And by the same metric, Indiana beat a top 8 team and lost to a top ten team on the road
December 5th, 2020 at 8:29 PM ^
The big 10 catering to the biggest team makes sense. We’d be arguing the same thing as OSU if the roles were reversed. They’re not and we suck.
Michigan football should adopt a new mascot: Forky from Toy Story 4.
December 5th, 2020 at 8:35 PM ^
Indiana has had a great season, their defense has been taking the ball away, and their trajectory seems to be on the up.
But, to say they beat a top 8 team (Penn State) seems amiss. They also beat Rutgers, UM, Sparty, and Maryland. Winning at Wisconsin feels huge, but what is Wisky this year (beat Illinois and UM, had no chance to win the West based on games, and lost to the teams with a pulse)???
They've also forced like 20 turnovers in 7 games, which is awesome, but hard to replicate year after year.
December 6th, 2020 at 5:28 AM ^
The Clemson hate is so old. You’d have a better point if they routinely flopped in the playoffs. Far from it though.
December 6th, 2020 at 7:53 AM ^
Clemson would only get a playoff berth if they beat ND for the ACC Championship - which seems reasonable. Now, if ND loses and still gets an invite... much grumbling should ensue.
Because a playoff system that is invitation-only is completely fair and reasonable.
December 6th, 2020 at 2:45 PM ^
Uh No.
Clemson will get in because the #1 player in the nation and NFL draft was out in the one close loss.
Also, there are 31-0 reasons why you want Clemson in the playoffs.

The players continually interrupting Allen's post game interview to yell how much they love playing for him tells you all you need to know about Harbaugh. Bye Jim.
December 6th, 2020 at 7:06 AM ^
I'd take Tom Allen and his staff rigtht now. They play hard and look like they are having a blast doing it. He's at the top of my list for realistic candidates. He brings the passion and fire that Harbaugh no longer has.
December 5th, 2020 at 7:04 PM ^
Choked up watching that post game interview. Jealous of all that program has going for it.
December 5th, 2020 at 7:04 PM ^
Very impressed with what Allen has accomplished. It’s just nice to see a coach and his players enjoying themselves.
December 5th, 2020 at 8:40 PM ^
It's nice to see a coach who seems to know which day of the week it is.
December 5th, 2020 at 7:04 PM ^
Tom Allen has done a great job with that team. Reminds me a lot of Lloyd Carr in the way the players love playing for him.
Guys would run through a brick wall for coach Allen, and coach Carr...meanwhile our guys won't even run through a tackle for harbaugh.
December 5th, 2020 at 7:17 PM ^
Reminds me very little of Lloyd Carr in the way he does more with less (rather than, generally, less with more).
Sorry. Lloyd definitely cared for his players and he understood that there was life beyond football.
December 5th, 2020 at 7:36 PM ^
Yeah my point is just how much the players loved him, and always played their asses off.
December 5th, 2020 at 8:12 PM ^
Lloyd Carr clearly cared for his players, won big games and ran a clean program.
He recruited very well and, perhaps, did not equal that with annual outcomes.
That said, he has a National Championship ring which is a lot more than we've seen the past twenty five years.
December 5th, 2020 at 9:45 PM ^
That national championship was literally 23 years ago. So yea it’s the only thing we’ve seen in 25 years
December 5th, 2020 at 10:31 PM ^
Dude..
Srsly.
December 5th, 2020 at 7:21 PM ^
The players loved Lloyd from the very start. Eight weeks into his first season in 1995, half the team threatened to quit if the interim label wasn't removed and he didn't become the official head coach.
December 5th, 2020 at 7:22 PM ^
Lloyd consistently lost 3-4 games a year with a very talented roster..
December 5th, 2020 at 7:34 PM ^
Yes he did. But players loved playing for him and played their asses off. That was my only point.
December 5th, 2020 at 7:57 PM ^
Harbaugh’s players love him. They love him so much they’ll sit out of a bowl game to protect their undrafted free agent status.
December 5th, 2020 at 9:02 PM ^
But they didn't always play their asses off. Teams during that effort were criticized because they often didn't perform to expectations or win the big games (e.g. ND, on the road, bowl games, etc.). If they were playing their asses off, they would have been winning more games. I agree that those teams loved Carr as a coach and respected him, but that doesn't mean they played harder. Unless you think the coaching was poor and held the players back which then kind of eliminates your original point.
December 6th, 2020 at 12:29 AM ^
C'mon that isn't true. The players seem down but they do seem to be trying.
December 5th, 2020 at 7:06 PM ^
My boss was a four year defensive starter at IU. He’s been feeling pretty good this year.
