Coaches Poll: Michigan No. 8
Have you talked to your kids about a Top Ten Michigan football team?
October 3rd, 2021 at 1:31 PM ^
Week 6 Coaches Poll has UM #8
B1G has 4 of the top 8, B1G East has 4 of the top 11!
How is Oregon ranked below OSU when they beat them on the road and they both have one loss?
Iowa #3
PSU #4
OSU #7
UM #8
MSU #11

Things have looked different since they played. Oregon has not looked good 2 weeks in a row. It's the opposite for Ohio St.
October 3rd, 2021 at 1:38 PM ^
Oregon lower than Ohio State? The polls consistently combine 3 things. In decreasing level of accuracy: careful assessment of the results, traditional reputation, what happened yesterday.
It must burn TOSU that it’s lower than Cincinnati.

I'm happy to see us below the Buckeyes. I want to go into 'The Game' with them favored and ranked above us, say them #4 and us #5. I want us to be the underdogs. The only way I want us ranked above them is that we are CLEARLY the better team, not because we are unbeaten. That team down south, and their minions, do more with 'The Rivalry' than any rational people should; no need to give them something else to burn in their soul.
October 4th, 2021 at 3:50 AM ^
oh don't worry. We'll be the underdogs. At least until we prove we can beat them. As we should be.
October 3rd, 2021 at 1:40 PM ^
Recency bias
11-1 vs 11-1 should be the same record theoretically, but a team that loses week one and goes undefeated will be a top 3 team and a team who loses week 13 will be lucky to be in the top 5
October 3rd, 2021 at 1:53 PM ^
It's the Ole, my win was more recent than your loss, and we look better latter and you are looking worse.
October 3rd, 2021 at 2:02 PM ^
It also might be a close loss early in the season, while your team was still figuring itself out, has less relevance to how they are playing now (and are likely to play next game).
October 3rd, 2021 at 3:49 PM ^
I didn't know the Big East still played football.
October 3rd, 2021 at 5:00 PM ^
It's because Ohio State lost to a good team, and Oregon lost to Stanford. This ranking paradox happens all the time, particularly during this mid-season period when we don't really know the teams.
October 3rd, 2021 at 1:33 PM ^
Hello Top 10. Nice to see you again longtime friend.
October 3rd, 2021 at 1:34 PM ^
Yes, in 2016 and 2018, but he was too young to remember those times
October 3rd, 2021 at 1:35 PM ^
We were #7 at the beginning of the 2019 season also.
October 3rd, 2021 at 1:43 PM ^
Well, share the top 10 part. No need to traumatize a developing mind with how the seasons ended.
October 3rd, 2021 at 1:45 PM ^
We also were #3 going into OSU in 16 and #4 in 18. Also we were #10 in 2015 vs OSU.
I expect us to approach #5 by the MSU game. One of Iowa/Penn St is losing, OU will probably look unimpressive and might drop one. Cincy may also drop one.
UGA and Bama aren’t losing before 10/30. UGA has Florida that day as well.
October 3rd, 2021 at 1:34 PM ^
Oregon should have probably fallen out of the top 10.
Penn St at Iowa next Saturday. I suppose some people will watch that one.
Lots of pretty BIG10 colors in the Top 10.
October 3rd, 2021 at 1:36 PM ^
Why should Oregon be behind OSU? They beat them - convincingly - in Columbus.
October 3rd, 2021 at 2:53 PM ^
Probably because Oregon lost to an unranked team while TOSU lost to a top 10 team.
October 3rd, 2021 at 3:06 PM ^
Because OSU has seemed to regroup and is getting better (maybe? I haven’t watched any of their games), while Oregon struggled with a not good Arizona team until late in the game and followed that up by getting beat by a crappy Stanford team?
October 3rd, 2021 at 9:30 PM ^
This makes Iowa vs Penn State must see TV next week and see how far the loser falls!
October 3rd, 2021 at 1:35 PM ^
I assumed Top Ten, didn’t think it’d be # 8.
But despite the glow it gives, follow what the players apparently keep suggesting: stay on an even keel, get ready for the next one.
October 3rd, 2021 at 1:36 PM ^
