So that's where the term

So that's where the term "Cincinnati Bow-Tie" comes from

If by "suggestive actions" you mean...

It looks like Waldo is giving it to someone then yes.

in all fairness...

he got the part about his university right.  Also, you have to hand it to the kid, admitting he has a problem is a first step in the right direction and it looks like he'll be making better use of his time soon.

It was a good read...

now I'm no grammar or logic genius but did Heiko just tell me that I married an old girlfriend's ex-fiance?

sorry, EcoKat is the cat-ish

sorry, EcoKat is the cat-ish thing.  I was editing my initial misspelling of EcoKat's name.

EDIT - I'm wrong again...EcoKat IS the chick.  Apparently the cat-ish thing is their regular mascot Willie with a special shirt.

So the cat thing I kind of get...

the eco thing is kind of weird, but can someone explain why they have Erin E-surance as Eco-cat's sidekick?

EDIT:  Sorry, that's EcoKat

Maybe our definition of "carrying the team" is different but...

without thinking too hard about it, Niemi, Ward, Thomas, Hextall (though the Flyers ultimately lost the cup that year, I believe he still won playoff MVP), Roy.

I don't have specifics but just remember Osgood also single-handedly losing playoff series.  Every time I think of him I get the impression of him losing 3-1 series leads with soft goals though I admit that was from a long time ago.  Based on this, I don't think he gets HOF.  Maybe not fair but I've always though of Osgood as the worst goalie to ever win the cup and it was more a function of playing behind some HOF blueliners.

Edit - this was in response to teldar's question of goalies carrying their teams to cups...then I read his post again and realized my FAIL as he was asking about goalies carrying their teams to multiple cups...oops

They lost that time too.

They lost that time too.

Trust me

You do not want Kaberle.  He was the best defender in Toronto which was a low bar. Boston got him to help their power play which then got worse.  For most of his time in Boston, a mean look would cause him to turn the puck over.

He was terrible in the other

He was terrible in the other games but playing pretty well in this one and I love seeing him go at Chara.

Yeah, I'm no fan of his but

Yeah, I'm no fan of his but that Kesler bashing was stupid.  He was a beast in the playoffs until he got hurt.   Its like people think he's the only professional athlete ever to talk trash, especially since his play had backed it up to that point.  In my opinion, he single handedly made up for the Sedins totally disappearing in the first two rounds.

I think Boston deserves it

I think Boston deserves it more BUT I hate Tim Thomas.  He’s a sick goalie but he’ll check a guy not known for hitting of any kind (Henrik Sedin...the hit was hilarious though) and then turn around and whine about getting his stick nudged.

Boston’s coach also cried about officiating in the first around (you can’t complain about a penalty if your defenseman shoots the puck over the glass in the D-zone).

And my guess is Luongo will get pulled if it looks like he’s headed toward a bad game, long before a meltdown.

I think the Bs deserve it more because I can’t stand the way Vancouver has played this series.  Boston has victimized the Sedins, shot a puck at Luongo during warm-ups (ok just flipped a puck), practically broke Mason Raymond’s back (I don’t think it was dirty but this is the Stanley Cup and there should have been a reaction) Thomas hit Henrik Sedin all with no reaction from Vancouver.

I like when that guy on Fast

I like when that guy on Fast Money talks about their stock and calls them the Fighting Phoenicians.

So you're saying there's a chance...

Actually, I guess it's more like Tie's saying it via Dougie G.

“I spoke to Tie and his ex-wife Leanne (recently) and their decision is to go elsewhere right now,” Gilmour said. “But this is junior hockey and there could be changes. If he wants to play in this league, it's kind of up to us. I'd love to have him.”

yeah...

I just re-read what I wrote and thought it didn't make sense then watched it again and saw that...at least we don't come off looking as bad as they made the world champions look.

I doubt it...

They show Lionel Messi dismantle a bunch of dudes from Barcelona which, I think, is a Nike team.

I don't know how he was at UM but...

Komisarek sucks now along with the rest of the Leafs' D.  He's another in a decade-long line of bad free-agent signings.

I'm in...

Should be easily doable for early afternoon games in September.

I tried to watch Michigan/Iowa in 2009 at that place beside Jack Astor's on Front (Loose Moose?) but they have a weird TV system that only allows 3 or 4 different channels on throughout the bar at any given time.

The LSU game was already on (I think the other channels had MLB playoffs and a Leafs game) I figured LSU was a random pick and asked for the Michigan game to be put on but several tables of people had requested it.  As luck would have it, by the time the LSU game ended and the TV got switched, all I got to see was Denard's interception and sad pandas.

