Csont'e York dismissed from the program
Well I don't think it was really in question after the video came out, but it looks like it just became official.
Michigan announces that Csont'e York has been dismissed from the program.

school administration and lawyers.
It was a matter of time.
August 18th, 2014 at 6:54 PM ^
but this was absolutely, without a doubt, the proper move.
Hope he's able to get it together down the road.
August 18th, 2014 at 6:55 PM ^
Bad, bad deal, but it's what had to happen. It was also a stupid youthful mistake that I hope he is able to learn and rebound from. Best of luck to him in the future.

Too bad for Csont'e - and I hope he learns from this and makes the most of it - but clearly the right decision by Hoke. People give him shit, but I think Hoke has handled discipline very well so far. Exhibit A is the way that Frank Clark seems to have turned his life around. Exhibit B could end up being Will Hagerup.

i'd say it mirrors what most people on here feel.

"While second chances are certainly deserved, sometimes it's better for everyone if that happens somewhere else."
Pretty direct and to the point. Don't screw up badly and think you'll just get a do-over. There are consequences.

It's Hoke's quote.
August 18th, 2014 at 7:09 PM ^
showing what it did, there was no way Hoke could keep him on even if he feels Csont'e is a good kid.
If Hoke still believes in him, he has connections in the MAC to get York in a good second-chance situation. If he isn't a good kid - there is always Tressel/Akron. (I keed, I keed)
August 18th, 2014 at 8:04 PM ^
left WMU so they have a receiver spot open.
I hope he bounces back and has a great career and life. Michigan had no choice but do this.
August 18th, 2014 at 8:40 PM ^
I hope this announcement lines up timewise with York finding a new home. Seeing the video it's pretty obvious he needed to be dismissed but completely throwing him out of the program before he could take some steps to get things together would have been a pretty cold move, IMO.
August 18th, 2014 at 7:10 PM ^
I'm sorry to see Csont'e York put himself in this situation, and honestly wish him the best - elsewhere. As Coach Hoke said, "sometimes it's better for everyone if that happens somewhere else."
Good luck to you Csont'e. I hope to hear of your successful turnaround at a good program in the next year or so, and soon thereafter of your graduation and further success.
August 18th, 2014 at 6:56 PM ^
Good for Hoke.
August 18th, 2014 at 7:05 PM ^
I know what you kinda meant, but this isn't something Coach Hoke is likely to be proud about or something we need to commend him on. It's a shitty situation. He did the only thing he could do.
August 18th, 2014 at 7:22 PM ^
I think Hoke being open and honest about it is an improvement from some of the previous problems.
August 18th, 2014 at 7:44 PM ^
In fact, I'd bet he feels a lot worse about the situation than we do. That shouldn't prevent us from being pleased with how he has handled it.

i think we all know this was the right move.

Anyone else think he never would have been dismissed had the internet not been invented? The whole "review process" was pretty much bullshit.
He saw the video.
What "review" was needed?

I assume the athletic department functions much like a corporation. This isn't some mom and pop AD where you just do what you want or what you feel like; there are proceedures and policies in place and protocol is followed according the incident in question. You need that kind of structure in place at an organization the size of UM's AD.
August 18th, 2014 at 8:14 PM ^
Especially when you're talking about removing a kid from scholarship. If you don't do your due dillegence you could open yourself up in ways you didn't intend.
As an athletics administrator, Michigan did EXACTLY what it needed to. I've seen first hand kids keep their scholarship because the coach and/or AD handled the issue the wrong way (volleyball girl broke team rules when it came to drinking, got kicked off the team and the coach took the scholarship and the girl had never been through the University process for kids who basically did what she did).
In the end, the girl was transferred, so it worked out. But she could've stayed on campus and attended classes and not played VB any longer and went to school on scholarship for a sport she didn't play anymore.

You're on a "shitty post" roll.

to laugh out loud at this. I remember when Gore said he "invented" the internet. The worst part is people actually believed him, now that is scary.
Thanks for the chuckle.

Typically the tone associated with that phrase is not to wish someone well.
August 18th, 2014 at 7:50 PM ^
Dear, I think you are being far too harsh. Yes, it was right for York to be dismissed. He made a poor decision, and is now suffering the consequences. But "good riddance?" No, this isn't a good thing, but a sad thing. Sweetheart, how many times do I need to tell you, kindness, charity, generosity, and a spirit of forgiveness are a much better way to go. Honey, I hated to do it, but I had to downvote you. Keep this up, and I'll have to ask the mods for special dispensation to monitor you, so I can keep you on a short leash. I still love you, but you're out of line.
Your one and only,
Steve

Even for me this is wierd. But hey, such is life. And FTW, there hasn't been smut here for ages. Magnus has the corner on that.

Do we know how the guy he punched is doing? I assume that we'd be hearing a lot about it if the guy were in really bad shape, but I don't remember much coming out.
August 18th, 2014 at 7:13 PM ^
I haven't seen too much coverage either - I know that the initial blow took out some teeth, broke the guy's jaw in three places and forced him to breathe via a tube for a bit. I really do hope he is well on his way to getting well again. I also believe, as others do, that this was absolutely the correct call by Hoke.

The most detail I've seen on the victim is this from a DetNews article:
[The victim's] mother told police her son suffered a broken jaw in three places, required plates to repair it, and the jaw was wired. He will require follow-up medical care every two weeks for several weeks, she said.

Hearing from 11 Warriors that if it had happened at Ohio State, Urban would have publicly sawed C'sonte's hand off, since Meyer is so tough on discipline.
"He figures to avoid what would probably be a longer suspension if he played his home games in Columbus."
August 18th, 2014 at 7:38 PM ^
The condescending assumption that their punishment would be worse combined with the implicit assumption of a lesser form of punishment.
August 18th, 2014 at 7:48 PM ^
I also heard that in Columbus you have to smear lamb's blood on the outside of your door every night before you go to sleep or else Urban sends the angel of death to kill your first born child. However, these stories do tend to get embellished...
