Is Chris Partridge HC worthy for UM?

Submitted by DP on December 5th, 2020 at 4:34 PM

I don’t expect Coach Harbaugh to be gone, but curious if Partridge is worthy of the job. Great recruiter. Been a solid coach for the positions he’s been moved to. Finally he is younger, but been in the college ranks for some time.

Too soon? Seems like a guy who will be a HC soon. Would help keep the recruiting classes together since he had some hand in both 2021 and probably 2022

He hasn't even been a solo OC or DC. He's been a special teams coordinator for UM, and is currently a Co-DC of an Ole Miss team doing this (per 247) ...

"The Ole Miss defense, after its first three games, was on pace to produce the worst statistical season in college football history."

"The Rebels are second to last nationally in opponent third down conversion percentage, 121 in first downs allowed, 113 in passing yards allowed, 97 in red zone defense, 117 in rushing defense, 120 in scoring defense, tied for 85th in sacks, tied for 94th in tackles for loss and No. 123 in total defense."

Unfortunately recruiting is part of the job. And when your 2 deep is full of walkons, you aren't recruiting and/or developing for shit. This defensive slide also correlates heavily with the separation from Hoke and Mattison. You're seeing what a Don Brown defense looks like with Don Brown recruits. You'll reply to this with something about BC probably, but that about as relevant as Harbaugh's Stanford success at this point.

To just look at year end stats makes is UNBELIEVABLY foolish and myopic. He has been able to beat up on the teams that are less talented then us holding them to few yards and then we get crushed by the 2 - 3 road games against decent teams and OSU and the average looks good!

With these AWESOME stats, a) how many wins over OSU has this gotten us, b) how many road wins against decent teams has it gotten us, c) how many wins against top 10 teams has it gotten us, d) how many appearances in B1G title games has it gotten us, e) how many bowl wins has it gotten us?  Add all these up and your answer is 1!!!  Tell me who looks foolish now?

So what’s happened? Have any theories?

I have an observation. In the past few seasons coaches have become far more conscious of shielding their faces when talking. This season masks all around(except our coaches but that’s another issue). I know from various solidly respected HS coaches that like it or not, signal stealing and lip reading are a fixture of the trade and have been forever. I’ve sat in film room with 5 HS coaches watching film and heard them talking. Heard them say “Miller is hitching his pants a lot. Here’s the blitz” or little crap like “double wave, bubble coming”. Which taught me how they are watching all the time for tendencies. Sitting in a HS press box with the same binocs as the assistant DC and watching the game. I picked up the other teams coach when he’d say the word “laser” into his mic they’d run the QB quick draw. At one point I (doing stats btw) said loud enough for the asst DC to hear me “DRAW COMING!” and one of the other coaches said “laser?” Like he was asking and I just said yup. I speculate that Brown & his closest staff are masters at anticipating based on similar tendencies. I noticed Urban became religious about using his play sheet to cover his face in 2017. And many coaching staffs have been doing the same. This season with masks everywhere Brown & Co are guessing blind even more than in the previous seasons with depreciating D.

Bring him back as d coordinator. Bring back Jedd Fisch as o.c. And hire Mike Hart for running backs coach.

You are the worst fan ever. I swear you are an OSU or MSU plant.

People like you  and RX are absolutely toxic for the program. You are the people who bashed Carr, reviled Navarre, and tore part Gardner. Just awful.

You expect more from a football of 18-22 than of yourselves. You use football as an outlet to vent  for your repeatedly failings in life. Absolutely loser.

My life is good. Just a passionate fan. You seem ok with just bad football or nothing good from Michigan. No clue why. I expect better. Harbaugh is a dumpster fire and if not a Michigan alum would’ve been fired by now. Lets just watch programs like Indiana, Iowa St, Wisconsin, and Cincy elevate past us with good coaching and way less highly recruited players.

SQ, you a really are a pathetic Harbaugh apologist.  Harbaugh has been an absolute disappointment. Forget living up to fans expectations....his record on the road, as an underdog, against ranked teams, against MSU, against OSU...Harbaugh’s record is inexcusable.  If he were to get fired he will leave the program in worse shape then when he took over.

Yeah I just can’t understand the person defending Harbaugh, the fact that he is one of the most underperforming coaches in the country based on salary.  How many big ten titles?  How many playoff appearances? How many OSU wins?  How many big title game appearances?  Is there anything else that matters? If any of you think that the answer to these questions is acceptable then please hire me as next head coach.

We can talk about this years MSU game too if you want.

Eric Gray got paid to go to Tennessee, I don’t say that often. But that is actually 100% true. As true as Treadwell getting paid in college. Najee Harris on the other hand was so close to coming to Michigan that he was ready to decommit from Alabama and come to Michigan and had a last second change of heart. Harris did not get paid to go to ‘Bama and he’s a much better running back. I would have preferred Harris. Had we had Moore back then as an established coach, Michigan would have brought Harris on board.

Hell, I'd make him DC just on his recruiting ability alone.

Watching IU/Wisc game and IU is making a team that ran all over us look mediocre, what a sad state of affairs Harbaugh has put us in.

No. He’s basically Jeremy Pruitt without being a coordinator at this point (I.e. less accomplished). If that’s what you want, go for it. It’s not working out well for Tennessee at this point.

It wasn’t just recruiting, he had success with everything he managed (recruiting, linebackers, safeties, special teams)

I would be ecstatic to see him brought  back as D coordinator (no matter who is head coach). He seems to have next level leadership and organization skills, which is what I hope we look for in our next set of coaches.

Soemthing like this I think you tell the recruits privately, to give them sense of importance.  Because it's those who you're protecting first.   And then if you don't announce it for awhile, it seems to squash the naysayers.

Well a few things if true:

1) announce it already, not making it public is stupid.

2) Harbaugh better do some soul searching and make changes on his staff, preferably guys who can coach players up and recruit.

3) Harbaugh better snap out of this funk he seems to be in, he comes off like a psychiatric patient on meds, just an observation.
