Football spring practice will start Monday...
...per the Freep. This is about a month earlier than past years. They will have the standard 15 practices with no word on a spring game yet.
I wonder if the February start is to work in the new schemes early--get the basic installations done and then let the players soak up the playbook the rest of the spring into the summer. Let the new coaches mark their respective territories early.

Holy crap! That was a surprise!
Posbang???

After shoveling 10 inches of snow, all I can say is that they are lucky that they have a nice, heated indoor facility. Back in the day ...

Back in the day ...
Dad?
February 16th, 2021 at 7:58 PM ^
Yeah...and I am really sore but proud of being able to hit it for hours but now the snow is having it's revenge on my bones. Old age is hell!
February 16th, 2021 at 8:09 PM ^
Between my corner lot, my elderly neighbors next door, and the steps and back walkways for our two properties, I shoveled about 1000 cubic feet of snow. At 7 lbs per cubic foot for the light, fluffy stuff I was shoveling, that comes to 3.5 tons. Naproxen will be my friend. Plus some scotch.
February 16th, 2021 at 8:29 PM ^
I always assumed you were elderly? JK
February 16th, 2021 at 10:38 PM ^
What age do you consider elderly? I think many of us on this board can still shovel a lot of snow but can also get senior discounts for those over 55.

I thought I remember him mentioning attending UM in the late 60s/70s. Anyways, was just intended as some light hearted ribbing. No offense intended, and apologies if offense was taken.
February 17th, 2021 at 11:00 AM ^
I am elderly—just had my 68th. And not offended in the slightest—my body tells me I'm an old fuck, and I think it's correct.
My neighbors are in their late 70s/early 80s and in far worse shape.
February 17th, 2021 at 11:38 AM ^
whoa, whoa, whoa, hold up here. don is like 2,000 years old - look at his avatar. he used to rub elbows with pharaohs back in the day. heck, he remembers when moving to a better place meant winning a battle with a neighboring people-group and getting a bigger cave with better ventilation for the cook fire. his childhood drawings were on cave walls. 68 yrs old. pfff.
February 16th, 2021 at 8:34 PM ^
I will have a scotch and Naproxen. Hold the Naproxen.
February 16th, 2021 at 9:19 PM ^
I never used to get sore from shoveling! Then I started to get sore from shoveling! Now I get sore from snow blowing....it sucks getting old!
February 17th, 2021 at 4:56 AM ^
I've reached the age where I get sore from jumping to conclusions.
February 17th, 2021 at 8:02 AM ^
Sometimes I get sore when I think about snowblowing.
February 16th, 2021 at 9:40 PM ^
Right there with you, Don. Also roof raked the sun room. On my third pour of bourbon (1792 small batch).
February 16th, 2021 at 9:43 PM ^
My eyes were watering a little, and I read 'roof naked the sun room.' Was thinking, 'hope he was wat least wearing some boots and a nice scarf!'
February 17th, 2021 at 8:05 AM ^
somewhere between 40 and 45...... everything starts to change
February 17th, 2021 at 8:50 AM ^
It starts changing at about 19. You just don't notice for several years.
February 16th, 2021 at 7:03 PM ^
We can has an actual game with two distinct teams? With four quarters, four downs, and a score?
February 16th, 2021 at 7:52 PM ^
I’d put the probability of them having a real game this year at .00764%
February 16th, 2021 at 8:03 PM ^
62.49% of all statistics are made up!
February 17th, 2021 at 7:50 AM ^
Unfortunately, only 23.56% of people know that.
February 16th, 2021 at 7:04 PM ^
Is the NCAA okay with this?