I'm in the T-dot

Random thoughts on being a Michigan fan in TO...

The problem with seeing people wear college gear here is you don't know if they're a fan or if their name just starts with an M, or an F, or an O.

Also annoying when I'm watching CFB (ND/Stanford) in a bar and it gets switched halfway through for a pre-season hockey game (when we all know the Leafs are going to suck anyway).

I'll never be able to be a TFC fan because their colors are red and grey.

Sports pack on Rogers can't be beat though (30 bucks a month for NFL, NBA, MLB, NHL, NCAA Football & Basketball, Nascar, OHL).

The OP is wrong about the bench press

Fred Jackson cannot bench press as much as Jake Long can, that would be ridiculous.

In truth, Fred Jackson can bench press Jake Long...while Jake Long is bench pressing.

This is going to sound like a cliche...

But its a holistic view of a bunch of stuff like GPA (including to a small extent the school and program), GMAT, extra-curriculars, work experience, interview, your case for why you need an MBA and, specifically a Michigan MBA (though once accepted, all bets are off as far as any plan or case you put on an app)

That said, I'd take the GMAT again to try and get your score up to the mid-600's.  They say the middle 80% gets 650-750 so people do get in with less than 650 but (sorry to say this) you have given yourself a steep, slippery, likely insurmountable, slope to climb (though I don't know how the rest of your candidacy looks).

Is there a site to track this bad boy?

There are rumors the search committee is using it, but I heard from an inside source that the b-school students rented the Bus to someone who is using it to deliver alcohol to Michigan alumni in nearby Big Ten cities.

Well played sir

Just need an analogy relating to liking the effort or the guys playing hard...

HAHA

"...heaping dose of #2"...I just left one in the toilet if you want to go with that one.

Sorry, couldn't resist.

Being vested and caring isn't the same thing

Especially, continuing the corporate analogy, the way a lot of people invest these days as evidenced by things like the "Cramer Effect".  Most Michigan fans, good or bad, know way more about Michigan Football than lot of people know about the companies they buy shares in and fans definitely care more about coach hirings than investors care about execs.

I heard from an inside, nameless source...

...that this is all a grand conspiracy.

Pissed off that fans were unhappy he was averaging 8-9 wins a year, starting the season in the top 10 but finishing it in the 20s, constantly losing to The University of Ohio State University of the State of Ohio and getting blown out every time he went up against USC in the Rose Bowl, Lloyd Carr worked it out with Bill Martin that he, Lloyd, would retire, Martin would hire a coach from some hick town, also retire, they would work from behind the scenes with Braylon Edwards to undermine the new coach by making a kerfuffle about the #1 jersey, slow down the staff’s watches and clocks around Schembechler hall so that they would unknowingly let stretching go a few minutes too long every day, get Greg Robinson fired at ‘Cuse and, while he was down in the dumps, tell him the secret to great defence was rubbing random stuffed animals on players’ faces, convince Mary Sue Coleman to hire a replacement AD with ties to Bo who would perpetuate the Michigan Man Mafia, rely on the fact that the team’s 3 worst defensive seasons would be insurmountable, have the MMM AD fire the hick coach and then hire as the replacement coach...Lloyd Carr.

and the impact...

it also makes the impact of their transfer or injury that much clearer and, probably more painful.

" And my wolf pack... it grew by one. So there... there were two of us in the wolf pack... I was alone first in the pack, and then Doug joined in later. And six months ago, when Doug introduced me to you guys, I thought, "Wait a second, could it be?" And now I know for sure, I just added two more guys to my wolf pack. Four of us wolves, running around the desert together..." either the guy that wrote the Hangover or Zach Galiafinakis 2009

Sorry, just wanted to join in on the wolf pack fun.

Lucky you...

It was like someone sewed my asshole closed and kept feeding me...and feeding me...and feeding me...

Disagree on the competent DC...

I’ll be the first to admit I don’t know that much about coaching football (ie. Pretty much nothing) but, in my uneducated opinion, it seems like NFL success (more focused on calling plays and having elite talent execute…over-simplification, I know), no matter how long ago it was, doesn’t necessarily translate to college (more focused on actually teaching and developing young people).

If you discount his NFL success (I also don’t give him much credit for the Texas NC) then you’re left with his ancient history at UCLA (where he had a year as OC…isn’t there a heuristic about switching sides of the ball?) and the disaster at Syracuse. I guess I’m saying I don’t think there is any evidence that he would be a competent college DC.

