Interestingly, no buyout if he leaves early.  He gets 4.3 million bonus if he stays through January of 2020

He's an ass, he's a douche, etc.  No doubt.

But he made that program relevant again.  Coming in after Bobby Williams and John L. Smith (miss you both xoxoxoxoxo), that was not an easy task.

I just hope his program implodes with the departure of Cook.  So far, he seems to find a way to build a good team out of two four stars, some old soup cans, and anger.  But I don't think that will work as well with a resurgent Michigan.

I agree with 100% of what you just said. I'm not planning on their demise, that way I'll be happier when it does happen. He does deserve it. I struggle to see how they will sustain this level of spending, unless the new B1G Network contract is really going to be huge. Every B1G school has wealthy alumni, but I don't hear MSU's mentioned anywhere in the conversation amongst the wealthiest. They're going to need continued strong support to continue to try to play with the big boys. That being said, they did just sign maybe their best recruiting class ever, so....

Can't say that he and his staff don't deserve it.  11 wins or more in 5 of the last 6 years along with 3 conference titles.  That is the type of success I hope Michigan goes on to have under Harbaugh, well minus the 38-0 loss to Alabama.

Even if we consider the question for a moment, you probably have to look at their booster / alum base and try to figure out what they could theoretically offer really, and I have to imagine that, even despite the rise to relevancy in the recent past, it wouldn't be a fraction of what some schools even in the conference could offer in such a scenarion. As was pointed out in another thread, offering such perks may not nearly be as prevalent or tolerated around these parts though.

If he leaves January of 2020, he is guaranteed a winning record against Michigan by at least one game, regardless of what happens going forward. This is not by accident.
