according to my friend steve, I'm the next coach.
December 15th, 2014 at 10:02 PM ^
We better not end up with Schiano. Sigh.
December 15th, 2014 at 10:13 PM ^
the "worst case scenario" is a lot more terrible than Brian or most of the others here assume. A domino effect, whereby Harbaugh turns us down - followed by Miles, Mullen, and Mora all choosing to stay put - would not surprise me. Stoops was never a likely candidate to begin with, nor is Gundy. The admins would turn their noses at Beilema, and Cutcliffe allegedly is already out (and old). Narduzzi is determined to die as Dantonio's DC, so the only thing standing between us and a Schiano/Addazio apocalypse is... Kyle Whittingham?
December 15th, 2014 at 10:21 PM ^
I'd rather have a "Plan B" coach than Schiano et. al, because frankly the 'Plan B' guys are pretty damn good options. That includes (included?) Les.
But suggest anything other than Harbaugh on this board lately and the mouth-breathing idiots will be out in force trying to send you to Bolivia. This place has become a case study in group dynamics over the past couple of days.
I don't want to be waiting for Godot - if there aren't clear indications soon from Harbaugh that he's coming, the AD would be smart to move on.
December 15th, 2014 at 10:27 PM ^
At some point, you have to move on unless harbaugh gives a strong induction that he will sign right after 12/28. Now, since Hackett is keeping this whole thing secret, perhaps jim has in fact given the sign. But, if he has not, then we need to move on. Jim is a great coach, but he is not without down side. There are a number of other great coaches out there - some who we have not discussed - that would do just fine.
December 15th, 2014 at 10:39 PM ^
I'd give JH a week to decide after his last game. He's that good. Saban was hired Jan 2 2007 so that's our target date. We need to move quickly after that and have our plan b hired by about Jan 4.
December 15th, 2014 at 10:40 PM ^
Yes, everybody here wants our old quarterback who happens to be one of--if not the--greatest football coaches in the world to be our next coach, and there's a very realistic chance of that happening.
What's your problem again?
December 15th, 2014 at 10:47 PM ^
Define "very realistic." Everything I have seen indicates it's a possibility, but you are overstating the case.
There's going to be a lot of weeping and gnashing of teeth around here if it doesn't happen.
December 15th, 2014 at 11:00 PM ^
You're right - there will be a ton of pissed off people if it doesn't happen, but waiting on Harbaugh is worth the risk.
December 15th, 2014 at 10:24 PM ^
and retain Nuss as OC. Hoke will be hired as DC.
Some assistants will not be re-hired, such as "Only faster" RB coach.
Hoke will visit all decommits and we get our 16 kids back in one night.
THE END.
December 15th, 2014 at 10:28 PM ^
you managed to come up with a worse scenario than Schiano. And I have Schiano below "crowd-souched coaching via Twitter".
Still better than Addazio though imo
December 15th, 2014 at 10:15 PM ^
While we're on topic of some new news, can someone with a Rival subscription just briefly, with respect to paywalled information, give the main point of what Chris Balas recently posted about Michigan's coaching search? Positive I hear?
December 15th, 2014 at 10:33 PM ^
"Strong 50-50". Whatever that means.
December 15th, 2014 at 10:38 PM ^
Saw a thread on the Scout free board. Balas reporting that there were some big, positive developments regarding JH. Then some guy posting on the Scout board who claims to have connections said that it's a done deal, just working on the numbers. So who knows, but that would go in line with what Brian was reporting over the weekend.
December 15th, 2014 at 11:05 PM ^
Doesn't sound like a threat, sounds pretty f*ckin awesome to me
December 15th, 2014 at 10:53 PM ^
Double post because Chuck Norris cannot be contained to 1 post...
December 16th, 2014 at 9:47 AM ^
That put a big-ass smile on my face. Thank you.
December 15th, 2014 at 10:38 PM ^
There was a big hurdle cleared today with JH. But that's all Ima saying...
December 15th, 2014 at 10:02 PM ^
Wow, not even words? An off the record thing? I don't believe it

Yes, I know that I'm currently the coach at LSU, and we're preparing for a bowl game, but I'm really interested in taking the Michigan job. Just to get the hell away from all you rednecks.
Of course he denies it. Just like every coach in the history of ever does, until the day they take the job.
Non-story.
December 15th, 2014 at 10:02 PM ^
I am 100% ok with this development. Would rather have Mullen or Mora as plan B. Neg away.
December 15th, 2014 at 10:23 PM ^
Even if you would prefer mora or mullein, you still want Les in the mix. Why? Because if Mora and Mullen say no, Mils is way better than addazio.
December 15th, 2014 at 11:02 PM ^
Miles is the second best option and to say otherwise is just plain stupid. The guy has a title and went to second title game.

