Coaching rumors UPDATED: full-time ST (Webb), Wheatley at RBs (Balas)

Look for Michigan to hire an assistant that will coach special teams exclusively. No position

— Sam Webb (@SamWebb77) January 7, 2015

This is thread-worthy, I think, because I'm pretty sure that this is Sam's way of saying something without revealing the name of the person who is going to take the job...

EDIT: Balas seems to be indicating that Ty Wheatley is our new RB coach:

Tyrone Wheatley officially in as Michigan's RB coach? Sounds like it ($): https://t.co/6VzBjjy9BA

We had something like that for my community swim team when I was 6.

We would all stand over our lane assignments that were on the ground and then we would hold hands and walk to our lanes when our heat came up.

And Harbaugh spake, saying, "First shalt thou take out the Book of Plays. Then shalt thou count to eleven, no more, no less. Eleven shall be the number thou shalt count, and the number of the counting shall be eleven. Twelve shalt thou not count, neither count thou ten, excepting that thou then proceed to eleven. Thirteen is right out. Once the number eleven, being the eleventh number, be reached, then deploy thou thy Most Special of Teams towards thy foe, who, being naughty in My sight, shall snuff it."

I think Durkin is probably going to have his hands full just keeping an eye on the defense. Even though most of us feel like Durkin is an up and coming talent, he's still only been a DC for 2 years and this will be the first time that he'll be completely in charge of the defense (whereas Muschamp was undoubtedly heavily involved with the defense at Florida).

It would be fine to have someone at a position coach level in charge of special teams, but I dont think we want our head defensive guy spending his time anywhere else.

Weird considering Durkin is considered as a good special teams coach. Must be good to only coach specs and take up a spot on a very impressive staff.

I like this. If u have great special teams it's such a huge advantage. We haven't seemed to focus enough on it in the past with coaching mistakes so hopefully this eliminates those

agree Beamer would be a good hire, though I'm not sure he'd accept the job. Unless it's maybe called a Special Teams Coordinator?? That way it's only one level down from head coach, but the upgrade in prestige and working with Harbaugh balances that out maybe?
