Dumbest statements by high profile coaches

Submitted by Wolfman on

Sure there have been many but in thinking about some of the dumbest statements I've heard from high profile coaches, three jump out at me right away.  They are:

1.  Brett, opening his mouth about SEC schedule and gettin his ass beat by Toledo then TT

2.  Rex Ryan, tugging on Superman's cape

3.  Dantonio, just when I was ready to acknowledge his success and thinking he was secure:
"They are selling hope. We are selling results."  I mean JH has no results to stand on.

I am certain you can think of many more. Would love to hear them.  These tree top the list so far, imo.

i generally don't mind your biased opinion -- but in this one:  Daryl stonum never came back.  Michael Floyd was one of the last players in NCAA to not miss any play time for a DUI.

It would be incredibly hypocritcal for me to say "he shouldn't have been drinking," but for a DUI?  You gotta sit at least one game, and I'm not talking about a spring game.

Floyd was "kicked off" the team until it was time to start getting him ready for the season opener. If you can't see the difference between the two then you're being obtuse. And plenty around here felt Stonum was getting a slap on the wrist and didn't deserve that much leniency. Floyd didn't even get that much.

James Franklin's misogynistic comments:

"I've been saying it for a long time, I will not hire an assistant coach until I've seen his wife. If she looks the part, and she's a D-I recruit, then you got a chance to get hired. That's part of the deal," Franklin said Wednesday on Nashville's 104.5 FM The Zone, according to coachingsearch.com.

FUCK penn state.

'Raped repeatedly' isn't remotely accurate to describe the 'constant harassment' that Katie Hnida faced by a handful of teammates that Gary Barnett did nothing to stop. Hnida's father is a well-known Doctor and was on TV at the time and no, his daughter was not 'repeatedly raped,' as you assert.

I am not sure why you replied in this manner to this comment.  The secondary poster indicated that the woman was not raped repeatedly but also  made it seem like she wasn't raped.  I just clarified.  Back to my other post, however, someone called out ND I was merely making sure that you pocketed your rocks while standing in your glass house.

Don't fucking think Harbaugh didn't hear Dantonio's statement. I expect the first time we beat them, Dantonio will regret that statement and that could Harbaugh's first "handshake" if you know what I mean....fuck state

Two weeks ago when Dantonio said in the Oregon post game that his game was the premier game that week in... The state of Michigan. We was more concerned with his game being more high profile than M, than realizing his game was supposed to be the premier one in the country. I have no respect for him

You hit the nail on the head. We'll be fine soon, instead of bitching about what Dantonio has said, his fall is coming. State is just upset that they will always be second fiddle to the importance of the programs as long as Michigan has a pulse. Coach Harbaugh has definitely made that pulse stronger!

Dantonio is entitled to his opinion, and he's definitely selling results at this point, but every program has to start with selling hope. He had to sell hope for 3-4 years before anyone took MSU seriously.

Wasn't offended by what he said, but everyone has to sell hope to start off with.

Well Jim Harbaugh did say last week that "UNLV is a really good team that will probably win a lot of games", which definitely isn't smart......

It also can't be dumb though bc HARBAUGH.

MSU owns the greatest inferiority complex in all of college football. Nay, all of sports of any kind. This is why they are funny even when they are winning. Hours and hours of laughter do they provide..

Pretty much any statement made by Charlie Weiss at Notre Dame. He talked some serious shit about Michigan and was handed several of NDs most humiliating, one sided beat downs in their history.