Do I get to be...

the big spoon?

I agree...

they definitely said he might have let go of the ball before crossing the line and played the replay but with basically the same shot shown above, they also said that, from that angle, they can't tell if he's crossed the line or not.

Corn?

If you crap undigested corn, is that corn or poop?

Right you are...+1 to you

but google tells me he is David Bruce Banner in the original TV show and Robert Bruce Banner everywhere else.

the Hulk?

or the rapper?

Just don't...

...call us Little Brother ;)

I haven't travelled a lot for work in a while but...

when I used to fly 2-3 times a week, if you bought a multi-leg flight and skipped a leg, it would void your ticket until you re-booked, at which point they'll nail you as you have to pay the fee difference in addition to a change fee.

The reason air fare is drastically different between two airports close to each other is a purely economic one. Detroit is a big, busy airport that most would rather fly through so they have the ability to charge higher fees for gates and other services. Its similar for flights into Midway and O'Hare.

Don't know for sure but...

Seems to me like Miller has a pretty clear view of most of those shots. The US is playing way grittier...two Americans between the last defender and Brodeur on that power play goal, no one trying to move them out of there. Similar situation on the third goal (though Brodeur's impression of a fish flopping around out of water trying to swipe at the puck factored in too)

Canada's game

Something was bothering me about Canada's game and I figured out what it was in that first period. They play like its an NHL all-star game. All of them, from Brodeur out, are trying crap that they would NEVER try in an important NHL game.

Canada's lucky it isn't 4-1 after the first.

Hard to argue with that logic..

and the McGangbang is more fun to say but my preference for gross over-indulgence is the Grand Slam at Wendy's (quad quarter pounder) because instead of wasting gut space with the extra bread and that wimpy chicken patty, you get a full pound of beef.

uhhh...

also true of the most valuable teams in all of sports like the Yankees, Red Sox, Red Wings, Maple Leafs, Manchester United, Real Madrid...

Just sayin'

Based on their first two games...

I think the US will be doing more bruising. Canada's game has been really soft so far with not enough grinding and hitting and too much fancy passing that doesn't go anywhere (for 4 of 6 periods anyway) They're playing the same type of hockey that they played in Turin while the US is playing with a chip on its shoulder.

I think the US wins this one 4-2.

If only I could vote...

I already saw that pic on failblog and I still laughed my ass off when I saw that with your comment.

Lawrence looks like he could be Kimbo Slice's son...if Kimbo mated with a penis.

Since we're letting all things be equal...

as a casual observer and not much of a basketball fan in general, this clearly comes down to the Canadian leaving.

I'm just sayin'

Nuh-uh

Have any of you seen a Canadian university football game? Expanding to Canada won’t work and the fact that Toronto’s football isn’t even good in Ontario makes it less likely. Clearly, if this happened, they would play the American version but I wanted to point out some differences in the games.

1. If you miss a field goal but the ball goes out the back of the end zone, you get 1 point (the beloved Rouge)
2. 3 downs
3. Pass heavy attacks send 2-3 guys in motion simultaneously

When I went to school, there were no athletic scholarships (I heard this may have changed but am not sure) so really good athletes usually go to school in the US. You’d need a base to pay scholarships out of, I don't think the schools will dig into their existing coffers to create one and the concept of boosters is almost non-existent. The football skills left in Canada are appalling...as a comparison, the CFL has top tier Canadian football players and 5th or 6th tier American ones.

And don’t assume Canadian universities have good hockey teams because the really good players go to the minors, the next tier play in the NCAA (Michigan fights other US schools for kids like Tambellini and Cogliano not Canadian ones).

We already get the BTN in Toronto. I’ll bet that half the time I’m the only person in Ontario watching it. ESPN owns a big chunk of our sports network (TSN) and on Saturday afternoons in the fall they show reruns of fishing, a show where they test drive cars (not cool ones, everyday cars like Toyotas and Fords) and Snowtrax (Canada’s most watched snow mobiling show...who knew?). No one goes to Argos games and they had to give away thousands of tickets when the Bills played the Jets here a few weeks ago.

With no money, no facilities, no players this would be more likely to swirl like a toilet than build like a snowball. There’d be a better result from getting a MAC or DII team.

I'm not one to defend Sparty but...

Dantonio already said anyone present would not travel or play in the bowl.

http://espn.go.com/blog/bigten/post/_/id/7823/suspended-spartans-wont-g…

I don't think even Sparty could go back on that. If they did, I'd be shocked and amazed, probably 20% amazed and 80% shocked.
