Catharsis

Submitted by CLord on
caps key acting up.  let's get back to getting fired up for this program.  it took our brains days to process the data overload that was saturday's  game, but i'm assuming that, like me, you all pooped your last remnants of trauma earlier today and now we all feel great, like we should.

only big picture take away from saturday is that rudock isn't a championship caliber QB.  that puts currently puts our ceiling at flipping coins with the best league teams MSU and OSU.  is that so terrible?

preseason most thought 8-4 was a solid.  now 8-4 will be a disappointment, and w're one fluke play from thinking 9-3 would be a disappointment.  nice.

the future? pass the shades. the best high school QB (eff ratings, watch the kid play he's sick) Brandon Peters coming in, and we lead for a bevy of studs.

we're back.  shore up QB (and what better coach to do just that) and we're back in the NC picture every year.

go DAMN BLUE!

none of this stuff works.  I have tried "we will be sick next year," "it will be a good teaching moment for a young team," "real motivation for rest of the season," "look at where expectations were at the beginning of the season."

None of that stuff works.  It is not supposed to.  It has been a while since Michigan played meaningful football and then we went from zero to College Gameday for Top 10 in-state rival in the blink of an eye.  This is how things can feel when you matter and when your team matters.  It is not going to work to just declare "moving on" and then it won't matter again because of sunshine and lolly pops.  I have "moved on" 50 times in the last three days and the damn play still runs through my mind once a minute.

It is quite possible that this sonobitch is going to sting for a good long while.  That is the "steel" that Harbaugh is referring to.  He knew full well how much of a dong punch this was and that was a very insightful thing to say.  It was the commentary of a person who knew exactly how you feel.

State fans.... whatever man.  I was listening to Jamele Hill on Mike and Mike today and said, literally, that she is "glad" they won like this rather than winning convincingly(!) because it hurts us more.  You can't make this stuff up - and they wonder why the little brother thing sticks.

I'm really not that mad or upset.  There hasn't been one point this season that I have left the home games early or turned the away games off early either.  I seriously feel like I am watching football again and fluke crap like that happens, albeit rare but it does happen.  It feels 1000 times different this year.

Leaving the game Saturday night I was laughing.  Some people took comfort in my laughter, others seemed offended.  I just shook my head and asked my wife, "What else are you supposed to do after THAT?"

There were some Spartan fans leaving the game on Saturday hanging out of the window of the school bus they were riding (it wasn't short if you're keeping score at home).  They were slapping the side of the bus like unfed monkeys yelling - "All we need is Harbaugh ha ha ha. Yeah right, suck it Little Sister."

I smiled at them as they were driving by.  They momentarily stopped, almost confused why a dude in a Michigan shirt would be smiling at them.  It was only a moment before they went back to banging and yelling.  As they did I just laughed.  I think they WANT us to be more upset by this than we are.  I'm guessing that there aren't a whole lot of bragging rights to winning a game like that, just people telling you how "lucky" your team was.  I know most Notre Dame fans I talked to, after they got past the initial jokes, said it was a complete fluke that Michigan State won.

She literally said that? Wow. I cannot imagine Desmond going on a show and saying that. He would say I want to blow out OSU, not MSU. Even that he might not say because he needs to be objective. She proves again why she is not a reporter or analyst, but just like other a** Sparty fans.

that all I really need is a good dose of Ex-Lax, Miralax, or Phillips Milk of Magnesia to get rid of this shitty feeling?  Maybe I just need more fiber in my diet.

I still have rage & would like to punch a Sparty in the face right now.

Since I am a mature adult now tho - I will most likely withhold from that, & boot the wifes cat again a few more times instead.

Actually, one nice catharsis from the game is that, against all odds, it ended up serving as the catalyst for me to finally start blocking people on social media. I don't mean deleting or unfollowing, I mean blocking. We no longer know each other exist, as far as I care. There have always been a lot of people from my hometown I couldn't stand, and yet, because we share a hometown and some mutual friends I've always been cordial in person and, out of some weird 21st Century sense of decorum, accepted their friend requests on Facebook and whatever else, even though I really didn't want to. For the longest time I've gradually thought more and more like, "Man, I really, honestly just don't like this person. Why I am still allowing them to be visible in any way in my life?". Whether it was their sports allegiances or politics or just their vain, cocky brashness, I couldn't stand it but I tolerated because I felt it was the "decent" thing that I was just supposed to do. But really, why? By Sunday afternoon I'd blocked a dozen of the asshats, and I've been on a spree the rest of the week, extending now to people I disliked for reasons that had nothing to do with sports. It feels great. And when I see them at the bar the night before Thanksgiving and they ask why we're not friends on Facebook anymore (and they will, because people are unbelievable douches like that about social media, I'll never understand why), it's just gonna be, "Look dude, I don't know how to say this, but I sincerely just can't fucking stand you." I really can't wait, actually.

We don't care how you've justified Saturday in your own mind.

We don't care how you've rationalized Saturday in your own mind.

We don't care about giving anyone credit where credit is due, any of the five stages of football grief, how you interact with sparty fans, or what you have been pooping for the last 5 days.

All we care about now is how each individual player played and their UFR score, and whether or not what this team is going to do to some gophers in Minneapolis is actually legal in the state of Minnesota.

End rant.

In seven of the sixteen years of the BCS, the final pre-bowl Top 4 included a two-loss team.

Yeah, we need help to win the B1G.  But if you could look into the future and see Michigan as the B1G champ but not be able to see the playoff participants or other teams records, I'd say we would have about a ~1/3 chance of making the playoffs.

When your keyboard stopped responding to the shift key, I think it was trying to tell you that continuing to post was a bad idea.  Next time, take its advice.  It seems like a smart keyboard.

On the other hand, the comments have been superbly entertaining.  I love mgobloggers' humor.
