Well, this is overall bullshit. That being said, it'll make it that much funnier when they get their asses punked on their own field this year. 50-7 with Michigan going for 2 on their final TD of the 4th.

What a joke. I'd understand if he was actually injured two seasons, but this is MSU taking advantage of the NCAA. Way to go Sparty. Can't wait to kick your ass.

to game time played? Speculating a bit here, as I'm not completely sure of Ojemudia's specifics, but: -Davis completely out of any live games for two years -Didn't Ojemudia play in just enough games to go over the season limit one year to not be considered for additional eligibility? Also, MSU could have made the case that any scout team involvement was non- or reduced-contact with Davis contributing in a more schematic way?

I agree with you here. For a board full of UM grads, I'm surprised people think being named scout team player of the week a couple of times is strong evidence of not being injured. Just because he could probably walk and run doesn't mean he is healthy enough for game action. Added to your point that his scout team role could have been strictly non-contact, for us to jump to conclusions based on a couple sentences in his bio is incredibly premature. Unless someone on this board has access to his medical records, I don't think there is evidence to say he shouldn't get his 6th year.

Regardless, I doubt he makes much of an impact. That D needs help on the line and in the secondary, and Davis isn't going to help either of those groups.

1. Scout team can mean entirely different things to different coaches/teams/situations, so without being present during these stints for Davis, it bears little relevance. Davis might have been heavily involved in film analysis, walk-throughs, tutoring younger players, whatever....

2. What actually happened and what is reported could be very different things, so there isn't going to be any sort of smoking gun evidence that Davis was ever running full speed/full contact...if he indeed was.

3. We don't really know whether scout team participation at any level precludes additional eligibility, right?

Clear misapplication of the rule by the NCAA (as noted above, he was not a medical redshirt as a freshman if he was, you know, practicing in full pads every week).  But this speaks more about MSU's integrity than the NCAA's incompetence.

I don't know if we can get ahold of the application, but to the extent the application for the redshirt says he was a medical redshirt as a freshman, that's on MSU.  I'm inclined to blame the liar (MSU/Dantonio) rather than the dopes who don't expose the lie (i.e., the NCAA).

Not that the NCAA isn't a steaming pile of dog shit ... .

Ed Davis is a good player.  He's the type of guy who would have never ended up in EL had Michigan not bungled its transition.

That being said - 6 years in EL - ouch.

Gardner was only at Michigan for 5 years, and in his true freshman season, he played the minimum number of games (3), then was out the rest of the season with an injury. He was granted a medical redshirt year, enabling a 5th year.

Not sure how his situation compares to Ed Davis'....

who is connected with MSU program and while this is big news for MSU, there is belief that his knee is not 100%/What it was before injury... will be interested to see where and how much they play him

I think it's crazy that Davis got a 6th year, but I thought that a bunch of teams report a *wink-wink* injury to give guys a RS? It's even a practice used at Michigan, especially for younger players.

I've always been a witch.  I predicted this ten weeks ago.

What? You think the NCAA is going to pass up an opportunity to screw us? OK, that's a bit much, but I refuse to count on the NCAA to do anything right that benefits us.

Yup, Dantonio and Davis faked an injury.  GOD I can't believe you saw through the ruse.   We'll have to do better the next time.

I'll say one thing for sure - this is really registering on the 'ole UM anxiety barometer, though, ain't it?  It's almost as if you're maybe, kinda sorta worried you're going to walk home without Paul Bunyan...again!

Oh my, the soul searching that will surely follow when khaki jesus turns out to be more mortal than Lombardi himself.....

We all saw how both teams played. How the QBs played. How the DLs are. And we ALL know, deep down, both UM and Staee fans like, who is >90% certain to win this year.

All the rest is just hot air and false bluster until then. Yap away, it makes us chuckle. But--we're impressed you spelled everything right.

He just wanted to be like every other Staee student and stay in college for six years.
