Coach Howard is 2-0!
There were obviously mistakes but a good win against Creighton. Big ? is going to be able to run a marathon with all this conditioning.

They could not stay in front of X. He looked like an all-American tonight. His feeds to Teske were world class. I love it and find it remarkably surprising when the announcers multiple times said anytime Brooks is looking for a shot is a good thing. DDJ showed his offensive prowess outside and off of the dribble. Livers is basically a hyper-athletic Duncan Robinson; the guy can flat out shoot the rock. Nunez is a sharp-shooter who will retain some role regardless of Wagner’s role. Johns is a piñata waiting to explode on the scene some time this season. Howard is a class act and he has an awesome staff. I am already in love with this team.
November 12th, 2019 at 11:10 PM ^
DDJ finally looked like a college b-ball player. Nunez...can’t guard anyone.
November 13th, 2019 at 8:14 AM ^
DDJ looked fine offensively but his D is still pretty raw. I felt like he was closing out way too aggressively and getting beat off the dribble because of it
November 13th, 2019 at 9:52 AM ^
Agree but I think he was guarding their best shooter the whole game so he wanted to prevent the 3 above all else.
November 13th, 2019 at 10:16 AM ^
People are going to great lengths to be down on DDJ. He looked pretty awesome, and is going to get awesome-r.
November 13th, 2019 at 3:05 PM ^
He looked better/okay--but STILL will never beat out Simpson.
November 14th, 2019 at 6:59 AM ^
I certainly never said he will beat out Simpson, I do think he could end up with the ball many times instead of Simpson. They are far different players.

Congrats, you are now hired as my new Chief Positivity Officer.
No, really, I appreciate reading fun paragraphs like this.
Even if there is a loss mixed in, the team is growin' and gellin', that's cool.
November 13th, 2019 at 8:57 AM ^
Okay...wait...
Does this mean we're a Basketball school again?

November 13th, 2019 at 9:07 AM ^
We are a BASEball school until proven otherwise.
November 13th, 2019 at 10:43 AM ^
"They could not stay in front of X. He looked like an all-American tonight."
Unpossible. There's a PG on the UM women's team who is better. Right?
November 13th, 2019 at 12:02 PM ^
That poster should have to walk around AA naked while we throw rocks at him.
November 13th, 2019 at 2:17 PM ^
Profile pic checks out...

LOVE his demeanor. Calm, poised, confident in his players. Stark difference between the him and the guy in East Lansing!
Great second half adjustments to shut down Ballack! Love the development of the players. DDJ seems to have broken through at last.
Imagine this team with Franz and some of those blue chip recruits!!! Safe to say we got a good coach and recruiter here!
November 12th, 2019 at 8:41 PM ^
It’s interesting because following the App State game I seem to recall people criticizing him for being too calm.
November 12th, 2019 at 8:43 PM ^
I wasn’t one of them. Having a calm head coach helps keep the team calm in strenuous situations. He oozes positivity and confidence. Perfect for this generation of player.
November 12th, 2019 at 8:44 PM ^
I tend to agree and definitely didn’t intend to single you out by any means, just a general observation from some post-game threads last time is all.
November 12th, 2019 at 8:58 PM ^
now that you mention it, he's like Pat Riley. I don't ever recall Riley getting worked up. You can see Riley's influence in his style.
November 12th, 2019 at 10:02 PM ^
You can also see the similarities from Erik Spoelstra on offense.
November 12th, 2019 at 10:03 PM ^
“I don’t ever recall Riley getting worked up.”
Not sure if serious.
November 13th, 2019 at 8:57 AM ^
Yeah, this is obviously someone watching GM Riley and not Coach Riley.
November 13th, 2019 at 11:03 AM ^
Yeah... Pat Riley was the only coach I have ever seen who could turn "apple-red" on the sidelines.
November 12th, 2019 at 8:39 PM ^
I can't help but smile when I watch Juwan glow during interviews. This was his dream and he's living it. Glad he is our coach.
November 12th, 2019 at 8:59 PM ^
Agreed! But also glad that Phil Martellli is here as well!

He’s not Beilein (yet), he’s Juwan. He shares some traits with JB, though. He is earnest, sincere, and looks you in the eyes when he talks. I love his character.

My fifteen-year-old just walked in, glanced at the title of this thread and said: "Wow, good math!"
November 12th, 2019 at 9:02 PM ^
This is the time to teach him a lesson. Tell him to leave the house immediately.
November 12th, 2019 at 8:40 PM ^
Teske doesn’t always look comfortable yet as a post. Very impressed by Howard’s ability to motivate this team to play better
November 12th, 2019 at 8:41 PM ^
Creighton is a top 30ish team so that was actually a very solid win. Our big 3 looked outstanding and it was nice to get some production out of Brooks and DDJ. Defense started to click towards the end of the game. Getting Franz back will definitely be nice and give us more versatility
November 12th, 2019 at 8:59 PM ^
I'm very impressed with Brooks during these two games.
November 13th, 2019 at 3:10 PM ^
To think we could've had a Big 6 this year though...
November 12th, 2019 at 8:42 PM ^
I believe Kenpom had us and Creighton at 31/32 so this could end up being a fairly significant win.
November 12th, 2019 at 8:44 PM ^
I was quite impressed with the team's growth from G1 to G2 and the in-game adjustments made throughout the two halves....CH did a really nice job mixing and matching from big lineup to small and the offensive sets were creative and flexible enough to keep a solid Creighton team off-balance....team definitely took a step forward and I think CH may have changed my mind about my early doubts regarding his hire....I am cautiously optimistic after watching him and the squad perform at a high level tonight....GO BLUE!

That's a dumb acronym.

Lol - that's not an acronym but I appreciate your sense of humor
November 12th, 2019 at 10:28 PM ^
duh chuwan howard
November 12th, 2019 at 8:46 PM ^
They should absolutely crush Elon and Houston Baptist then things get interesting with some tough road games.
@ Iowa State
@ 4 Louisville
I'm pretty excited about this team, seems like they'll play hard for Juwan which is great to see.
November 12th, 2019 at 8:52 PM ^
I’m hoping Juwan is also a great away game coach. We’ll find out soon!
November 12th, 2019 at 9:02 PM ^
how does Louisville still have a basketball team? seriously.
November 12th, 2019 at 9:02 PM ^
They do play hard for him, they seem pretty focused coming out of each timeout
November 12th, 2019 at 9:16 PM ^
Iowa State is the perfect first road test for this time. Excited for that game. Should tell us more about what this team is about. Early returns are great.
Edit: ISU is neutral site, so first road game is @ UL, big yikes
November 12th, 2019 at 9:31 PM ^
Worth mentioning that we're not playing at Iowa State. It's in Atlantis
November 12th, 2019 at 9:40 PM ^
Aquaman has some clams on us!
November 12th, 2019 at 9:40 PM ^
So at U of L first true road game? Ouch, I don’t like that.
November 13th, 2019 at 1:02 PM ^
yeah yikes, earlier comment of isu being a good road game redacted
November 13th, 2019 at 10:01 AM ^
Also depending on whether they win or lose that game they could play UNC or Alabama immediately after.
