TREMENDOUS.

Mattison may be my favorite coach ever.

Gal damn is he an impressive interview.
August 12th, 2011 at 9:09 AM ^
Got an opportunity to meet him a few months back, and I totally understand why he is such an amazing recruiter.
August 12th, 2011 at 11:47 AM ^
recruit you out of your pants?

I was taking the kids around campus one day in June. We were about to go into the museum in Schembechler Hall and he came strolling out. I introduced myself and my kids, and he looked my son right in the eyes and asked
"Are you ready for some defense, son?"
My son, with a great deal of excitement, stumbled over his words for a minute then answer with a louder-than-expected "YES SIR!"
He laughed, and replied "So am I, so am I. Great things are happening up here. Go Blue!"
My son had to call my wife at that moment and couldn't stop gushing.

Really like what he says about denard. I mean I know he ain't going to say anything bad but it really sounds like he truley thinks he is going still be a special player even in this new offence
August 12th, 2011 at 9:12 AM ^
But I could listen to Greg Mattison all day.
I know, a little "eeeeeee." Still.
August 12th, 2011 at 9:12 AM ^
Jerry Montgomery is one big-ass guy. He even dwarfs Willy Campbell in this video.
August 12th, 2011 at 1:47 PM ^
..I believe he played DLine for Iowa in the late 90s
August 12th, 2011 at 9:14 AM ^
You can't dislike Greg Mattison. Just listening to him talk gives me all kinds of hope about this coming season.
August 12th, 2011 at 9:39 AM ^
You love him.
If you are not for Michigan, you fear him.
YYYYEEEESSSS!!!
August 12th, 2011 at 9:15 AM ^
He is my favorite coach...love this guy
August 12th, 2011 at 9:20 AM ^
Intense glare from Montgomery at 2:07
August 12th, 2011 at 9:21 AM ^
Hidey-ho GMatt! The guy is a bald Earl Hindman.
August 12th, 2011 at 9:41 AM ^
Craig Roh is huge.
August 12th, 2011 at 11:39 AM ^
I think Roh is gonna have a breakout year
August 12th, 2011 at 1:43 PM ^
That's exactly what I was thinking. Is that him at about the 3:10 mark in the video, right after #93 (Chris Eddins?)? I had to replay that a few times because it looked like him, except he's huge. Hopefully he hasn't lost a step at all.
August 12th, 2011 at 9:42 AM ^
QB iso at 4:18, great to know it's in the playbook.
August 12th, 2011 at 10:02 AM ^
First day with pads today! Woo!
Also, I think I missed this, but what happened to Mattison's knee?
August 12th, 2011 at 10:06 AM ^
WOTS is he hurt it kicking ass on the recruiting circuit
August 12th, 2011 at 10:46 AM ^
I beleive he slipped on the ice back in Feburary walking to Schembechler hall and broke/tore something. If I am wrong someone feel free to correct me.
August 12th, 2011 at 1:17 PM ^
but that ice mishap was very likely the reason for the later surgery.
August 12th, 2011 at 1:49 PM ^
When I saw him in my aforementioned response, he was walking with a cane. I think the ice thing is right.

I got the gosh golly maize and blue goose bumps all over, all over. Want me some smash mouth D!!!
August 12th, 2011 at 10:29 AM ^
You can't defense him.
August 12th, 2011 at 11:38 AM ^
Such a great personality, so glad to have him at UM. Love how in depth he talks about getting a good kid, and making him even better. It all starts on the DL. With Montgomery, Mattison, and Hoke as coaches I love the fact how these defenses will be geting better each year!
August 12th, 2011 at 11:55 AM ^
Just watching interviews with Hoke and Mattison you can really see why they are great recruiters. They aren't really selling anything (or even trying to, seemingly), but their enthusiasm for the program and for coaching is infectious.
August 12th, 2011 at 12:13 PM ^
have I really missed the use of 'tremendous'
August 12th, 2011 at 1:37 PM ^
Man, I hope this guy has another decade of coaching left in him, becuase I think he is going to bring the pride back to Michigan.
I think having his family, particularly his granddaughter, in town will help with that a lot.
He's 61 now right, so I figure if he can wait to retire until he's 75, I'd find that acceptable.
Love this guy!
August 12th, 2011 at 7:29 PM ^
JoePa is still going at 84. I think we can have Mattison for at least 20 years!
August 12th, 2011 at 3:45 PM ^
has to say about making the QB feel uncomfortable. It sounds like it's really a central tenant of his defensive doctrine.
