Before you read: if Michigan can't get Harbaugh or Les Miles, dig this-

Aside from being a raving lunatic who parades his cat around the field at spring games, 4 division titles sounds pretty good to me.

67-27 overall record, 39-17 in conference play. He took over in 2008.

Michigan's record since 2008 is 46-42, 24-32 in the B1G with zero B1G titles.

He has 3 bowl wins in 7 years. Michigan has won 3 bowl games in 13 years.

Nebraska has a great history and tradition. But they aren't Michigan and they don't have the appeal that Michigan does in terms of recruiting.

his lipstick resume as HC only looks good on the pig that is M football.

would I have traded the last 7 under RR & Hoke for Pelini? You betcha.

But do I expect better than pelini and his performance as HC from M in the future? hell yes.

For our situation it is interesting that AFTER having gone through a horrible situation after dumping Frank Solich, the Nebraska administration has decided to risk it again. Yes, Nebraska no longer has people quaking in their boots but Pelini did turn around the situation after Bill Callahan.

I am intrigued by your comment that "Nebraska has great history and tradition. But they aren't Michigan..."

Maybe I am misreading your message, but are you suggesting that Nebraska's history / tradition is somehow second to Michigan?! If so, I'd recommend taking of the Maize-colored glasses. No, Nebraska didn't beat up a bunch of teams in the teens and twenties, but they have owned whole decades of football since World War II and have a much better Resume than Michigan in the "modern football era."

Basically a free pass each year against Okie State, Mizzou, Iowa State, Kansas, Colorado, and K-State. Add in 3 cupcakes (as Osborne was wont to do) and you get 9 wins and a major bowl.

Sometimes you beat Oklahoma, sometimes they beat you.

Politic the hell out of the media and you get a fake National Championship like in 1997.

B1G was definitely deeper than the Big 8 from a competition perspective (see 1973 etc.)

Good call on Texas tho.

That makes no sense. In 1973 we didn't play a single ranked team until OSU. Our OOC schedule was Stanford, Navy, and Oregon.

In 1973 the Big 8 had 4 ranked teams to the Big 10's 2.

The Big 8 had Missouri, Colorado, and Oklahoma State that were usually respectable the whole time Osborne was at Nebraska.

The Big 10 had Purdue, Iowa, and MSU that were about on the same level as those schools.

It really wasn't much different.

I think there are 8 programs that can lay claim to best CFB program of all time Texas, Oklahoma, Nebraska, Notre Dame, Michigan, Ohio, Alabama, and USC. Michigan also wasn't just good in the teens and twenties as rival fanbases say. I believe we have 500 of our wins since 1950 and more than 50 percent of our big ten titles since that time.

If and only if we are "desperate in January " still. Otherwise, I think he go over 'like a fart in church' here in Ann Arbor.

fans.

Remember, they even let go of a winning coach who happened to be drunk one night. That MIGHT have changed the course of College Football History.

Pelini likely isn't in my top 7-10 of "realistic" candidates. (Harbaugh, Harbaugh, Mullen, Miles, McElwain, Schiano, Jones, Stoops, probably others in the conversation)

But he's a better coach than Brady Hoke, and hiring Pelini would mean 4 better years in the future than the 4 UM just had.  He's from Ohio, knows the rivalry, etc.

Come on now, Pelini? Really!!! The only way that guy is coming to AA is as Les Miles' DC! I mean really? So we are to the point where we just throw names out there? Why not CC Ron a English while your at it. Ridiculous!

Legit Plan B and a lot better than some (most) of the names being floated around here.  D-oriented like Dantonio, but a helluva lot more likeable.

Not a fan. Seriously, Nebraska was stupid to let him go. But I dont think he's a fit here and won't be considered. Besides, if we consider Bo, Bielema is better.