5 BIG teams in the Top 11. And two of them are Michigan and Sparty. Wow...
Go Blue!!!
October 3rd, 2021 at 3:11 PM ^
I’m a little surprised by the MSU big jump after not looking all that great against WKU at home…Figured they’d only move up a spot or 2
October 3rd, 2021 at 1:38 PM ^
How does it feel to be 7th in the nation and second in your own state?
October 3rd, 2021 at 1:47 PM ^
I know you ask this tongue in cheek, but based on history, fanbases of Auburn or one of any of the historically strong Florida schools would probably be best able to answer this.
October 3rd, 2021 at 1:44 PM ^
To make this ranking more realistic, it should look like:
1. Alabama
2. Georgia
…
…
…
…
…
3. Pick’em
October 3rd, 2021 at 1:52 PM ^
Pretty much seems like it this year.
October 3rd, 2021 at 1:55 PM ^
I have to correct you. That 3 should be down lower.
October 3rd, 2021 at 4:02 PM ^
So true. Does anyone believe that Iowa is the 3rd best team in the country? I get it, they've had some nice wins with a lot of aid from turnovers. What I'd like to know is how much of that is turnover luck and how much is Iowa's defense. But if the rest of the country is in a Pick'em race for #3...Iowa? Really? hmm...
October 3rd, 2021 at 1:47 PM ^
Serious question, why is there still a coaches poll? It had a purpose pre-BCS but now it's obsolete. They use the AP rankings as the official rankings for Sept/Oct and that hands the baton off to the BCS rankings in Nov.
October 3rd, 2021 at 4:05 PM ^
Tradition.
And SIDs like having a say to contribute to the national narrative.
October 3rd, 2021 at 2:04 PM ^
Honestly, it's a nice number, but it's still too early in the season for rankings to be meaningful.
October 3rd, 2021 at 2:17 PM ^
Osu disagrees this is the part of their season where they are ranked 5-8th and have to blow through 7 weeks of cupcakes to solidify their playoff spot. Its in the script.
October 3rd, 2021 at 2:15 PM ^
UM #9 in AP Poll. Clemson and Texas A&M drop out. WMU among others receiving votes
October 3rd, 2021 at 2:17 PM ^
#9 in the AP poll.
October 3rd, 2021 at 2:19 PM ^
Three teams ranked ahead of Michigan before the Saturday games lost and then fell under Michigan: Oregon, ND and Florida. By default, Michigan is moving up. Michigan also beat the point spread of the Wisconsin game which impresses the pollsters. They also showed the pollsters that their defense is for real.
Old saying applies to our guys: Just win, Baby!
October 3rd, 2021 at 2:21 PM ^
Just for shits and giggles, I compared the preseason top-25 to the current rankings. 10 teams from the preseason top-25 (40%) are no longer ranked. This includes 3 teams in the initial top-10 but not Clemson who is hanging on for dear life at #21. I don't follow rankings that much, so I'm wondering if this is normal turnover or if expectations were based on the results from a flawed 2020 season.
Preseason Current

2. Clemson (21)

Beat Nebraska
October 3rd, 2021 at 2:44 PM ^
Well deserved
beat Cornhuskers
October 3rd, 2021 at 2:59 PM ^
At least one coach doesn’t think much of the Big Ten. The USA Today site indicates Iowa and Penn State’s low rankings were 18 and 20, and our low vote was unranked.
October 3rd, 2021 at 3:51 PM ^
B1G East division has to be the hardest conference in the nation yes? 4 of the top 11 teams and RU and MD aren’t exactly bottom dwellers either…
October 3rd, 2021 at 5:09 PM ^
The Big Ten should take a look at realignment or simply dropping the divisions altogether. We don't have divisions in basketball, so why are they necessary in football?
October 4th, 2021 at 1:33 AM ^
Basketball plays 20 conference games though so it's much easier to play everyone in the conference. Divisions make sense when you don't play 4 or 5 of the other teams.

Nice to have risen to # 8 in early October. Lots of respect for B10 in polls. Fun season so far. Feels like this team really plays together. Loved the jumping yesterday. Beat Nebraska and Go Blue !!
