I agree with what Brian said on the radio show. If this is indeed the beginning of Urban's unraveling at OSU, them losing to MSU was totally worth it.
November 24th, 2015 at 5:56 PM ^
Not going to happen. It's nice to day dream though.
November 24th, 2015 at 6:06 PM ^
Keep telling yourself that.

He's right. No way in hell a guy who lost four (!) games in four years is on the hot seat.

Who said anything about a hot seat?

November 24th, 2015 at 7:26 PM ^
I don't recall him being on the hot seat at Florida either.
November 24th, 2015 at 10:58 PM ^
Exactly.
November 25th, 2015 at 12:02 AM ^
Meyer doesn't need to be on a "hot seat." He manages to develop "health problems" on his own.
November 24th, 2015 at 6:22 PM ^
Have you ever heard of a player talking the way Elliott did when the season isn't even over yet?
November 24th, 2015 at 6:49 PM ^
but I have also never seen a coach as detached and frankly disinterested as Meyer was during that entire game so I was almost assuming something was up by the time Elliott spoke out.
November 24th, 2015 at 6:53 PM ^
He's looked like that several times on the sidelines this year. I honestly wouldn't be surprised if he moves on sooner rather than later. I think he has a pretty short shelf life as a coach at each stop.
November 24th, 2015 at 6:29 PM ^
But last week he was #128 on this list, look where he is this week:
http://www.coacheshotseat.com/CoachesHotSeatRanking.htm
I'll bet a loss on Saturday puts him in the 90's...
November 24th, 2015 at 6:17 PM ^
whether or not OSU won or lost this weekend. The loss just exposed it for us to see; it was there irregardless of the MSU/OSU outcome.
November 24th, 2015 at 6:22 PM ^
Is nothing if they beat Michigan this weekend. If we win, they're going to consider this year a complete failure.
November 24th, 2015 at 11:27 PM ^
It's one loss. How could this be characterized as an unraveling? 4 losses in what 3 years? What other evidence is there? An emotional, angry 20 year old RB who spoke out of turn right after the game?
November 24th, 2015 at 5:55 PM ^
But Pawwwwwlll, how does this affect Alabama? I'll hang up and listen.
PS I think it's going to take more than this for Pope Urban to come unraveled.
November 24th, 2015 at 5:59 PM ^
Finebaum does not come close to being the unbiased all-knowing oracle of college football. Sad that espn gives so many "journalists" a platform to be held out as experts.
November 24th, 2015 at 6:10 PM ^
that even my non-sports-fan wife gets a kick out of.
Once you realize he is there to be a buffoon, it's all much easier to take.
November 24th, 2015 at 6:18 PM ^
I agree with you. I use to listen to him for the comedic value, but some of his callers (like "i-man") just drove me nuts.
November 24th, 2015 at 6:12 PM ^
That unraveling is more like a slow burn. Just sit back and enjoy the show.
It's happening.
November 24th, 2015 at 5:54 PM ^
John Cooper, come on down!!!!
I can hope.
November 24th, 2015 at 5:54 PM ^
I can't see his name without hearing "But Pawwlllll!!!!" screaming in my brain.
He's probably right, but this isn't something people didn't expect. Meyer doesn't stick around places because, I assume, he wears out his welcome and the lack of discipline catches up to him.
November 24th, 2015 at 6:47 PM ^
I don't think it is Urban so much wearing out his welcome- the fans and schools love the winning part- but the fact that his "turn it up to 11", "in your face", encyclopedia of motivational and pyschological tricks act is great for a couple of years, but probably wears on players after a while. The players also love to see the results on the field, but maybe it start to sound hollow, especially when the talk is revealed to be calculating and a little empty. It is the contradction of wanting to encourage and coddle superior talent, while trying to sound like a hard ass discliplinarian, eventually comes off as phoney.
No doubt- he is a brilliant coach, and there might be no better coach in the short-term of getting players to buy in, get results. But he always moves on to the next place willing to sell their soul to the devil. Bain Capital somehow comes to mind,

Long enough to have a losing record against us.
November 24th, 2015 at 8:45 PM ^
This is why I dont want Mork leaving MSU

One loss for osu and everyone loses their minds
November 24th, 2015 at 5:58 PM ^
Their minds were already lost in Columbus
November 24th, 2015 at 6:12 PM ^
It's the infighting that we all suspected would be there with such a sleaze at the top.
November 24th, 2015 at 6:21 PM ^
Seriously. As much as I hate it, URBZ has 1 conf loss in 4 yrs. Of course he's a snake but hardly tim to pull the fire alarm! I'm with Mad Hatter - I would love for him to stick around so Harbaugh can wage battle with him a dozen times.
November 24th, 2015 at 11:40 PM ^
Sort of sounds like how ppl were freaking out about Alabama earlier this year, thinking it was all going to crash down on Saban and they were going to be an afterthought.

