Camp Sanderson For The Win - D.J. Wilson is Ripped
Camp Sanderson does it again.
Now THIS looks like a guy who can play in the B1G:
With all credit to @CampSanderson. The offseason is all about progression. From 215 to 238
.. would you expect to see in a space like that?

Am I wrong to think he still looks skinny?

Yeah, I think that he could still hit the bench press a little bit and bang out those pecs. You know, for the celebratory chest bumps after a big defensive play!
This is "ripped" when you get old.
For some guys it is just body type - example: Tayshaun Prince.
240ish is pretty solid for an eventual 4 at his height. But for this year it would probably benefit him to get closer to 245+ to bang inside as he is supposedly going to be a stop gap at 5 for a season at least.

But he's definitely added some muscle and some good weight.
I think Stribling and Ross need to go to Camp Sanderson.
I like this idea...
I think you need to return to RCMB where you belong.

Hard work pays off. Keep up the good work DJ
DJ Wilson is a 4 while Morgan is a 5. DJ doesn't need to get to 250+ to play the 4. 240 would be plenty enough for him to bang with the PF yet can move enough out at the perimeter.
That's DJ Wison's strength which is his ability to shoot the perimeter shot.
I thought Wilson would look bigger at 238 pounds but each person carries weight differently. Maybe the goal is (or should be) 250 pounds for him.

I know many Michigan fans are upset at our lack of size and length in the frontcourt because it has hurt us in rebounding and defense. But the game is changing. Consider that 3 of the 4 teams in the current conference finals are adept at small ball, space the floor, and emphasize 3 point shooting. Phil Jackson isn't happy about basketball adopting Euro ball but the benefits are too difficult to ignore. A traditional back-to-the-basket big who dominates the paint, which is a rare commodity, are no longer necessary for a team to be championship caliber.
In fact, look at the most recent National Championship game. For as much press and praise Jahlil Okafor received, Duke was at its best with a smaller line-up. As surprising at it might seem, Duke played better in some stretches when Okafor was on the bench. And look at the defense 6'7" Amile Jefferson played against 7' National Player of the Year Frank Kaminsky down the stretch.
My insider at practice told me DJ was dominating by the end of the year on the inside and looked like the best player on the team. I guess that was in one on one drills so who knows how that translates to full team ball and of course real games, but it sounds promising.
I stand by my statement that he looks ripped.
He is (and was) never going to be an OMG Shirtless!!! guy, but you can tell from his arms that he has packed on only good weight. His arms have more definition and his chest is more solid than it was before.
He might need to add a bit more weight / muscle, but that photo makes me think that he has the strength necessary to play the Stretch 4 position in Beilein's system.
EDIT: For the sake of comparison, here's how he looked in high school
His upper body is looking good. I'd like to know what kind of strength he's added to his lower body. If he's going to bang around, he needs a solid base.
He's more defined is what you're trying to say...
That's simply not ripped or jacked or shredded...or whatever meathead word people use these days.
Just google "Ripped Muscles" and see if the OP picture belongs on the page. It doesn't.
That's not a bad, thing, no question he's added muscle and he's far more defined...people are just correcting you on using the wrong word. That's all.
Michigan football would have gone 11-1 last year, won the BIG championship, and been one of the four teams playing for the NC.
The problem with Michigan football was never the lack of muscle, but the lack of technique.
On the other hand, Beilein is a master technician and most of his players display a good grasp of the fundamentals. However, he has often recruited less imposing guys (Stauskas and LeVert come to mind immediately) where adding muscle allows their athletic abilities to show through.
DJ simply could not hang in the paint with his high school body. While the added muscle is by no means a guarantee of success, it is a necessity when talking about a B1G post-player. IF DJ is successful, it will be in large part because of the added bulk.
The summer has just yet started. Adding ~25 lbs by now will only go up. Lanky Smoove will be a beast this year if he plays with as much swag as he dresses with
