I would have been pissed to see this yesterday, but holy god how can a team be this bad.
October 31st, 2010 at 3:12 AM ^
You spelled defense wrong. Our offense is pretty sweet.
October 30th, 2010 at 9:30 PM ^
gas on the fire!
This will end well!
October 30th, 2010 at 9:32 PM ^
So how about that Jim Harbaugh!
October 30th, 2010 at 9:32 PM ^
and asap
October 30th, 2010 at 9:44 PM ^
I wouldn't be upset at getting a new coach, but Harbaugh would be the worst we could get next year. That would require rebuilding the defense AND offense over the next 4 years. They need to get a defensive minded coach and hire an offensive coordinator that runs the spread.
October 30th, 2010 at 9:46 PM ^
is a long-term decision. You don't bring in a new HC just to fit the types of players on the roster (see: last U-M coaching hire). Harbaugh is a very solid college HC, and he's proven it at every turn.
October 30th, 2010 at 10:13 PM ^
My point is that the first thing that Harbaugh would do when he got here is change our offensive philosophy. You are going to have the same attrition that we had when RR came in. When people don't see results for the next 3 years because he has to rebuild our offense and defense, he is going to be in the same hot water that RR was in.
We need to continue building on what we have or we don't have a shot for the next few years.
October 30th, 2010 at 10:59 PM ^
Sure, RR needed specific players, but Harbaugh wouldn't need personnel unlike what we have now. You can run a pro-style offense with an athletic offensive line, receivers and backs that are both large and athletic. As for quarterback, just go with Tate and that's probably all he needs.
Defense is the real problem anyways, and it's more difficult to build a great defense. Plenty of teams throughout the country run an efficient gimmicky offense, but when they play good teams, they see what's happening to us now.
October 31st, 2010 at 12:32 AM ^
It's much more difficult to adapt pro style players to a spread offense than vice versa.
October 30th, 2010 at 9:47 PM ^
This is no time for rational thought!
October 30th, 2010 at 9:50 PM ^
Uh...what defense. We have none...it is one thing to lose to Iowa, but this is beyond pathetic.
October 30th, 2010 at 10:02 PM ^
Meh, Harbaugh is a brilliant coach, I'm less worried about him making lemonade out of the brights spots on our offense. But for the fact that I feel like he'll end up in the pros before too long, he is the best cultural and recruiting fit at least.
October 31st, 2010 at 12:24 AM ^
Agreed there is a bunch of Harbaugh buzz in the NFL right now. I'd be very surprised if he came to Michigan over an NFL offer.
October 31st, 2010 at 1:15 AM ^
I wouldn't.
Firstly, NFL isn't going to be happening next year. So, some team's gonna hire him to do nothing?
Secondly, chance to coach at the alma mater, and if Brandon wanted him he'd throw enough money at him to make it happen. Plus Brandon's a marketing guy. You don't think he could sell Harbaugh on the opportunity to return M to glory?
I don't think this will happen and support RR. But speaking in hypotheticals, Harbaugh taking an opportunity to coach here - if it were offered - wouldn't surprise me. What would surprise me more is the opportunity getting offered to begin with. I think RR will be here a long time.
October 30th, 2010 at 10:39 PM ^
I agree. Pat Fitzgerald would be numero uno on my list.
October 31st, 2010 at 1:12 AM ^
October 31st, 2010 at 10:11 AM ^
I agree. He is the best coach in the BigTen, but we will never get him from his alma-mater. God, can't believe I am saying we can't get the coach from Northwestern.
October 30th, 2010 at 9:32 PM ^
I have defended Rich Rod for a while and gave him opportunity after opporntunity and coming off a bye you look like this. Not only did the defense look very unprepared but the offense just isn't scoring. Everyone points to MSU and Iowa but they got most of those points in desperation time against prevents. At some point it is time to realize a bad investment. Harbaugh, coming to a football field near you.
October 30th, 2010 at 9:36 PM ^
For 2 years I have been given negative points for voicing my opinion about Rich Rodriguez.....I hope this game is the nail in the coffin. Jim Harbaugh is available, we need a Michigan Man now before we become another Nebraska under Bill Callahan, this is a disgrace, and for the 1st time in my life I am disgraced to be a Michigan fan. I never thought I would miss Llyod Carr, but I do...I'd give anything for the Pro-Style Kirk Ferentz style coaching. Please Dave Brandon save us!!!!!
October 30th, 2010 at 9:42 PM ^
why would Jim H. come to Michigan right now with the state of our roster and recruiting?
October 30th, 2010 at 9:44 PM ^
I think people should consider if he is actually willing/able to come before calling for Harbaugh.
October 30th, 2010 at 9:48 PM ^
The U-M HC seat sure doesn't have the luster it did three years ago, but I think Harbaugh would come just for the opportunity to the be the savior of his alma mater. "In U-M's darkest hour, one man rose from the ruins . . . "
October 30th, 2010 at 11:10 PM ^
Brandon won't call unless Harbaugh wants the job. Brnadon won't let another Miles mess transpire.
October 30th, 2010 at 9:46 PM ^
Because it gives him an excuse for the next 3 years.