December 5th, 2020 at 7:11 PM ^
Well deserved.
December 5th, 2020 at 7:11 PM ^
Good for them
December 5th, 2020 at 7:11 PM ^
Go, IU! (I get to bask indirectly, cuz my niece is a student athletic trainer.)
December 5th, 2020 at 7:18 PM ^
The entire B1G is reading this blog. . .
and laughing at us. . .
December 5th, 2020 at 7:59 PM ^
Well I guess they had to come here to get a chuckle this week since we’re not on tv. A team coached by Jim Harbaugh gives unlimited amounts of laughs.
I feel like negative recruiting should be really easy for other schools. Instead of talking about Harbaugh’s contract why not just turn on some game tape?
December 5th, 2020 at 8:31 PM ^
I can't tell if you actually believe this... We aren't that important.
December 5th, 2020 at 11:54 PM ^
I live in the Lansing area. Spartan fans are letting me know what's on here. They're loving this. . .believe me
December 6th, 2020 at 9:34 AM ^
Well I mean Harbaugh and warde make Wolverine schadenfreude too easy . Harbaugh looks like Dantonio in his last years except without any of the previous success of Dantonio.
December 5th, 2020 at 7:21 PM ^
My son is a freshman at IU this year and given the train wreck of a season Michigan has had it was a pleasure adopting and rooting for my son’s team. I’ll make a game next year for sure.
December 5th, 2020 at 7:24 PM ^
IU is where UofM needs to strive towards. OSU is a pipe dream. JH has no emotional vesting in this team as I would NEVER expect his players to scream they love him on national T.V.
I miss the days of JB and the ‘hey hey, it’s great, to be a Michigan Wolverine’.
December 5th, 2020 at 7:32 PM ^
December 5th, 2020 at 7:36 PM ^
Unfortunately Harbaugh is too much of a prick to do a post game interview let alone be lovingly mobbed by his players.
December 5th, 2020 at 7:33 PM ^
Of all the B1G teams I've watched this "season," it seems like UM is the only one that doesn't come to play. No fight. Maybe it's just me...
December 5th, 2020 at 7:44 PM ^
Even Nebraska has put up fights and plays hard even thought they won only their 2nd game today.
December 5th, 2020 at 8:22 PM ^
Yep. even Scott Frost has his guys fighting. Would be very karma ish if UM will plays them on Dec 19.
December 5th, 2020 at 8:47 PM ^
If Michigan chooses not to just opt out of the remaining games I’d pick Nebraska to beat this team and beat them soundly.
Michigan football in 2020 is an abortion.
December 5th, 2020 at 7:43 PM ^
It was a pleasure to watch the end of the game and see the final series and stop. BTW the IU db got away from clutch/hold but most have been trained how to do it and avoid the flag. Zordich not quite.
I thought they'd slide back when Kevin Wilson got canned for being too mean. Allen is definitely taking this program farther than anyone since Bill Mallory and probably farther than that.
In reflection, what happened to the JH of 2018 MSU game when we finally stood up to the thugs and held them to 94 yards and one gift TD????
The interviews after the game and next day, bush league, stormtroopers, etc. - that was just two years ago.
December 5th, 2020 at 7:46 PM ^
Imagine having a coach whose players didn’t despise him.
December 5th, 2020 at 7:49 PM ^
As I watched that, I thought this guy must be like Ted Lasso for his players to do that for him.
December 5th, 2020 at 8:16 PM ^
#CHAOSTEAM no more. #ACTUALGOODTEAM now.
December 5th, 2020 at 8:17 PM ^
I'm not going to shit on Tom because he has done a great job, but has he won the big, beaten osu? He has done nothing that hasn't already been done by UM.
How long has Tom been at Indiana and how many people would have been quick to show him the door for being close but not winning all these years?
December 5th, 2020 at 8:34 PM ^
What's your point? His team has had a great season. Today they beat another team that was highly rated and happened to demolish us. Without their starting QB. He gave OSU a great game at the shoe. IU's last 3 years rivals recruiting ratings are 48,38,45. Are you telling us that you can't see excellent coaching in what he has done?
He has been at IU 1 year less than Harbaugh at Michigan. And btw Michigan isn't even close in games vs good teams. We are getting blown out. You keep Harbaugh though, maybe he just needs another 6 years.
December 5th, 2020 at 9:23 PM ^
He’s done what Michigan has done with far less talent and far fewer resources at his disposal. That’s what’s the big deal about this guy.
December 5th, 2020 at 9:52 PM ^
Does being obtuse come naturally or do you have to work at it?
December 5th, 2020 at 10:02 PM ^
He works pretty hard at it.
