Jim has l a record of something like 130 wins and 8 losses vs teams with a worse roster than his teams ..and the Lions roster is still 4-5 years away from being good --thats if they hit on most of their draft picks

With or without Harbaugh ,the Vikings will be the best team in NFC North for the next decade ,very deep ,young roster

I think he will be known for stabilizing the ship and setting it on a better path forward. Not great but also not terrible at all .... if he leaves I really just didn't see that coming as he was where he needed to be and could ride off into retirement in 5 years with his family all in one place.  I like him and thought he did a good job here but felt he missed in the area of building talent to be the best they could be and opening things up more offensively (although this year was better in that dept).  I certainly feel JH cared and did his best and truly loves this University.

To get credit for "stabilizing" a program, you have to actually leave it on stable ground. Leaving in February puts us in a horrible spot in so many ways -- a late coaching search, no time to shore up recruiting, etc.

His legacy will be taking 7 years to accomplish what he was hired to do, and then promptly bailing at the worst possible time for the University.

So, if the parallels hold, what sexier job would Josh Gattis bolt for in 5 years, taking his star QB and half the recruiting class with him, after being unable to field a defense that could stop the likes of Kansas State and Iowa State from upsetting him every year?

I love Hart as much as anyone else and am glad he came home.  He seems to be a clear asset to the staff and, in time, he could develop into HC material.  He needs a little more time and experience, at least be a coordinator first.  Giving the keys to someone with no experience at higher positions reeks of desperation.

I'd be open to an interim year that's basically an interview. I'd like to see what his offense looks like without Harbaugh's restrictions. He came in stressing speed in space, but it was clear by the 6 OL stuff and 3+ TE stuff that Harbaugh still had a big imprint on the offense. He could help salvage as much of the recruiting as possible as well.

Because that's better than hiring someone for the sake of hiring someone this late in the coaching hire cycle, and you could conceivably keep some of the staff and hopefully a lot of the reciting class in tact. And the spread elements of the offense were the parts I did like -- especially with JJ at the helm and Corum is space. I'm not convinced that there wasn't already a succession plan in place.
