And you think you're crowded at Michigan Stadium
IMPORTANT: Ondre Pipkins not involved.
Here's something we can all get behind.
"Don't stop your feet on contact!"
Newsflash, if we don't win Rose Bowl '13 we will have little choice but to lay the blame on Kate Upton. That is all!
not this year?
Cam made it an offer it couldn't refuse.
Spurrier smacks then across the face with his Gamecocks. I think he will too...watch.
I hope they knock the 20s and 50s out of Cam and them damn war eagles.
Denard heisman 2011
Endeavor to persevere...
Yes I know hi-jinx (high jinks) is not a word, but it looks good.
they are "diseased" gamecocks.
"This is Michigan fergodsakes."
Hunter Thompson. On second thought, load up on some acid and maybe so.
Regardless. He is a Michigan man, and even with a coaching switch, should it happen, any coach with a brain wants the ball in this dude's hands every snap.
As he progresses I would like to see Denard become more pass-first. He's got a good arm and as he settles down a bit his accuracy is going to get better. Vince Young was a very shoddy passer and in his last two years rarely had run-only plays and he fucking terrified me in the Rose Bowl and Texas (the next year) every time the ball was snapped. When your last resort as an offense is a dilithium 4.3 lunatic taking off with the ball in his hands and the opposing defense scattered all over the field, the other team has nothing. NOTHING!
"That's some catch, that Catch-22," he observed.
"It's the best there is," Doc Daneeka agreed.
Jim Harbaugh can turn Josh Johnson into an NFL QB out of the University of San Diego, I cant wait to see what he could do with Denard to improve his passing game!
Yeah he will be if RR is still coach. If its Jimbo, then I'm not too sure about Denard being anywhere near the top of the Heisman front-runner list.
I think he can suceed in any offense, Harbaugh's, RR's, the A-11, any of them. He is a tremendous athlete, and I see great things from him regardless of who our coach is.
Agreed. My point is that Denard is utilized to the fullest of his abilities in the offense that we currently have. I don't think Denard would be "as good" in a different system (i.e. Pryor at OSU).
This also comes to my point for keeping RR. We will have a better offense next year than we do this year if we keep him. I doubt that we would be a top 5 offense next year in a different system. Thats just my opinion though.
He wasn't utilized to the fullest of his abilities in the 2nd half against OSU. Maybe Harbaugh would find a way to use him without injuring his knee, shoulder, brain and fingers so that we can win the most important game of the year for once.
How would you have used him? I think utilizing him to his fullest abilities puts him in situations where he will get hit and possibly injured. That just comes with the territory. Denard dislocated fingers in his hand against OSU. That is not RR's fault. I know RR wanted to win that game, its not like he blew it. Face it, OSU is just significantly better than us at this point in time.
We've got to cut down on Denard's carries. He averaged over 20 carries a game and that was including the BGSU game (when he had five). He took a pounding, and as great a runner as he was this year, he still threw for 700 more yards than he ran, and his YPA was terrific. Next year, regardless of whom the coach is, I'd like to see him more around 10-15 carries a game. That's enough to keep the defense honest while hopefully allowing him to finish games. (This year, all of his injuries occurred in the second half of games, except for the BGSU game.) I think he's capable of being a 1,000/3,000 guy.
I'm 100% with you. I think the thing we were missing this year was a dynamic and game breaking running back (huge missing piece if you ask me). Look at the best spread running offenses that you can remember (i.e. Oregon with Stewart, West Virginia with Slaton, Oregon with James, etc). What they had in common beyond a solid QB is a dynamic runner that forced defenses to truly respect the zone read handoff/keeper.
We didn't have that, so Denard had to run more, but I agree that Denard needs to have less carries a game. He would (hopefully) be less prone to injury and the offense would open up more.
Thats if he doesn't pull a Mallet......Urban Meyers is just waiting in the shadows.
Mallet because he had one position he could play and the system didn't fit him. I remember watching him come in for an injured Henne and thinking wow at least Michigan has a legit Qb for the next few years. Denard might fit into another system where as Mallet couldn't.
Mallet could have fit into RR's offense. In fact, RR has run pass first spread option attacks in the past, and Mallet is at his best throwing out of the shotgun formation and also on the move. RR would not have run read-option with Mallet's obvious other talents. Michigan is just not where he wanted to be.
Hopefully, Denard's heart is at Michigan no matter what the situation. Florida and Miami will be prowling if RR is gone.
"Gentlemen, This is Michigan," Glenn E. "Bo" Schembechler
Do you really think Harbaugh would be able to keep Denard? If so, for what reasons?
I do not ask this with animosity- I just can't believe that the odds are more than 50/50 we keep him.
and if we lost Denard I would freak the hell out. A legit Heisman contender, a stud dual threat video game style QB, my favorite player, etc etc etc.
I'm not so sure its 50/50 that he stays or goes, but that would fucking suck.
Sorry for swearing...
I'll go on the record and state that there is no way Denard will stay if Rodriguez goes. I sure as hell wouldn't and it pains me to say that.
Disgruntled former moderator. I got a lot of problems with you people!
Maybe he has made friends and likes it here. Maybe Harbaugh shows him that he was a great dual threat qb here at Michigan. Maybe Denard feels that a new coaching staff would give him a better chance to win before he graduates. Coaching changes are made all the time and most kids dont transfer. You probably feel like kids are likely to leave because since RR has been the coach..someone farts in the wrong direction and a kid transfers..that is not the norm, that is just what has been happening under RR.
