Flowers Update
I guess you can chalk this up as a win for MGoBlog; but its not necessarily good news for Michigan.
Earlier today there was a bit of a dispute as TomVH told us things weren't looking good for Hakeem Flowers, whilst the guys at scout.com were very hopeful on UM's chances.
Well it now appears Michigan has stopped recruiting Flowers; I guess Hoke doesn't think they need a receiver in this class. Either that or he's got someone else lined up.
Anyway, for the guy who asked whether he should buy a rivals or scout account on the board earlier, I hope this answers your question.

I'm so confused as to who is who now in this topic. From what I've seen, it seemed like you could have said that about both players.
I can't remember the last time Michigan had a class with no WRs. I feel like we're recruiting a crapload of DBs and running the serious risk of kids transferring once they see the depth charts.
Maybe I'm still having a Lucien hangover. I miss having him in this recruiting class more than Dee.

That wasted redshirt on Stokes his freshman year hurts.
January 22nd, 2011 at 11:54 PM ^
I realize it's pretty unusual, but would it be insane for Stokes to redshirt this year? He's obviously going to be behind Stonum, Hemingway, Odoms, and Roundtree and potentially Grady and Jackson. It would seem like it would be in his best interest to sit this year out and have two seasons with a bit more manageable depth chart. Wasting him in '09 really is too bad.

Where's the talent in the frosh/soph class? Except for Je'Ron, we haven't really recruited any top notch talent at the WR position. I heard Jerald Robinson was decent, but everyone else wasn't coveted by really anyone.
January 22nd, 2011 at 11:33 PM ^
First off, guys can develop.
Second off, Baquer Sayed is awesome, be patient, he'll be a player.
Third off, there's enough talent in the WR corps for 2011 and 2012. Hoke can bring in 2 solid recruits in the 2012 class and counteract any concern you have about the 2013 WR corps.
January 23rd, 2011 at 12:08 AM ^
The Baquer Sayed I know of is slow (4.8 40) and lazy. Description his brother gave me of him...hence him being a walkon
January 23rd, 2011 at 1:29 PM ^
You seem very high on Sayed but I don't hear others highlighting him (even some being jerks about it like below). What are you basing your opinion on?
January 23rd, 2011 at 2:57 PM ^
I smply gave the exact description Baquer's older brother gave me of him. I grew friends with an older brother of his and known his family for about 15 years. Everyone is proud of the kid for making the team..but he is what he is. He will catch anything thrown in the vacinity of him..but slow and has been described as lazy.

I think this really speaks volumes on the interest we are receiving. A week ago everyone was "OMG we have 7 commits!", now it appears the staff is picking and choosing a little. I will trust them that they understand what they need.
January 22nd, 2011 at 11:23 PM ^
We have a glut of RB's and WR's. Now if only we could get some DT's.
January 22nd, 2011 at 11:28 PM ^
You typed the words right out of my hands. DEFENSE please!
January 23rd, 2011 at 12:56 AM ^
We have many RB's, but all but a couple are injury prone or not going to work in the new system.
I wouldn't be surprised if we see a guy like Vincent Smith looking to transfer after Spring, once he sees his place on the depth chart.
January 22nd, 2011 at 11:26 PM ^
looking at the depth chart come 2012:
seniors - Roundtree (RS), Stokes (would of liked a redshirt from him, but oh well), T. Robinson
juniors - Miller, Dileo, Gallon, Jackson,
soph - Williamson (RS), J. Robinson (RS)
is this correct? Assuming no transfers, which is likely, epsecially with the slot guys (Gallon, T. Robinson, Dileo).
edit: someone basically already did this above me.
January 22nd, 2011 at 11:32 PM ^
This does not cause me undue discomfort.
January 22nd, 2011 at 11:26 PM ^
No receiver, No Qb. Interesting. Guess all about the defensive side of the ball.
January 22nd, 2011 at 11:37 PM ^
RichRod's first class, only focusing all on defense instead of offense. We currently have 2 offensive commits? Defense was definitely weak, but this seems overkill in the same vein of RR going for offense.
January 22nd, 2011 at 11:48 PM ^
We have more than 2 O commits only 1 in a skill position. Miller, Posada, and Hayes. Hietzman could be either TE or DE.
January 22nd, 2011 at 11:48 PM ^
a good defense keeps you in nearly every game, whereas a good offense does not. Just sayin.
January 22nd, 2011 at 11:28 PM ^
It's probably best to stop worrying and let the Hoke and his staff do THEIR JOB. I am going to guess they know a bit more about what they need to do than many of the arm chair gurus on here.
January 22nd, 2011 at 11:39 PM ^
But I'm not criticizing Hoke. Like I keep saying, I'm willing to give Hoke the benefit of the doubt. It's just a very confusing situation that I don't understand
January 22nd, 2011 at 11:29 PM ^
He's still not committed...
January 22nd, 2011 at 11:30 PM ^
Grade issue. Going to JUCO.
January 22nd, 2011 at 11:39 PM ^
Grand Rapids Community College IIRC.
January 22nd, 2011 at 11:32 PM ^
No offer from SCar or Clemson speaks volumes. Heard some of hose offers he claims are not legit and he is not as tall and clearly not s fast as he reports. Red Flag was what I heard about his recuitment.
January 23rd, 2011 at 10:34 AM ^
Actually he ran a pretty good time at the US Army All American Combine, I highly doubt coaches are going just on "how fast he reports he is"
January 22nd, 2011 at 11:32 PM ^
Conway to Community College, then try to re-enroll.
January 22nd, 2011 at 11:33 PM ^
I know he's bigger in size, but how does he compare to the Baldwin kid (from Pitt that we recruited too)?? That kid was supposed to be a TE all along, and turned into a BEAST of a WR for them. Couldn't Ricardo be THAT kind of guy? Feedback?
January 22nd, 2011 at 11:38 PM ^
Ricardo is not as good as Baldwin
January 22nd, 2011 at 11:33 PM ^
What the hell? Half the WRs on the roster are slot guys and Hoke turns away 2 4* WRs (depending on the site)? I don't understand this one...

