Anyone voting OSU above us is suffering from the same 1997 recency bias that propelled Nebraska, except worse.  An 11-2, non-conference champ, who happened to give UGA a good game in their finale.  The same team that, in their last 5 weeks of conference play was tied with NW, trailing PSU and in a dogfight with Maryland, before having their asses handed to them in a game they'd been talking sh*t about for 362 days. They give UGA a good game, and suddenly they're #2, over a 13-1 team that crushed them at home.  Ridiculous bias, and a classic example of voting based on the most recent game.

And how on Earth could Pat Fitzgerald vote like that?  I've lost all respect for the guy.  For any B1G coach to have so little respect for winning the B1G championship is pathetic. The dude himself won the B1G, and should revere how difficult that is.

Got to hand it to Saban too, votes himself #2.  I wonder how many other 11-2 teams he's voted #2.

People essentially are irrational.

Sorry this is a fact. You support Michigan football. Go sit in on Michigan professors lectures.

One of the things I like the most about UofM is how much of the faculty has resisted the last decade-plus of normalization of political insanity/extremism, however, the administration (the bane of faculty) has gone in the total opposite direction, they've fully embraced the political insanity.

Also, sadly, the coporatization is now at full flywheel, and intellectualism is not only a dirty word, but losing very badly (as oppose to corporations/greed who remain a dirty word, but are still winning mightily!)

The upside to the weird marriage of semi-professional sports coupled to instituitions of inquiry and all the $$$/PR that at stake, is that we'll soon get a BIGGER playoff, and though it's still also an arbitrary system of measurement, it is one that surely has less human "opinion" input, and more player/coaching error input (which is, you know, the game that is played on the field--i.e. win or go home, versus, win/lose/draw and then we'll decide where you rank afterwards)

I am sure you are much smarter than me but I can't be the only one who read your post who has no idea what you said.  I am mesmerized by it. I see you are very passionate about something. I just don't know what it is and I can't even venture a guess. This thread is about the final Coaches Poll.

Lol, well then I'm definitely not smarter, I'm getting roasted over here, yeah that's on me.

Also I'm screen-capping and printing this to hang at my desk as an editing reminder

What I meant to communicate is that I'm agreeing with the post I'm replying to, that he's right they are suffering from recency-bias (on of the biggest cognitive biases, and worth familiarizing oneself with)

And I'm trying to say I'm happy that we'll be getting an expanded playoff (though it will fundamentally change rivalries/tradition)

What I got distracted with was my own lamenting of the current facades of rationalism giving cover fire for what really amounts to "well I don't care about facts, as my opinion, feelings, and personal beliefs are more important than facts"

Jim probably was voting us #1 every week.

Coaches' poll official: "Now Coach Harbaugh, we've been over this before.  The rules state that the winner of the CFP must be #1 in the final poll.  No one else."

Harbaugh: "There's no way I'm not supporting my team."

Coaches' poll official: "Well, then, we're going to have to strip you of your ballot."

Harbaugh: "Well then."

I'm willing to bet that he won't vote because he doesn't want to 'diminish' another team.  Dude pretty much goes all in with the things he says and does, and he will not compare teams/players/programs/whatever because that necessarily diminishes one from the other.  I can see this as a reason he'd tell the Coaches Poll representative, politely, to go away.

Nick Saban and Dana Dimel are all sorts of crazy to me.  At least with Saban he knows it doesn't matter and had the humility to at least put Georgia #1.  But Dimel putting USC #8 and Utah #6, ahead of teams that beat them to end the year, is stupid, as is putting TCU #9.  Does he honestly believe that USC, a shitty defense held together with duct tape and a +20 TO margin, would even put up a fight against TCU?

Narduzzi, Stockstill and Anderson can all collectively suck my left nut.

And the number of coaches that ranked Ohio St ahead of Michigan is astonishing.  Those creeps are all heavily drugged up...or drunk.  Greg Schiano and Pat Fitzgerald are two of them.  We don't play NW next season unless it's the B1G CG.  But mark Sept. 23 down for Rutgers' visit to the Big House.  Schiano doing his part to heat up the rivalry.

Will Hall is a hero.

EDIT: I just noticed that Schiano ranked Michigan ahead of TCU.  OK, we'll only beat them by 24 instead of 40.

All I can figure is that some of those idiots thought the object of the exercise was to spell something--good job Narduzzi, I guess, you spelled G-O-A-T

There is a narrative out there that our victory over Ohio was a fluke.  That Ohio controlled the game except for a few lucky plays that went for big yardage.  They use the Georgia loss and our TCU loss as evidence.  The haters are eagerly willing to buy into it.

I know different because I was there and saw the looks on the faces of the Ohio fans after the game and have a game program given to me by a man who was too embarrassed to possess it.