October 30th, 2010 at 9:52 PM ^
He wants the job bad. The way he was close with Bo and the program. He was always building his resume to be the Michigan coach.
October 31st, 2010 at 12:35 AM ^
Have you ever been to Palo Alto? You could be standing 10 yards outside their stadium and not know there's a game going on.
October 31st, 2010 at 12:58 AM ^
Because he's an arrogant dude who would love nothing more than to be the guy who restored Michigan to being Michigan. I'm not kidding. And I don't mean this in a negative way. It's time for someone to step up and instill confidence in this program. I have thought Rich could really do that, but it's not really happening. The formula's not working, and at this point I think it's a toss up as to whether it's a better idea to stick with Rich or bring in fresh blood. It looks more and more like the Rodriguez experiment may have to be chalked up as a mistake, though...
THAT SAID, there are 4 games to be played, and 2 are potentially winnable. I'm sure DB will look at the entire body of work and make a decision. If we can eek out a bowl game, I think it's worth continuing the experiment for another year.
Another thing to consider regarding the coaching question: I do not want us to fire Rod unless there is a clearcut guy to target. Brandon, IMO, must have a sure-fire guy or 2 in mind that are essentially "can't miss". If not, I have no desire in seeing a 'project' take over. Harbaugh fits the bill, IMO, as a "can't miss guy'".
fortunately, Purdue is still on our schedule.
October 30th, 2010 at 9:57 PM ^
We are already Nebraska under Bill Callahan I am still worried that we might lose Jim Harbaugh to the NFL and a truck load of cash.
October 31st, 2010 at 9:00 AM ^
It's crackheads like you that make times like these so unbearable.
If you've been dogging RR for two years, you deserved every neg you got. RR may not be the right coach for Michigan, but you couldn't have known that two years ago; RR was in his FIRST SEASON as head coach. You were just another idiot afraid of change and mindlessly calling for a "Michigan Man" to take the helm. What a dumb notion: only a "Michigan Man" can lead Michigan's football team to the promised land, and no other man will do. RIIIIIGGGHHHT.
October 30th, 2010 at 9:56 PM ^
The fucked up thing is how can you prepare for PSU? They are starting a fucking walk-on, and has to rely on Royster. Not much to prepare for. It would seem that all you have to do is just show the fuck up. But no, they are treating PSU like they're fucking lepers, and not even trying to tackle. I'm trying to be cool, and trying to hang in there for the coach because I REALLY like him, but this is starting to get out of hand. Getting rid of Schafer was a bad idea.
October 30th, 2010 at 9:32 PM ^
I try and try to be true to RR. I like him, I honestly do, but Good God man! Two weeks to prepare and we get this crap! Against a really bad Penn St. team? Come on! It's getting to the point where I can't keep defending RR.
October 30th, 2010 at 9:36 PM ^
amen, end of RR era.
October 30th, 2010 at 9:38 PM ^
Game over man, game over.
October 30th, 2010 at 9:47 PM ^
I thought we were Michigan fans here, not Rich Rod fans.
October 30th, 2010 at 10:18 PM ^
...a thousand times this...
October 30th, 2010 at 10:26 PM ^
Because you support your team's coach and give him a fair shake.
October 30th, 2010 at 9:35 PM ^
What's different about anything? Why should this all of a sudden be the tipping point? The secondary is still the secondary, and the line minus Mike Martin is no surprise either.
PSU's doing a nice job giving McGloin playcalls that don't let his weaknesses show through, and it helps that he has a running game, and the only reason that's the case is because Martin's out.
To make a long story short: rabble rabble rabble rabSHUT UP.
October 30th, 2010 at 9:38 PM ^
Are we ever going to win a Big 10 game that isn't by a couple points to Indiana? Are we going to hire a DC that gets to run a defense he thinks makes sense? Are we going to coach our players up instead of letting them regress? Are we going to rely entirely on our offense every single game, one that works sometimes against other conferences but not ours? I'm sorry, PSU is terrible this year, and there's no reason to be down to them like this.
October 30th, 2010 at 9:38 PM ^
So you can be a blind optimist but no one else can offer any criticisms? STFU
October 30th, 2010 at 9:40 PM ^
STFU? Apparently I can't be an optimist, Mr. Pot.
October 30th, 2010 at 9:43 PM ^
You really are unsmart. Rabble Rabble Rabble. You can offer that crap up to discount what others say and it's fine? You were being a snarky poo poo head. I am not giving up on the players but I am done with RR and his staff.
Bad words edited so this post doesn't become locked.
October 30th, 2010 at 9:46 PM ^
Whoa, look who's Mr. Sensitive today. Got both guns blazing, I see. Trying for Scott Tenorman of the week?
Nice edit, BTW. Wouldn't want to get caught getting too personal.
October 30th, 2010 at 9:57 PM ^
Apologies but it seemed as though you were insulting anyone who has lost faith and I think that it is a very fair and balanced criticism/thought process at this point.
October 30th, 2010 at 9:47 PM ^
About that name calling. This is the thread warning. I don't care what side you're (all inclusive) on, do it and negbombs/potential temporary ban. Remain civil with responses. Focus hate on something tangible and not ad hominem.

In other words, civil irrationality