Les is very 4 years ago. Good coach whose time has passed to do a rebuilding job.
December 15th, 2014 at 10:02 PM ^
That's because.....ITS HAPPENING!!!!!! I think.
December 15th, 2014 at 10:12 PM ^
THIS TOTALLY MEANS THAT HARBAUGH ALREADY SAID YES, YOU GUYS!!
December 16th, 2014 at 2:51 AM ^
actually, if the rampant "Les would never say no to Michigan" speculation was ever true then I would take this as a sign that he has heard through channels that either
A. he was not a serious candidate for the job for whatever reason and wanted to regain some goodwill in Baton Rouge
or
B. That the Michigan job was basically spoken for already.
December 16th, 2014 at 7:07 AM ^
assertion. He did say no, 7 years ago, in what played out as a public shaming of Michigan. Hoping that this quiet thing is because he has been kept in the loop and IT really is happening. That would be classy all around.
December 15th, 2014 at 10:03 PM ^
Leve Storenz says Cam Cameron is taking his place on the depth chart/candidate list.
December 15th, 2014 at 10:03 PM ^
Miles had all media turn off the cameras, etc. before his weekly Monday presser tonight and told them (technically off the record) that he will not be the next coach at Michigan. That's why that update (and the others that will be written) do not include any direct quotes from him.
December 15th, 2014 at 10:05 PM ^
Sure seems like an odd thing to do if you're truly removing yourself as a candidate. Why wouldn't you go on the record saying you're not interested?
December 15th, 2014 at 10:07 PM ^
I can't speak for him, I just wanted to clarify how he approached it. It's definitely peculiar, but peculiar seems to be his style anyways.
December 15th, 2014 at 10:08 PM ^
I think any quote that is in the context of "if I say anything else I will get fired" should be taken with a grain of salt.

If Harbaugh doesn't come we are so screwed.
December 15th, 2014 at 10:05 PM ^
It certainly feels that way
December 16th, 2014 at 12:25 AM ^
I feel the same. Doesn't seem to be any other likley big name options in the mix after Les...
If neither Harbaugh or Les come, and we do not magically pull a big name like Stoops, I would almost be happy with an interim for a year till a big name , proven coach is hired. Hell, I think Tressel will be available then. Go ahead, neg away...
December 15th, 2014 at 10:04 PM ^
Don't believe it. What the hell else is he supposed to say? He knows the coaching search could extend into late December and he has a bowl game. He probably wants people to stop asking questions about it.

This was not the strongest stance he could have taken but it seemed to quell the controversy and still leaves him wiggle room. My fear is that UM made this move, though.
December 15th, 2014 at 10:14 PM ^
Yes, I think this decision is coming more from Michigan than it is coming from Miles.
December 15th, 2014 at 10:26 PM ^
Michigan deserves Schiano or Addazio if they turn down a great coach like Miles for Hoke 2.0. But it's probably much to do about nothing. Who the hell knows what's going on right now? There's a lot of incentive for people to lie about what their true intentions are from the Michigan side, Miles, Harbaugh, Mora, Mullen etc.
December 15th, 2014 at 10:36 PM ^
I hope the hell they are doing it because they already know they have somebody better lined up, and not just for spite.
The problem is, you could be told either one is true and you would have to believe it given our track record.
December 15th, 2014 at 10:05 PM ^
would have been nice as a plan B, but que sera sera. at least we know.
December 15th, 2014 at 10:06 PM ^
Not real until he tells everyone to "have a great day" on live TV.
December 15th, 2014 at 10:07 PM ^
Ok with no Miles. Just don't think he's that good of a coach. Better than Hoke? Doesn't take much. But with the talent he has a lock on in La, he underachieves imo. How many of his players are now stars in the League.
December 15th, 2014 at 10:12 PM ^
Ummmm. Quite a bit.

Do you see who they play every year? Do you see his ring? Do you see his record? Do you see that Bama, FSU, Florida and Texas yank kids from him? There campus and facilities are shit in comparison to the other schools.
December 15th, 2014 at 10:13 PM ^
If reasonable criticisms exist, they are about things off the field.
December 15th, 2014 at 10:22 PM ^
I don't like Les but I'll never call him anything but a very good HC.
December 15th, 2014 at 10:33 PM ^
Or things that grow on the field...
