Maybe Miles never had interest, but even if he did, I don't blame him for withdrawing his candidacy. He doesn't want to be anyone's backup plan. I know I sure as hell wouldn't want to be.

But now the pressure is on for Hackett. If he strikes out on Harbaugh, I'm afraid to find out what a Plan C hire will be. Schiano....ugh.

100% of this seems to be coming from Miles's camp.  I'm sure Michigan is sniffing around, but considering how hard Miles has been politicking for the position until this point, this feels like a "you can't fire me, I quit" response.

Exactly what "politicking"? What evidence do you have of anything of the sort besides a tweet from a parent who said he told a recruit it was "silly talk" and he isn't leaving--which was then twisted by people on this board into everything from a "smokescreen" to a "secret messages" being sent to our feelers that he was interested. At what point will people start paying attention to the actual state of things and need more than their own desires and what they want to hear before making statements as fact?

Because there have been reports here (and other places) that the interest levels between Michigan and Miles are not even, that more talk about Miles going to Michigan has come from his end than from sources at Michigan.

It's well-known that Miles wants to come to Michigan if given the opportunity, and it is equally known that there is a schism at the school surrounding his candidacy.  Yes, Les isn't going to come right out and say "I know I'm coaching at LSU, but man would I like to coach at Michigan" because that never happens, but there has been enough smoke and (seemingly) confirmed communications between Michigan/search committee and Miles to make it more than just whatever "secret messages" you are talking about.  I don't really care about a tweet from a kid, only that all signs seem to point to Miles being an option with enough issues for certain members of the Michigan establishment that he isn't high on the list.

No Idea what this means. Who the hell knows. We will know in a couple of weeks.

I am banking on what Hackett said to the players regarding the timeline.

That Harbaugh is heading for Michigan. This way he can say he was never really interested in the job even though he was dieing to coach here. I feel a bit sorry for him since if Harbaugh would have said NO, he had a good chance of fulfilling his Michigan coaching dream!

My thought is that Hackett called him and told him that we're hiring JH.  This way Les gets to save face before the official announcement is made.

/happy to get JH, but man I really would have liked to see what Les could do at Michigan

to demonstrate the way an AD should conduct a search. When this is all said and done in the coming days/weeks, I believe we will be singing Hackett's praises.

will tell him to give Harbaugh until first week of Jan before chnaging lanes to the next candidate for myriad reasons already discussed on the board. No need to rush it - more important to get this next HC hire right.
