFL, these players can and do get away with a lot.

Tyreek Hill didn't dispute the accusation that he punches his 3 year old in the chest. I believe he ended up responding to his ex with "you should be terrified of me too, bitch" instead of disputing that accusation. His son was removed from his custody because he's a complete piece of shit.

Don't forget Terrell Suggs. Another great dude on the Chiefs. Beat his fiance, held her down on the ground, and threatened to pour bleach down her throat. Good thing he also flung bleach on his child during that fine moment of his life.

I think everyone can have redemption.  I have no idea what kind of man Frank is today.  Hopefully he has changed and learned a lesson from some atrocious behavior.

It is kind of a bummer that 2 of the best Michigan players in the NFL...Lewan and Clark...have the reputation of being massive DB's.

Two things:

a. Tom Brady still exists.
2. Star players often get reputations for being massive DB's. The more publicity you get, the more opportunities there are for people to tear you down. There are certainly numerous exceptions (Pat Mahomes, Drew Brees, J.J. Watt, etc.), but most people who make a lot of money or achieve a certain status have a group of people thinking they're assholes.
d. Chad Henne is a Super Bowl-winning QB.

I think there is a massive difference between:

A. "You are a massive DB because you make a lot of money and I am jealous and therefore looking for reasons for you to be a DB."

B. "You abuse women, are a horrible teammate, and labeled a jackass bully by multiple Wolverines"

Both Frank and Taylor are the second option.

Also, Henne isn't  a "Super Bowl Winning QB".  Mahomes is a "Super Bowl Winning QB".  Henne happens to be a backup QB on a team that won the Super Bowl.  That is also a massive difference.

Seriously. Somehow in the NCAA it goes:

weed > taking "loans" > domestic abuse (during season) > punching dudes in the nuts > domestic abuse (during offseason)

And I love it how if your domestic abuse/DUI/felony occurs before the summer, you're given enough time to redeem yourself before missing the first series of the first game against Louisiana Eastern Tech State A&M U.

The chiefs are kind of the poster child for winning erases all ills. That team had a lot of guys with issues they just ignored to win and they were still the fun 'underdog' story everyone rooted for because it had been so long since they won a superbowl.

Its pretty gross.

That was the play of the game and really what turned the game around in my opinion. He was destroyed on that play and is what led to that huge comeback. Getting beat couldn’t have happened to a better player either. Sherman publicly talks shit far too much.

I don't get the love affair of Sherman either.  To his credit he was very good in what he did with zone and man zone concepts.  And he was solid against some big receivers in man coverage.  But the weaker member and fortunate to play with the Legion of Boom and a great defense.  Smart enough to find his niche and play in it.  But overall far better players at the same position all over the league.

Its pretty sad that people have more of a problem with Sherman speaking his mind and talking trash on the field than a different team with multiple abusers playing.

In the NFL its better to punch a woman then speak your mind if you want to keep your job. That is pretty fucked.

I don't really care what Michigan players do in the NFL. Frank Clark winning a Super Bowl doesn't make me feel any better that Michigan hasn't beaten OSU since, like, the Reagan administration.
