CC: Niners Eliminated from Playoff Contention

Submitted by LS And Play on

I know this might fit into the NFL thread from earlier, but I thought it might warrant its own. Does this change the timeline at all? Is everything still in a holding pattern until after December 28th?

Victors for Harbaugh

Normally I would agree with you, but I was at the Lions-Packers game earlier this year, and the Lions are absolutely a better team. Home field advantage will definitely benefit the Packers, but this is the best chance the Lions have had in a while to end the losing streak in Green Bay.

Yeah Lions (and Seahawks)!

The risk of the 49ers going to the playoffs was always an obstacle to Harbaugh making up his mind and, if they made the playoffs and did well, returning at all if we had a "swim lane" that demanded some viable time for recruiting before signing day.

He doesn't need to pull a Petrino, nor a Saban. He can take an in-between route where he states his intention to resign at the end of the season because he has agreed to become the coach of the University of Michigan. He will be willing to coach the team for the final two games if management desires. They probably will not, so Roman can coach them the rest of the season and Harbaugh and Fanzio can walk. Harbaugh can say "hey, I offered to stay and not bail on the final two games.

Right?

Jim Harbaugh is an awful, terrible coach who you would never want coaching your team. I think it's best you consider someone else for your head coaching position. Really the only wise choice here

Now that the Niners are officially out of the playoff icture, I hope he either resigns oe 49er owner doesn't hod on to Harbaugh...till the bitter end. Why not make all parties happy and let Michigan (Hackett) make his deal with Harbaugh final.........come home Jim...........

Yeah. I have a feeling that the press conference is going to have a thread with 300 replies looking at his body language and his pronounciations of words. You have to know that they'll ask him about his future and what he plans to do.

I don't think this changes anything from the December 28th timeline. Harbaugh does not seem like the type of guy who's going to quite before the season's over, and the 49ers aren't going to fire him.

Publicly, I still think nothing happens until the 28th. Maybe some more stuff starts happening behind the scenes, but he's not going to be like "All right. Since this team is done for the year I'm just gonna leave with two games left in the season. By guys." And management definitely won't fire him, at leats now, because they're going to shop him to other NFL teams while they still can to see what they can get back for him.
