The game could have existed, they just should have left it generic with no likenesses. Maybe I'm wrong, I don't know. I just think they should have bailed on the whole QB #16 (Michigan QB, 6'0" 190 lbs, with dreads, from Florida) thing the moment someone (I think it was Scott Frost) brought it up.

The NCAA had to realize this would eventually happen, don't you think? I personally can't speak to college athletics prior to 1990, but even Chris Weber saw the hypocrisy (Albomb [sic] interview in the Fab Five ESPN Special IIRC) twenty years ago.

I haven't made a determination on which side I fall. The players have a damn good argument, but I am tepid on the idea of the NCAA ceasing to exist, creating a "super conference" (even if Michigan is included).

I wonder if the "big football school" AD's are talking behind the scenes right now, preparing for the NCAA to dissolve...

I agree with what you are saying. I'm just saying that had they just left it generic (but fully customizable) then this probably isn't the issue it has grown into. But we wanted "as close to the real thing" and they were cocky enough to think that they had loop-holed their way to giving it to is at a tremendous profit. I mean, who did not think that they were putting the players in the game? Did anyone ever really believe that? Nope. But they were arrogant enough to think that it didn't matter. They were wrong.

People criticizing everything about college football and the NCAA is like the really in thing right now.  And then the same people watch the product and love it all day on Saturday.  Be careful what you wish for, or eventually you are going to be saying "wait, I didn't really mean those things, I was just saying."

And yes, the pay for play supporters have managed to frame an argument that makes Chris Webber look like a victim.  Wow.  Better retrace your steps.

Oh well. I guess I'm finally done spending money for a minorly changed game every few years.

Hopefully the Operation Sports guys (or someother group) keep the rosters going into the future. I have hope since people, as of last bball season, still are updating the rosters for NCAA Hoops 2k8.

I have to think that if they can work out a way to fairly compensate the players whose likeness they use that this could come back someday.  I think that day may be 5-10 years away though.

they didn't keep it generic in the first place and just keep beefing up the customization. Focus strictly on the guts and let the person playing it do the "branding."

An argument I made when things first started coming out about this. People like sticking it to the NCAA, but some of the ideas floating around could wind up making us all disappointed. Despite the general griping, I like the NCAA series and this is an unfortunate development.