February 16th, 2021 at 7:05 PM ^
First day drills will include running 40’s in snowshoes. Teaches you to keep your knees high.
February 16th, 2021 at 7:07 PM ^
Excited to hear the J.J. rumblings...
February 16th, 2021 at 7:44 PM ^
Please no player hype at all, I’m so sick of hearing hype to be let down. Go back to the submarine.
February 16th, 2021 at 7:54 PM ^
Joe Milton looks amazing. Christian Turner will be all B10. Erick All will be the greatest TE Michigan has ever had. Charbonnet is looking a bit special.
There you go. I just got all the “hype” out of the way for you.
February 16th, 2021 at 8:01 PM ^
Zach Carpenter is supposed to be pretty good, too
February 16th, 2021 at 8:04 PM ^
Well, at least half of those guys are still on the team. I’ll allow it
February 16th, 2021 at 9:15 PM ^
I will say the hype every year is immense. Then the team generally has huge holes and all the hype just makes people angry because it was obviously false. We hear how good the defense is and it's a shit show. We hear how the defense is getting pushed by the offense, but it's just as bad.
Harbaugh just needs to get his shirt together or he needs to move on. No cohesion, no fire, no drive, no organization, no hurry when in a two minute offense... Just a shitshow of a team, stomping on the body bags and losing to any team with a pulse.
February 16th, 2021 at 7:08 PM ^
Maybe a result of no bowl game? The sooner they can start planning for next season the better. They certainly need all the time they can get.
February 16th, 2021 at 7:35 PM ^
Get the taste of last season's debacle out of their mouths early.
February 16th, 2021 at 8:04 PM ^
They only get so many practices, so when they start and end doesn't really matter.
February 16th, 2021 at 10:11 PM ^
It's a smart move. I'm glad to hear they're ready to go. You get the practices in when you can. Why wait for another possible shutdown? There's also hope that the dead period for recruiting will finally end in April.
February 17th, 2021 at 6:24 AM ^
More likely a result of CoVid. You have to get all of your practices in by a specific date, so starting earlier allows you to spread those practices out and reschedule some if you need to. While also installing more cautious CoVid protocols in between practices (testing and results between each practice instead of testing, practice 2-3 times and then getting results for example)
Waiting last minute and trying to get all of your practices in won’t work out well if there’s an outbreak on the team or if athletics are shut down again.
February 17th, 2021 at 1:33 PM ^
My thought is with all of the uncertainty/possibility of future shutdowns or restrictions they said, "hey, we're good to go right now so let's not waste time." Taking nothing for granted. Smart.
February 16th, 2021 at 7:16 PM ^
After that disgusting 2020 season this team needs all the practice they can get. But with a fan base that doesn’t hold their head coach accountable it doesn’t really matter. Harbaugh can go 1-11 in 2021 and fans would still defend him. I’m done arguing with the lemmings. This is why I’m focused on basketball until august 28. Don’t wanna ruin the sweet success with bitter news. BEAT RUTGERS!
February 16th, 2021 at 7:18 PM ^
i am so sure you would've been on the fire beilein train
February 16th, 2021 at 8:37 PM ^
Ive been the biggest John Beilein defender ever since he took us to the tournament in 08-09. The fact that your comparing Beileins situation with Harbaughs shows me how little you know about either sport.
February 16th, 2021 at 8:39 PM ^
you're*
February 17th, 2021 at 11:31 AM ^
So Bielein takes over a mediocre program, has two losing seasons in his first three years but because he took the program to the top 32 in year 2, you staunchly defend, even through a 16-16 season?
Comparatively, Harbaugh takes over a program in a nose dive, immediately turns it around with double digit wins and gets them in the top 10 in year two, but he can't get one year during a pandemic?
F'n Precious!
February 16th, 2021 at 7:19 PM ^
Does this mean we get 6 months without you commenting on the football team? Do you promise? Pretty please with a cherry on top.
February 16th, 2021 at 7:19 PM ^
- insufferable
February 16th, 2021 at 7:20 PM ^
Oh. The fan base is why Jim Harbaugh is still the head football coach at Michigan. Got it.
February 16th, 2021 at 7:39 PM ^
Does this mean we pay his salary? Shoot, I think I started a rabbit hole....
February 16th, 2021 at 8:38 PM ^
The fanbase has a bigger impact on the athletic department coaching decision than you think.
February 17th, 2021 at 12:37 PM ^
Just curious,
a) how do you measure the level of fanbase impact?
b) how much impact does the fanbase have and
c) what level of impact do you think k1400 thinks they have?
Sorry, I am an engineer and I find it rude to assume what someone else thinks
