|23 weeks 1 day ago||This was such a strange year for football||
Nothing - NOTHING! - seemed to work. We couldn't run, our defense seemed to be OK, though not great, Devin was an interception machine for large portions of the year, the coaches were terrified of Devin being an interception machine for (different) large portions of the year and therefore limited Devin, Devin got hurt and couldn't run as well after MSU ...
It goes on, and on, and on. Yet, still, we were 11 points from 11 wins. I ... just ... how???? Other than Gardner, Funchess, Gallon, and a reasonable defense, what kept this team from "Wolverine-quest"?

This inspired me to call up some old friends to reminisce. The energy on campus before that game was unreal. Just an amazing time to be at michigan!

At quarterback, Number 98, #DevinGardner.

If it makes money it must be good?
|36 weeks 3 days ago||Nice write-up!||
One of your best, IMO.
|36 weeks 3 days ago||Wow||
You killed that strawman. Well done.

They are actually imposing and controlling the line.
|36 weeks 5 days ago||UCLA's running offense ...||
It makes me sad. Why can't we have nice things?
|37 weeks 4 days ago||NIU or UCF OCs?||
I don't know much about either, but those teams offenses have probably out-performed michigan's in the B1G. Now I'm sad, but I'd like to hear what folks think of them.

I think watching the game may help the comparison. There has to be an OL still image equivalent to JT Floyd's pass "coverage" against PSU.
|37 weeks 4 days ago||Leaving a second tier head coaching gig||
Is way less burdensome than walking to Ann Arbor from San Diego. I would be willing to chip in to fly him out here (coach class).
More seriously, it's a big time gig with a chance to coach with his son? Also, it may be a pay raise(?)
|37 weeks 4 days ago||How about UTEP's Head Coach?||
Dude knows how to prep an OL, and right now that's all I'd really like to see.
|37 weeks 4 days ago||To be clear:||
That is not even mostly a play calling failure.
That is something much bigger.
There is literally no team I can think of that can do anything on offense when their run game is as crappy as ours. Not OSU, not Baylor, not Oregon - nobody. Seriously, even Lloyd's "bad" ground performances were enough to allow for some balance. And, they mostly had reasonable pass protection.
For my money, I'd fire Funk and Jackson (I hate saying that) before Borges.
|37 weeks 4 days ago||No||
I just won't. If you don't have anything negative to say, you may want to go outside for a bit. Incidentally, it is dark outside. Just how I like it.
|37 weeks 4 days ago||You maybe don't remember ...||
The Akron game.
|37 weeks 4 days ago||LOL||
This guy thinks "seniors" are allowed to play football! That's a riot.
Just an FYI, silly guy, players only have three years of eligibility. That's why Michigan doesn't have any seniors. Some schools with lesser ethical standards break this rule with impunity, even celebrating "Senior Day"(!). Not at Michigan, sir. We are better than that. If we can't beat you with freshmen and sophomores, we just can't beat you.
|37 weeks 4 days ago||Honestly||
The play calling is pretty far down the list of coaching issues. The OL is horrible in the middle and Gardner is always simultaneously terrified of throwing a pick and getting his ribs crushed. The plays would be fine if there were ANY player development.
The offense is the mirror opposite of our defense -it has star players, but it is completely disorganized.
Borges is not unique in needing some production from the running game for his system to work. In fact, I really don't think we want an OC that is really a pass-first guy.
What we need is for some development from our OL. A young OL may be bad - but two straight games with negative rushing yardage suggests a much larger, systematic issue - one that goes way beyond play calling.
In conclusion, FIRE EVERYONE! But for reasons not entirely related to play calling.
|38 weeks 4 days ago||Bra on||
Bra on is the worst. Love bra off though!
|38 weeks 4 days ago||Yeah||
Because Devin Gardner is leaving early for the NFL draft. I mean, the Browns would still pick him in the first round, but no. Devin is coming back.
|38 weeks 4 days ago||Seriously||
|38 weeks 4 days ago||Mattison||
And a coach that can recruit to the level michigan should be able to recruit to. If that doesn't sound like much ... Than who?
|38 weeks 4 days ago||Uhh||
Not only is this a michigan-based college football blog, but it's one you post on constantly.
|38 weeks 4 days ago||Also, that OG is a baby||
It it unusual for O-linemen to play that young. That being said, even with the youth something is seriously wrong with our OL. There is no excuse for being this bad.

|1 year 35 weeks ago||Special Teams||
I live in Ohio so I tend to watch all of OSU's games. Those numbers don't surprise me - much like under Tressel, Ohio's special teams have been a big factor. They tend to pick up a lot of "hidden yards" through solid special teams play, which allows them to be more efficient wiht the yards they do gain. Also, the punt return touchdown against Wisconsin was probably the biggest play of the game.
Honestly, I think the special teams matchup is the biggest of The Game. If we are constantly losing the field position battle by giving up long punt returns or letting punts bounce and roll for 10-20 yards, or if we give up a special teams touchdown, I don't think we can win. We need our special teams to really step it up this game. If Norfleet wants to earn that Legends jersey, he may want to channel his inner-Breaston for this game. Also, most importantly, PUNT COVERAGE PLEASE!!!

Apparently the second half wasn't quite as bad as I remembered it.
|1 year 43 weeks ago||Worst case scenario, in my opinion||
While I can appreciate everyone's point that Staee losing benifits us most due to their being in our division, I think everyone overlooks one large drawback to OSU winning.
My worst case scenario for this season is that Michigan wins the B1G while losing to an OSU team that would have won the B1G if not for their probation. For example, if Michigan wins our division, and the probation division is as bad as it looks (other than OSU), than OSU can claim they "won" the B1G and the only reason Michigan gets the nod is because of their probation. Think of USC last year.
Is this a bit petty? Sure. But I live in Ohio, and getting that smack talk for the year sounds just horrible to me.
In conclusion, go Staee. Gross.

Hated Lloyd Carr.
