Four Questions For You - Deep Psychoanalysis

Submitted by XM - Mt 1822 on February 28th, 2024 at 9:29 PM

Mates,

OT season is basically here.  Hockey is okay, kinda, we'll see this weekend.  Basketball is to disappointment as a galactic black hole is to the concept of a 'vacuum'.   Thus it is time for the next in the series of very serious, very scientific questions that you need to answer in order that we continue with our psychological profiling of U of M fans.   Data will be collated, analyzed, deduced, reduced, put in a centrifuge and spun up to see what results we get.  The questions are as follows:

1.  What is your favorite James Bond movie?

2.  Who (or what) is your favorite Super Hero?  You are not restricted by era or medium - can be as old as the original Superman, can be as new as any of the Marvel/DC heroes or anything else.  If not a well-known one, post a picture and description.

3.  Related to question 2, above, who (or what) is your favorite villain?

4.  True or False:  The hokey-pokey is what its all about.   For extra credit, explain your answer

I liked the older James Bond movies when I was younger, but they are cheesy now. The newer ones have the same script, but have a more “wow factor.

National Champs is a great feeling!

Once my wife--a literary critic with three books and a PhD--explained that the Bond movies were a compensatory ritual for Britain's loss of empire, with a good-looking white fella kicking the behinds of people from pretty much everywhere else in the world, it kinda made sense. But the movies. . . in the end I'm not sure that they're up to much.

P.S. Sean Connery by a landslide.

I’m a James Bond aficionado. I’ve seen every movie many times, and am pretty good with James Bind trivia. With that, I always thought that Roger Moore was the best James Bond (I know, crazy). No one said the words “Bond, James Bond” better than Roger Moore. I never really liked Daniel Craig as Bond, but his take was probably closest to what the books depicted.  Sean Connery was a good Bond, I just found him too milquetoast.

Now, just go ahead and neg me.

The guy who wrote them, Ian Fleming, was engaged in British Naval intelligence during WWII. Maybe explains POV of the stories. He wrote a dozen books and more short stories starting in 1953. All of the books showcase the era and Jamaican settings where Fleming's fictional James Bond thrived from the fifties to mid-sixties in print and film.

From Goldfinger, Dr. No, Thunderball (personal favorite because of Ursula Andres) Casino Royale (multiple versions), the stories always revealed cool spy gadgets, cars, techniques and narcissistic fascist villains. Not too far removed from today's politics.

Of course, none of the recent Bond films contain the same wit and best original actor who made the series worth repeat watching: Sean Connery.

1. Die another day- the story of Ryan days repeated failures against Michigan

2. Jim harbaugh from the above

3. Ryan day as a dancing penguin

4. Ryan day sucks

1. Skyfall.  (I own every Bond movie, so I’m not some Johnny-come-lately who’s only seen the recents.  I know my Bond, and Skyfall is my favorite.)

2. Frank Drebin, Police Squad.  (Not looking forward to the Liam Neeson remake.

3. Mangos.  I’m allergic to them, so they are my villain, … but DAMN they’re tasty!

4. Yes, but only if it’s the Jim Breuer AC/DC version.

1.  Never made it through an entire film.  Always get bored by the predictability.

2. Probably The Incredible Hulk from the 80s TV show.  I like my heroes broken.

3. Cesar Romero’s Joker.  I like my villains broken and insane.

4. No.  The “that’s what it’s all about” is saying shaking your legs is the point of the dance.  If I had to point to one thing being ‘the’ thing that it’s all about, I’d say it’s probably the changing of the seasons in the Midwest.  There is nothing quite like that first cold morning in the fall when the leaves are changing.

1. I don't like Bond movies

2. I don't like superhero movies

3. See #2

4. What it's all about: Football is a religion and Saturday is the holy day of obligation. (IYKYK)

1. Skyfall. Feels like a better fit for our current times, plus Javier Bardem is a supreme villain.

2. Rick from Rick and Morty. Back to the Future is very dated, so like #1, Rick and Morty seem more relevant.

3. Heath Ledger as the Joker. Again, modern times.

4. No fucking way. The universe is far too vast to be explained by the Hokey Pokey.

Go Blue, f**k the Bucks.

  1. Octopussy or No Time to Die. As an fyi, I thought Daniel Craig was a bad James Bond, but No Time to Die was a fantastic way to end his tenure as James Bond.
  2. I’ve always had a soft spot for the Hulk
  3. Thanos. Simply because I think he was right. Some days I look at this world and how bad it is and how we hate each other, and wish I could just snap my fingers and get rid of half of it.
  4. See my answer to #3 above

1) Overall, Never Say Never Again.

2) Spiderman.  My Grandpa got me an origin story novel/compilation in the early 80s.  I was hooked.

3) Doctor Octopus, see #2

4) Love is what it's all about, and it's turtles all the way down.

1)To begin with, I've only seen about half of the 007 movies.  And most of those were the ones from back in the 60s and 70s. For no real reason other than 'Pussy Galore', I'll go with Goldfinger over my #2 choice The Spy Who Loved Me and the beloved villain 'Jaws'.

2) My favorite comic book superheroes were Spidey and Alfred E Neuman. Mostly because I rarely bought anything other than Spiderman comic books and Mad Magazine. Honorable mention to the real Superman, George Reeves.

3)Jaws

4) the hokey pokey? Hell no.

Michigan Football is what it's all about.  This isn't 'ShakeItAllABlog', is it?

Interesting Bond fact. During the closing credits of the Spy Who Loved Me, it mentioned that Bond would be back in For Your Eyes Only. However, Star Wars was all the rage at that time so they quickly green lit Moonraker to cash in on it. The Moonraker script was basically the same as the Spy Who Loved Me, except in the sky. They even brought back Jaws!

Goldfinger

Nightcrawler

Hans Gruber

True. Schrödinger proved the left leg can be both in and out simultaneously and thus the Hokey Pokey is about all of existence.

1. Casino Royale (I've seen them all and like Daniel Craig as Bond)

2. Mr. Incredible from "The Incredibles."

3. Darth Vader (I know, easy, but he's still iconic after almost 50 years)

4. Nyet to the hokey pokey.
