Dantonio Says Weird Things

Submitted by heckdchi on
From rivals.com's Big Ten weekend preview: "When you look at that number seven, for the people here that are spiritual in that sense, understand the Bible, you look at the number seven, it means completion. When you look at our football season right now, we have an opportunity to win seven games. That's important for this program." - Michigan State coach Mark Dantonio, on getting to the seventh win of the season http://collegefootball.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=1018150 Is there a greater context to this or something I'm missing? I know it isn't a huge deal but making a big deal out of making it to 7 regular season wins seems very odd to me.

"When you think about love and family, really all that matters is that togetherness. So when I see us at 7 wins with a chance for one more, I think to myself... truly... "Eight is Enough" "When I think about eternity and love, I think not about death but about life. And that's what's special about getting this ninth win. Because as the allegory about the cat says... Nine Lives. Not just a series of lifes but the idea of LIVING. Nine LIVES." "After we got our ninth win, I thought to myself Mark... Yes Mark? It's Mark. Mark... What rhymes with Heaven? Win Ten, Mark? Yes, Mark. Win Ten. Win Ten rhymes with Heaven."

i'm sure some one will make a crack about how it will be important for us to get to seven wins as well some year, but I do not ever think that 7 will be that important as to be linked to some spiritual reawakening- maybe 10,11,12,13 MNC- NEVERjust 7.

I think thats his jab at Michigan trying to get to 6 wins. Seriously, I am not convinced that anything MD does is not about Michigan in some way.

kind of freaks me out. Very very intense and his obsession with Michigan looks to be deep-seeded. Take a hot-tub or something Mark, calm the F down.

Shouldn't the public servant not be invoking religion or something? I think when he was eating his Wheaties and HGH for breakfast in his Sparty underoos, he came up with this spiritual revelation.

in plain view on his desk at all times. If he's openly religious, that will appeal to those players who share similar attitudes and religious views. I just wonder what it would do to him if MSU won 6 games three years in a row, if you know what I mean.

The cupboard was bare this year. Of course we went 3-9...I mean, went to a bowl game. Everyone knew that was going to happen. Wait until our coach gets his players. We'll be a machine! Will Gholston and two in a row agrees with your statement about not capitalizing, though. And yet here you are, in your imaginary window of superiority, struggling to get to .500, and discussing MSU football 48 hours before the Ohio State game. Pride came before the fall, indeed.

Hey, Michigan fans constantly talk about how obsessed MSU fans are with Michigan. There are numerous threads here about MSU and/or Dantonio that absolutely PROVE how obsessed MSU is with Michigan. But hey: Aren't you impressed with our vocabulary? We invent new terms every day like "douche" or "douchebag" or "bag of douche" or "D-Bag" or "douchey" or "doosh" or "deusche" and well, you get it. That proves we're smarter. AND we're smarter and our constant MSU discussion proves you are obsessed with us.

Well, if your goal is only to beat Michigan, then yes, you've capitalized. Congratulations. The rest of your season went to shit, but by golly, you beat a team with walk-ons and freshmen galore! That's something to tell your grandkids about. Congrats on Will Gholston, though. It's a huge recruiting win for you when you get a big-time recruit who lives with an MSU slappie. That was some A+ recruiting.

If you don't like walk ons and freshman, maybe Richie Rich shouldn't have run all the upperclassmen out of town to make way for his midgets? Unfortunately for you, Michigan State is a young team as well, with many of the key players underclassmen. Kirk Cousins - Sophomore Larry Caper - Freshman Edwin Baker - Freshman BJ Cunningham - RS Sophomore Jerel Worthy -Sophomore Oren Wilson - Sophomore Blake Treadwell - Freshman Johnny Adams - RS Sophomore Keyshawn Martin - Sophomore Chris Norman - Freshman See, the good teams build for the future. Michigan State redshirted a good cornerback in Johnny Adams, and a few e good young offensive linemen in Nate Klatt, Micajah Reynolds, and David Barrent. We didn't have to hurriedly plug freshmen into roles they weren't ready for. "Went to shit", though? A bowl game in a year with the last and worst of JLS's recruiting classes as seniors is not necessarily "shit". I'm almost sure you wouldn't turn down a bowl game at this point, either. But hell, if you want to make fun of us for only being slightly better than you, so be it. That's what Michigan has been reduced to. Don't be bitter; you still have those pre-World War II championships to rub in our face.

Recruiting is not something you should be hanging your hat on. Michigan had the #6 class in the country last year, and we're currently #17 despite 3-9 and 5-6 years while you're languishing at #31. I would dispute the rest of your post, but...eh. I love that you use that "Pride comes before the fall" line to gloat on an opposing team's message board. That's irony at its best.

sometimes make good coaches. Bill McCartney, for example. Had he stayed with the program, he would have succeeded Bo. Bo's best assistant, by far. Then again, sometimes Bible thumpers are dour, pompous gasbags like Mark Dantonio.

and survival of the fittest probably got Michigan football into this 5-6 mess in the first place. I sense a consipiracy and suggest we all revert back to the pre-Renaissance customs and mores in order to better cope.

If you look at the Garden of Eden, there was a lot of green. And Michigan State's uniforms are green. Coincidence? I think not. Furthermore, if MSU's students want to live through a victory celebration, they'll have to pull a Meshach, Shadrach, and Abednego.

In the non-canonical scriptural "Book of Sparty" it was said that a savior would one day come along that could make MSU a regular seven win team. With the way the season started, there were those among the Sparty faithful who started that doubt that Dantonio was "the ONE" who could give them what God had promised them, and what they have not had up to this point--a coach that can give them seven wins regularly. They are praying that their messiah of mediocrity has finally arrived.

"When you look at that number seven, for the people here that are spiritual in that sense, understand the Bible, you look at the number seven, it means completion" I have to give this one a FAIL! Nine is the number of completion not seven. Seven is a important number but there are many others. 3,5,7,9, 13, 333 etc...

3= trinity...Man,Woman and child. Sun Moon and stars, Father, son..you know the rest. 5= represents the five senses. 7=G_d resting on the 7th day, 7th heaven, G being the 7th letter of our alphabet.. Now 9..multiply any number by 9 and add the numbers up, they still add up to 9. Nine months to deliver a full term baby. 9 is the last single digit number in a base10 scale. 333=When G_d spoke his name to Moses, the name equivalent in Hebrew is a number...333. Please dont take shots at me. I dont speak ill of anyone...I just pointed out that he was wrong.

I believe seven is also noteworthy in that Dantonio has played the QB shuffle with Nichol and Cousins for that many games. And Nichol has 7 yards passing on the year.
