Countess-Thoughts?

I think he looked pretty good so far.  What do you all think?

The only thing he struggled with was finding the ball on the fade, but it was a wonderful performance by him. The defense has a lot to be proud of today, as SDSU has some talent on offense.

He played very well but was also helped with alot of bad passes by Lindley, not to take anything away from him. Im really impressed with J.T and Courtney also. Courtney had great coverage on that touchdown pass but the throw was just perfect. J.T was almost like a blanket all game. We Gots Some Depth at CB!!!

Defense is looking better each game and this was not a bad SDSU offense that our secondary shut down today! OUTSTANDING WIN AND GAME!!! GO BLUE!!! Huge game for Denard and Smith and much props to our defensive line in this one! Hoke beats his old team and everything is beautiful in A2!

thought he looked better than woolfolk, who didnt seem to be playing well. better than avery too. coaches must have thought so, as well, since he stayed out there after floyd came back.

dont think he took anyone's starting spot right away, but i think we have a new regular on the defense.

he honestly couldnt have played better for his first real action.

Just gotta keep working hard and he'll receive his playing time. Today he looked good and covered very well. He was well lined up for possible thrown interceptions

Liked what I saw, but he's still young and SDSU bailed the whole defense out at times by blurging away some passes.  That said, it is reassuring to see some of the defensive players play well.

.....given the vindictive nature of the "Michigan Secondary-Hating Gods", I thought "uh oh", but two plays in, I was thinking "OH OH!".

In other words, I like Countess. I think there's a future in the backfield for him.

and has an amazing arm. Would Hoke take a chance and put him in for a few plays against Minnesota this Saturday? With his size he can take big hits and not have to worry about his size being an obstacle. I love Robinson don't get me wrong but his throwing is inaccurate and it's frustrating to watch.

If he were a RB, I'd totally agree with you. If we need to win with his feet than we need to build big enough leads to give Devin some snaps because a running QB will get banged up. Unfortunately, that isn't happening because of bad passes and interceptions. Without the one long screen and run, he would have only thrown for ~40 yards yesterday. That won't work in the B1G.

and he's only a freshman.  So that's encouraging.  Technique-wise, also looks good, but there was one play where we blitzed Lindley, Lindley lofted it to the man Countess was covering, and Countess looked slightly out of position.  Maybe it was just a great pass by Lindley, but that was the only negative I remember.

Dare I say it...the entire defense looked competent.  My Lord how I have missed that.  God bless you Greg Mattison.

I believe the post-game radio commentators said he was tied for tackle lead with 7, and that was in only one-half of play.

No wonder Mattison made the special trip to Countess's house as soon as he got the job.

His play was excellent.  He was johnny on the spot with the come back tackles, broke up some nice passes including what was an excellent pass by Lindley to Lockett in the endzone and was sticking to his man like glue.  He is going to be a FANTASTIC corner.
