Bye Week 2021 Plans

Submitted by JeepinBen on October 12th, 2021 at 11:07 AM

Well, its that time of year again. Michigan is 6-0, players can heal up from minor injuries, coaches can recruit and self-scout for the second half of the year, Seth can be a day late on the UFR, Brian can do a whole hoops and hockey podcast, and we can read Six Zero's epic from 2010

What's on everyone's calendar for the bye?

I'm playing a big band gig on Saturday afternoon at Shield's Pizza in Southfield- I'm filling in for a buddy of mine who wants to go see his grandkids. My wife is going to be gone all day playing an orchestra gig, so I'll probably practice the rest of the afternoon, since I've got a recital coming up in November, with about 55 minutes of music on it, and I need to keep cleaning up a few passages in the big concerto on the program.

Anyone who's not giving every ounce of their soul and being to figuring out how to bea(s)t OSU should be fired! That goes for fans, too! Everything that's circular, sibilant, or udder-shaped should be removed from our homes, the campus, and Schembechler Hall! Rinse, repeat.

Feel like I'm starting to do this right. . .

EDIT: Have the kid's last travel soccer matches of the fall in Kissimmee, FL, before the high school season begins. Will be some college coaches there, and she is pumped. Trying to be excited for her.

Just tested positive for covid, so I suppose that's my excuse to isolate at home and watch football all day. Too bad the slate of games isn't all that enticing.

We do a Bye Week Biking (and Beers) get together here with the alumni club, basically just a fun, easy bike ride that starts and ends at a brewery.

Then just a relaxing afternoon, enjoying some college football and maybe catching some Disney fireworks in the evening.

My wife is having surgery on Friday. Wife day is taking a back seat to kids weekend while she recovers. I have a 3 year old and a 1 year old. Please keep me in your thoughts in these trying times.

Michigan Hockey! I have longed for the hockey team to come to Duluth, and they're here this weekend. The bye week is perfectly timed, because attending hockey and cheering for Michigan with my family a mere 10 minutes from my home is the sports priority.

I am way, way excited for this.

My brother has front row seats at Yost this season. I wish I knew how to post pictures to this site.
I’ll be celebrating my son’s 17th birthday this weekend. He’s off to college next year. It struck me that this will be his last birthday with us before he heads off into the real world. The boy is becoming a young man.

Friday night:   Soak in my son's last regular season high school football game.   Playoffs start next week in Wisconsin. I don't know if I can handle the playoff stress after not experiencing it last year.

Saturday:  Escape up north.   Fell a few dead trees on the property.   Split lots of firewood.   Eat a hearty dinner and catch a late college football game on TV.

Sunday:  Rinse and repeat sans college football (no NFL for me these days).

Going to the farmers market in the morning, lunch at our favorite hole in the wall place and then going to an arts festival. Getting a babysitter at night so I can finally have a date night with my wife.

Wrapping up all the outdoor house chores before winter comes in. It'll be nice to have a free Saturday to take a break and get some stuff done. Maybe watch other CFB without having to be stressed about our own game

Normally, watching games during the bye week has the added luxury of no stress.  But this Saturday's slate of games is...woof.

In the B1G, with Michigan, Penn State and OSU off we have...

Army @ Wisconsin

MSU @ Indiana

Nebraska @ Minnesota

Purdue @ Iowa

Rutgers @ Northwestern

None of those games will tell us anything.  And Penix is still most likely out for Indiana.

*The* game of the day will most likely be a surprising 6-0 Kentucky team playing at Georgia but I expect that game to probably be over in the 2nd quarter.

Really a snoozfest of schedule.  If you're out and about, you won't be missing much.

Wife Day Plans:  Fly to rural, Western New Mexico to hike on Saturday-Sunday.  Drive to Albuquerque to pick up friends on Monday.  AirBnB in Taos for the week.  Hiking at 11k+ altitude.  Hoping for snow in Taos, but clear skies in Western NM to see some stars.

The wifeday posts of yesteryear were some of my favorites. Shopping-bag-toting Denard one of the best pics ever. For this year (and reasons) I propose self-care day.

Be good to yourselves, whatever that means, and find the good in all you can.
