Did not see that coming.

Told my buddy he was a certain NFLer. I just thought it would be next year.
Mazi will be playing on Sundays also.
January 5th, 2022 at 3:44 PM ^
Fok. True Junior, so this is the earliest possible time he was eligible to go to the NFL.
So will Mazi leave too?
January 5th, 2022 at 4:21 PM ^
Mazi would get picked ahead of him imo.
This one sucks. Hinton is an NFL talent but it’s always frustrating to see these guys leave early before reaching their college potential like Aidan and Ojabo.
I think he was ready to take a big leap next and be a force with Mazi.
January 5th, 2022 at 3:44 PM ^
Oh man. This one will hurt. Need Benny to step up now.
January 5th, 2022 at 3:56 PM ^
Or Jenkins or the many other options.
January 5th, 2022 at 3:45 PM ^
Good luck to him, he was a big part of the successful season.
And a fine illustration of why you always have to be crootin and developin the next guy.
January 5th, 2022 at 5:11 PM ^
No doubt. Every single scholarship matters.
Good for Hinton if he thinks it’s the best time to jump. Hopefully they’re comfortable with current depth bc Harbaugh/Brown let that spot slide a bit. They got solid DT play this year but overall depth hasn’t been great. Plenty of opportunity for youngsters to step up under new coach
January 5th, 2022 at 3:45 PM ^
Wow that’s a hit. Defense is gonna be bad next year. Was definitely banking on the dline to carry them, not so much anymore
January 5th, 2022 at 3:48 PM ^
The defense is not going to be bad next year. Don't be so dramatic. But the DL will definitely have to prove itself. There is talent there but its young an unproven.
January 5th, 2022 at 3:50 PM ^
He's leaving after one good season? His draft stock would be higher next year.
January 5th, 2022 at 4:44 PM ^
Has Michigan had a bad non-pandemic defense under Harbaugh? One year?
January 5th, 2022 at 4:45 PM ^
Unproven does not equal bad. Look at MacDonald. We have a lot of nice pieces who could step up given the opportunity. And some areas will be better (linebacker for example). Relax.
January 5th, 2022 at 5:22 PM ^
Most here also thought we would have a bad defense this year. No one expected players like Hutch, Ojabo, Hawkins, Hinton, Turner and Green to improve as much as they did.
I don't think our defense will be as good as it was this year but I think Mac can get the most of out his players.
January 5th, 2022 at 3:47 PM ^
Big oof. He will be missed!
January 5th, 2022 at 3:48 PM ^
DL is a major question mark next year. A lot of young talent though.
January 5th, 2022 at 3:52 PM ^
Lots of worried people in this thread.
Yes, it stinks losing this guy, but they have been recruiting the position.
Also, Harbaugh has had a good defense every year except for the COVID year, so lets all have some faith.
January 5th, 2022 at 3:48 PM ^
Bummer, wish we had another year with Chris. Good luck to him.
I assume Rayshaun will be the next guy up to take his spot.
January 5th, 2022 at 3:48 PM ^
Seems like it might be a bit early for him to make that jump - can he come back if the draft grade isn't where he wants it?
January 5th, 2022 at 8:35 PM ^
He said he’s declaring for the draft and there’s no turning back after you submit your name for the draft.
January 5th, 2022 at 3:49 PM ^
Wow. That’s a huge shock.
January 5th, 2022 at 3:50 PM ^
That is a very questionable decision.
January 5th, 2022 at 3:50 PM ^
Do they have a period of time where they can still come back or if you declare are you officially gone no matter what? I don’t follow the NFL declarations like the NBA
January 5th, 2022 at 4:39 PM ^
Sorry, tweets are legal contracts.
January 5th, 2022 at 5:27 PM ^
Until you sign with an agent.
January 5th, 2022 at 3:51 PM ^
Umm this is surprising. Might have to hit up the portal for a DT with game experience.
January 5th, 2022 at 3:51 PM ^
That’s what I’m thinking. Cast around a bit and see who might travel.
January 5th, 2022 at 5:58 PM ^
We cannot portal unless grad transfer 98% of the time, because our admissions department has their nose up in the air.
Gonna have to ask Virginia, North Carolina, Northwestern, and Stanford to see if they have an underclassmen who will portal in. Pretty much every other school has no academic standards per our admission staff.
January 5th, 2022 at 3:51 PM ^
Welp, I definitely didn't see that coming, but if he thinks its time then he owes it to himself to go.
Go get paid, Hinton.
January 5th, 2022 at 5:53 PM ^
No way this is financially a better decision. He has a lot of room to grow and earn more guaranteed money.
January 5th, 2022 at 3:52 PM ^
Man… would’ve been nice if it was phrased like he was going to explore his draft stock… this seems more of the certain route. Best of luck to him
January 5th, 2022 at 3:54 PM ^
I thought he had the chance to blow up next year into a potential first rounder, but he seems pretty draftable to me this year too, so good luck to him.
January 5th, 2022 at 6:03 PM ^
DT is not a place most teams put 1st round picks in aside studs like Donald and Suh. Tell me about Hinton v Georgia's DTs. He would maybe work himself into a 4th rounder at best. He is no different than 30 other guys in the country right now in college.
January 5th, 2022 at 3:57 PM ^
Well, we got some nice players in last year's class, and also from 2020 that would hopefully be able to play. And there's at least 2 freshmen who are said to be game ready. I've lost too much sleep worrying about this stuff when it always turns out to be so unpredictable anyway.
January 5th, 2022 at 4:03 PM ^
Yeah if the 2020 defense became a top 10 defense anything can happen. Lets just hope the rest of the coaches stay put.
January 5th, 2022 at 3:57 PM ^
Just waiting for McDonald to Jacksonville thread
January 5th, 2022 at 4:05 PM ^
You'll have to wait another week or so for that one. Mostly kidding.
January 5th, 2022 at 3:58 PM ^
This is surprising, and imo not the best idea on his part. But best of luck to him.
January 5th, 2022 at 3:58 PM ^
I'm taking the optimistic route and thinking that he couldn't hold off Welschof any longer and decided to go to the NFL instead of losing his starting job... yeah that's the ticket!
January 5th, 2022 at 8:11 PM ^
Such a thought crossed my mind. And, his name is Hinton forgodsake.
January 5th, 2022 at 3:59 PM ^
Not great. Definitely not great.
January 5th, 2022 at 4:01 PM ^
Wow that's a kick in the nuts
Here I was thinking the interior of the line was going to be a strength, and edge unproven
But now we'll have to hope Benny steps in, or one of the less heralded guys levels up. Or maybe one of the tweeners bulks up and ascends
January 5th, 2022 at 6:13 PM ^
Yep, and hope Mazi doesn't go, too.
January 5th, 2022 at 4:01 PM ^
Any idea if he'll be leaving with a degree in hand? I don't believe he was an early enrollee, so it would have been tough to manage in 3 years. Best of luck to him. I'm sad his time was so short.
January 5th, 2022 at 4:01 PM ^
Not great but not crippling.
kris Jenkins will step up and we have Rayshaun Benny. Maybe Jeter comes back.
January 5th, 2022 at 4:02 PM ^
Not good for Us, but not sure if it's good for him, either.
January 5th, 2022 at 4:02 PM ^
So this clearly indicates that Oakland is in play for Harbaugh, right?
/s
January 5th, 2022 at 4:03 PM ^
Good for him, probably bad for us. I hope Mazi does not join him.
January 5th, 2022 at 4:04 PM ^
This is the first of the transfer/NFL departures that definitely hurts. Hopefully it's the last and hopefully one of the younger guys or a portal player fills his spot.