January 22nd, 2011 at 11:34 PM ^
I guess I'd take Lucien but I don't get what the hype is about him; I'd rather take Flowers anyday.
For some reason, people seem obsessed with the "new recruit that appears out of nowhere" i.e. Lucien.
Nothing against the kid but geez, people are praising him just because he shows late interest. I'd rather take a kid who has been interested in us all the way along. Rodriguez or no Rodriguez.
January 22nd, 2011 at 11:57 PM ^
Nov 19, 2010 ... Michigan had been in contact with WR Devin Lucien (6'1", 190 lbs, 4 Star) from Encino, California for awhile. He was offered today.

Don't often see someone use the word 'whilst'. Are you English?
January 22nd, 2011 at 11:38 PM ^
He is
January 23rd, 2011 at 2:03 AM ^
No...he's just in the show.
January 23rd, 2011 at 2:04 AM ^
He's also from the early 17th century. And Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are dead.
January 22nd, 2011 at 11:42 PM ^
he is good, real good.
January 22nd, 2011 at 11:53 PM ^
As a point of comparison, here is the wide receiver corps in 2007 for Michigan:
Of that list, how many were scholarship WRs? I don't believe more than 8 of them were signed to LOIs. Having 7-8 scholarship WRs is pretty normal for the pro-style, IME.
January 22nd, 2011 at 11:58 PM ^
Who in the world is Wincey Courtbooth, and why didn't he get to play more?
January 23rd, 2011 at 12:24 AM ^
Isn't that the truth? The names in the 2007 receiving corps were just epic.
January 23rd, 2011 at 1:04 AM ^
I don't believe I've heard the name "Wincey Courtbooth" a single time.
January 23rd, 2011 at 2:02 AM ^
That's largely my point. Out of those 2007 wideouts, how many ever really made their mark at Michigan over their entire careers? With that in mind, there will now be even more, based on the numbers, that do not "pan out" at MICH.
January 23rd, 2011 at 11:21 AM ^
I completely agree, and think we already have too many WR's on the team. Although it was only three years ago, I think people here have forgotten how WR's are used in the pro style offense. In a couple years wheh the roster is retooled, we'll only play 3-4 WR's in any given year. The others will never set foot on the field.
January 23rd, 2011 at 12:09 AM ^
is that some of Flowers offers may be bogus. Word is that none of the in state schools offered and some of the "scouts" say he is not really that good. Not my opinion just passing info on as possible rationale for letting him go. I think Michigan pulled that schollie.
January 23rd, 2011 at 12:12 AM ^
Well, we got a kicker today, that fills that void. We will see what happens tomorrow Sunday. OUT!
January 23rd, 2011 at 12:25 AM ^
January 23rd, 2011 at 12:15 AM ^
For gods sakes no more WR we need DT and OL please! Just a DT now does anyone remember our Defense? Please give us a big DT.
January 23rd, 2011 at 12:51 AM ^
diamonds in the rough...or maybe shiny plastic...Willie Beavers just took an official to Illinois. Can Funk or Hoke make a B1G lineman out of Beavers? That is where we need to be looking.
There are relatively few 270+ guys out there who can play in D-1. Find the projects and make the offers.
