He's very obviously a first ballot hall of famer and arguably the greatest middle linebacker of all time. |
| 17 weeks 1 day ago | Quick John Harbaugh / |
Quick John Harbaugh / Ravens story... My stepdad was the equipment manager for the Ravens since they moved here in '96 (with with the Browns for 12 years before that.) Last year my sister passed away after a year's battle with cancer - Coach Harbaugh, Ray Rice, OJ Brigance, Dick Cass, Harry Swayne, Matt Stover, Kyle Richardson, and a slew of other front office personnel came to the viewing & funeral a day prior to having to fly to New England for the AFC Championship game. They were there to comfort us and let us know that they were playing (and praying) for her & for the family. My stepdad never really got along all that well with Harbaugh prior, as he had run things significantly different than Billick used to... but his attendance and sincerety in our time of need spoke loud volumes to me. He will always be a good man in my book. |

I met little 'Lando at his Dad's funeral this past summer. He was probably more like 6'7" 330 at that time, but he spoke at his Dad's funeral and there wasn't a dry eye in the house except for his. He is a focused, intelligent, mammoth of a kid. He said then that he was intent on providing for his entire family as his father had previously. I hope and pray he goes Blue, he would be astonishingly easy for me to root for. |
| 1 year 17 weeks ago | Lee Evans had the game |
Lee Evans had the game winning touchdown pass in both of his hands in the endzone and couldn't hold on... then Cundiff misses a 30 yard chip shot. Vince Wilfork player of the game. Brady was pretty pooty tang, actually. But congrats to he & Belichick. They just find a way to get it done again and again. |

I'll betcha Denard Robinson is thanking Rich Rod for the opportunity to play QB. If for nothing else, Michigan fans should be grateful to him for seeing a QB in that kid. |

| 1 year 26 weeks ago | Best part about this |
Best part about this defense: They don't commit penalties and they don't make many mistakes. It's amazing what a difference good coaching makes!!!!!! |
| 1 year 27 weeks ago | I would say the effort on |
I would say the effort on both the players' and coaches' sides during this year of transition to a completely different brand of football has been nothing short of heroic. But when you've got spread offensive personnel lined up in an I-form = nahgannaworkhereanymoreanways. MANBALL doesn't really fit the script quite yet. Denard is an amazing spread option quarterback. He is a less than amazing MANBALL quarterback. His value has been diminished, though I think Borges & Hoke have done a good job adapting to what Denard does well at times. This was never going to be Rich Rod's offense & Mattison's defense. That's just not Borges/Hoke's modus operandi. In a transitional year, I will happily take 8-2 at this point. Those who are complaining simply aren't being realistic. |

I almost feel bad for the officials. What an embarrassing series of F-ups. Still, I don't think Michigan really earned this one. They sucked for the better part of the game. |

| 1 year 31 weeks ago | They got beat by a better |
They got beat by a better team. MSU's defense is about as good (and dirty) as I've seen all season. They weren't going undefeated, unfortunately. They've got a coaching staff wired for different personnel. I think a major difference from last year is that you won't see them lose 4 out of their last 6 games. Michigan's defense is far superior to last year's defense in a number of ways. This is probably an 8-9 win team. Just got beat by a better one today, unfortunately. |

| 1 year 35 weeks ago | Did he mean to say |
Did he mean to say "addicting" because it's "effective?" Perhaps Borges has discovered a whole new world. Clearly, the offensive personnel are best suited to run ye olde spread option. If they can play reasonable defense and not turn the ball over, this is a pretty damn good football team. |
| 1 year 35 weeks ago | I don't necessarily disagree |
I don't necessarily disagree with the OP, and there's always room to critique the playcalling. But you have to expect relatively vanilla playcalling on both sides of the ball vs. a club like Eastern. I would imagine Borges & Hoke saw it as an opportunity to "work on shit" a little bit. Still, I'm not sure I'd even bother working on shit at this point. It's fairly clear that the personnel on this offense are most efficient & comfortable (not to mention EFFECTIVE) running the spread... so you know, run the spread and junk. Aaron Shea be damned for a couple seconds. Once you have the proper personnel to line up and smash fullback facefirst into linebacker, have at it. Right now isn't the time to force a square peg into a round hole, and I think Borges & Hoke understand that. There's no reason you can't run the spread and be a little more careful with the football. There's no reason you can't run the spread and you know, play actual defense. There's no reason you can't run the spread and win games. If Hoke & Borges are smart, they'll stick with somewhat of a hybrid set up even through B1G play. |
| 1 year 36 weeks ago | Any dude with that kind of |
Any dude with that kind of size just needs the proper motivation & technique before he becomes an unstoppable force. Hell, they have to double him now and he's relatively green. It's honestly just a shame that Hoke didn't get him as a freshman. |
| 1 year 36 weeks ago | Back shoulder throws and jump |
Back shoulder throws and jump balls are extremely effective whenever you've got a corner/defender who's either shorter or significantly slower than your target. That said... you obviously don't want to have to rely on jump balls, especially when they're into double coverage (!!!!) b/c most safeties have the play in front of them and they're gonna see the ball go up. Hemingway is a big kid and he can provide a mismatch a lot of times, so I'm okay with jump balls to him when he's one on one. He'll win that battle most of the time, he's good at posting up his guy and making a play. |

Someone tell Mattison that every single time Rees checks to something else, it's a run. Every time it's a run and Michigan is blizting, getting caught up field and torched. You have to adapt!!!!!!!!!!!! |

| 1 year 37 weeks ago | My 2 cents on Mattison's |
My 2 cents on Mattison's influence / pedigree: I was a ballboy for the Ravens for 8 years, through Mike Nolan, Rex and Mattison. Got to know Chuck Pagano pretty well too, prior to his takeover. My stepdad has been the equipment manager for that organization for just under 750 years. Rex was the first guy to really go outside the box, even from what Marvin Lewis was doing back in 2000 when they won the Super Bowl. Back then they had two HUGE DT's (Siragusa & Sam Adams), which basically commanded at least one double team, Michael McCrary coming off the end, and Rob Burnett (I believe) on the other end. But the focal point of the defense were the DT's, which prevented the interior lineman from getting to Ray Lewis, Boulware, Jamie Sharper, et al... leaving them free to run running backs down like grass (assuming they even made it past the 2nd level.) Rex's defenses were a mish mash of all kinds of ridiculous stuff. He had the benefit of having a DT like Ngata who's plenty athletic enough to drop back into coverage and do a pretty damn good job of it. Rex's defenses were always extraordinary at disguising their blitz packages. That's what set them apart. When Mattison arrived, the players felt that his schemes were too vanilla. Obviously, he learned a lot about what Rex had devised (truthfully, mostly through #52) over his tenure here, and he's lucky enough to have an athletic enough kid at Michigan in Martin to sort of "play the role" of Ngata. I'll say this: if Mattison sticks around, we'll see some things on the defensive side of the ball at Michigan that'll drop some jaws. The Hoke - Mattison combination is going to create a friggin' FORCE in the B1G in the coming years. Always liked Coach Mattison and got to know his kid Bryan relatively well given his exile to the practice squad. (The smaller role a kid has, the more time he has to hang out with "the help.") Very excited for the season and to see what immediate impacts Coach Matts has. He's an old dog that learned a ton of new tricks during his stay in Baltimore, and I'm psyched to see the early returns. |

It's extremely hard to hit at first. Gotta be patient, literally. Stay back as best you can - most pitches are reaaaaaaaaally close to the zone. Pitchers don't miss by much in this game. |