OSU is falling down a dark hole.
Soon urban will be leaving on medical leave.
Hope you enjoyed it while it lasted OSU.

Get a grip. It's one loss to a good team.
November 24th, 2015 at 5:59 PM ^
The guy loses his first regular season conference game and he's unraveling?! I hate OSU as much as the next guy, but that's just fucking stupid.
November 24th, 2015 at 6:02 PM ^
A lot of wishful thinking going around about Meyer.
November 24th, 2015 at 6:05 PM ^
rabble! rabble!
November 24th, 2015 at 7:48 PM ^
I understand that this is the first time an Urban meyer coached team scored this few points in his career (MSU). There's that and I believe the OP is saying he knows no one gets fired for losing one game. Also he believes he has seen Urban uninterested in his games recently, have you seen the emotion that poured out of him last year. So he (OP) may be onto something. I also don't give a shit whether Urban comes or goes over there at OSU because we are being coached by this guy you may heard of, Jim Harbaugh. HAIL!
November 24th, 2015 at 6:08 PM ^
But what I'd point out is that it isn't just about the loss. The loss was just a catalyst and two star players' announcements and reactions. As Finebaum points out, a lot of this was put in motion earlier in the year with the way the QB situation was handled. Then the dui, then the msu game, then Elliot... And I'm sure there's a few other things I'm missing...
November 24th, 2015 at 6:14 PM ^
The Harbaugh era isn't going to go by without its own share of controversies and issues that are just going to come up when you're trying to keep harmony amongst 90 ultra-competitive 18-22 year old football players.
November 24th, 2015 at 6:33 PM ^
unfortunately true. its difficult to keep diverse groups of 18-22 year old student athletes on point and consistently producing while striving for ultimate goals over several consecutive years - a few blips are inevitable. even the best / most successful struggle at times. people toss around the terms elite, dynasty, etc way too easily - programs like ucla of the 60s-70s (for example) dont come around too often
November 24th, 2015 at 6:37 PM ^
To be fair, Elliott was crying pregame and most saw that as a sign he knew this was his last home game.
I mean Jones is Jones - I dont see that as a big deal, he looked to be on his way out. School was in the way for other pursuits.
More harsh were the post game comments by Elliott. While accurate you dont say that out loud. The 2 guys leaving is not a big deal as they seemed destined anyhow, although the timing of the announcement was lame.
November 24th, 2015 at 11:33 PM ^
This is as dumb as 9/11 truthers. Connect the dots and see what you want to see.
November 24th, 2015 at 6:10 PM ^
He just came off an ass-kicking national championship, he lost his first regular season conference game in 4 years by three points to a top 10 team, a few teenagers mouth off on Twitter, and the program is falling apart? Seriously?
If that's what falling apart looks like, I'll take a double dose for our program.
November 24th, 2015 at 6:44 PM ^
people are crazy. over react much? if they win this weekend no one will remember or care what happened this past weekend.
November 24th, 2015 at 6:01 PM ^
Meyer just lost his 4th game in 4 years. Let's retain some perspective.
November 24th, 2015 at 6:27 PM ^
in Florida. He's a great coach, in no possible way on the hot seat, but people wonder what will happen when they look at his history. How does he handle discord and disappointment?
November 24th, 2015 at 7:24 PM ^
but..small sample size.
we will see, but I think there's a lot of wishful thinking. I hope he stays a long time, and Harbaugh led Michigan owns him for years to come, regardless of any other successes.
November 24th, 2015 at 6:10 PM ^
UFM, while he coaches the ENEMY, is a good friggin coach...ELITE good. The guy has done and won alot of shit in his time. Nobody is perfect and I'm glad when bucnuts lose but 1 loss out of how many games? does not an implosion make...
November 24th, 2015 at 6:13 PM ^
All I care about is ending this nightmare run they have had against us. Everytime OSU has had "problems" they turn around and win 10+ games a year.
