ESPN Fluff: something "different" about Harbaugh at Big Ten Media Days this year

Submitted by unWavering on

This is one of the fluffiest of fluff pieces, but ESPN's Brian Bennett is at the Big Ten Media Days, and has noted that there is "something different" about Harbaugh's demeanor at Big Ten Media Days this year.

At this same event last year, Harbaugh was evasive and even difficult at times during his interview sessions. He refused to give many specific answers to the media horde looking to lap up the story of his return to college football. On Monday, though, he was playful and animated, willing to talk at length about his team and other issues.

Money quote (emphasis mine):

"We have big hopes," Harbaugh said. "We've got big dreams. We've got lofty goals. And all those are achievable."

There are also a couple good tidbits from Jourdan Lewis.  It's pretty clear that Harbaugh has the team feeling confident going into this year, and they truly believe they can win it all.  Hopefully, that confidence translates to results.

Is Bennett reading into something that isn't there, or does Harbaugh feel like we have a shot to win it all this year?  Perhaps a bit of both.

So if I am tracking your perspective, we should not be discussing winning it all until we beat every team?  Then, and only then, we can have your permission to discuss winning it all? Okay.  I think I have it.

Here's the thing, we are fans with hopes and lofty goals ourselves.  We have trained since 1997 to be hopeful that our goal of our favorite team winning it all comes to fruition.  We have put in lots of effort, time, money and heart into this process.  Get the fuck out if you think we are not going all in at some point.  Now feels as close as we have been since the late 90's. Stop asking for rational fans.

Yes, quit crying out loud Salinger over enthusiasm for the upcoming season. The "we haven't beat....." is a tired Negative Nancy rote response.  Be cheerful that Coach Harbaugh is conveying an expectation of excellence and that he's enthused about it.

He definitely seems more loose. At the same time he's displaying a confident demeanor and fully expect never to hear something stupid like, "our goal is the B1G championship" from him.

There were so many unknowns in year one. I am sure he knows exactly what he has to work with. Lewis, Butt, and Darboh did a great job of descring Jim. Oh, and Harbaugh has confirmed that he will take a deep dive in the submarine again. Only coming up once or twice for the first two to three weeks of fall camp.

I've always wondered if the crew are strapped down inside when this happens? Not that it happens all the time but because it looks like it'd be one hell of a ride coming up like that. Guys be knocking heads at their launch stations!!

Nope, no straps.  The people driving wear seat belts, but that's all.  The rest of us just tried to find a place to sit, or something to hold onto, on the way up - usually with a 20-25° angle.  There was a momentary weightless feeling up in the bow section, when the bow stopped going up and started its decent back to the water, though.  That was fun...

Nicely done!

The Artic Ocean is a very cool place to go (no pun intended!).  It has lakes, rivers, streams, and shallow spots all over the ice cap surface.  And its quiet.  Very, very quiet.  Only noise is the wind, and the occasional cracking ice...

USS Michigan (SSGN-737) update: The crew of the USS Michigan have the flag deployed for Team 137 and JH and it should be delivered by the end of August. Just in time for the fiirst game. The crew will also be sending their Command ball cap, SSGN-737 unit patches (Dolphins), and Navy SEAL Special Warfare patches.

congress names all of the city/state/president ships. when they funded that class of ship you know there were some heavy hitters in congress from ohio.

We have the Gerald Ford class carriers debuting soon, and the Michigan has close ties with the university. The Navy loves engineers from U of M!!