How can you kill that which has no life
in some bastardized pro style offense that is trying to mix spread running elements into it (a form of Tresselball, if you will) and Denard is no longer Denard. He is pretty good but nothing special. He has an OK career, but nothing like the promise he showed in 2010.
I would rather see what Denard can be once the entire spread 'n shred is installed and he has the ability to run the full offense. Otherwise, it will be sad.
But conversely, Pryor was only knocked out of one game this year, and returned after a couple of series. Denard was knocked out at least temporarily almost every week, and left four games for good. Maybe the guy's body just isn't built to withstand 20-25 carries a week. My worst fear is exactly what happened last Saturday - Denard having to watch the OSU game from the sidelines.
I'm optimistic about that. Remember Troy Smith? Now imagine him with 0.25 seconds off his 40 time. They're the same size, and I think Denard could throw as well as him. Their first seasons as a starter are pretty comparable, even though Smith was a RS junior with half a season's worth of action under his belt during his.
LSA, Class of 2009
You and I both know TP will lead the Heisman watch yet again
"Ohio is like a giant turd that Michigan just can't pinch off"
and then get beat out by Robinson and someone else for first and second team All Big Ten, again...
Missing Ann Arbor
for all Big Ten at QB position. D-Rob should get 1st team IMO. The 2nd team is up for grabs between Stanzi, Tolizen, Cousins, Persa and Pryor.
EDIT: Whoops, didn't see the All-Big Ten selection. Denard not on 1st or 2nd team is an outrage IMO.
That's what pisses me off. The Bucks have a good team and thats why TP will be a heisman frontrunner. He's the 3rd best QB in the big ten next year IMO... 1st The Nard Dog, 2nd Little Brother Kirk Cousins (If he stays)
I can't bring myself to care....I just want us to beat MSU and OSU again.
I would gladly trade anything else for seasons where our seniors go out, not crying, but happy.
ATTN NBA Dads and Siblings: Have brothers / sons on the hoops come-up?
Michigan = NBA Family U
Denard will win the Heisman while doing that.
But how realistic is it whether the coach is RR or JH? DR has loads of talent, but can't seem to stay in the game for four quarters and makes terrible decisions on his passing. Does one year of maturation and conditioning cure all of that? I would love to see it but am not so sure.
Does 1 year make a change in all his decisions? Have you watched college football before..
A great person to point out here is Cousins, or Stanzi.. They improved in their decisions dramatically. Both had a few bad games here and there, but the overall numbers are much improved.. Denards Ceiling is much higher than both of those kids
It happened to a certain extent to Stanzi and Cousins. And I think Denard has more athletic ability than both of them.
Greetings from Bolivia.
"It's special how the real true people hang together. And if you don't support the program you're not a true Michigan guy. It's that simple." - Gary Moeller
Stanzi bleeds l red, white, and blue and kills hippies on sight. Denard has a long way to go before he understands this.
He might be able to contend, but I don't know if he can win it. He will have to get more accurate on his downfield passes. Right now he throws everything on a line.
If it wsn't for all the turnovers and injuries, Denard would still be in the discussion this year! If he can just cut back on turnovers (and injuries?) then he will win the Heisman next year...and Michigan will win more games
'Cats comin' for y'all
be it conference or national titles. While I too believe Denard is as talented as anyone int he country and a damn good QB and will only get better. I just can't see where RR has the fundamental understanding of what type of defense you have to have in the B10 (mind you the last 2 season are the 2 worse defensive seasons in Michigan history). I would guess with our schedule next year we're looking at 9 - 3 perhaps 10 - 2 , but not better than 6 - 2 in the B10 which won't get us anywhere in terms of a championship ... which may leave Denard out of the running.
Go Blue !
No place on earth I'd rather be on a football Saturday than Michigan Stadium !
act as though Rodriguez, despite coaching college football for 25 years, never knew anything about the Big Ten before he got here?
I just hope he's not gone or returning punts.
Hopefully the Miami gig is filled long before DB makes a decision. I dont think Drob would leave if RRod didnt have a HC job at a major d1 school. If RRod goes to Miami were screwed..
Are you fucking serious right now? Please tell me you intended sarcasm there.
It's all John Navarre's fault.
Tim Tebow's Florida gators record was something like 8-4. He did have a great year and there were no other quality candidates (McFadden, McCoy, Pat White). I think if Michigan wins 9 games next year with some quality victories (OSU, MSU, Nebraska) he could win the heisman.
Of those three, UM really only has a chance of defeating MSU next year. We're so far away from competing with OSU it's not even funny.
"If you shoot me, you're liable to lose a lot of those humanitarian awards."
So your saying we cant compete with Nebraska? Have you seen them play??
OK, Urban Meyer ran a traditional offense at Utah but comes to Florida and realizing what he has in Tebow implements a spread variation to maximize Tebow's talents and wins big time while Tebow cops a Heisman. Jim Harbaugh are you listening? The precedent has already been set and the path made plain.
Now, Fellow Brethren of the Wolverine Order I will be just as happy with RR coming back to a more experienced team next season full of Sophs and Juniors, but if DB decides to make a change and bring in JH then hopefully JH will pull a Florida Twitch in the Big Ten.
I'm a Michigan Man - win, lose, live, or die...and when I pass on send my spirit to the maize block M in the big blue sky.
Hate to burst your bubble, but Urban was running a spread option attack at Bowling Green and Utah, long before he got to Florida- check out old highlights of Alex Smith at Utah. He ran for double-digit TD's and threw for like 30 in his junior year, I believe. Josh Harris at BG may have been the QB Meyer had while there, and if I recall, he was also a solid dual-threat guy.
Front runner until the meat of the Big10 again.
