Who ya got?
I'm taking Boston to steal it on the road.
Even though it goes against all evidence thus far presented in the series, the Bruins are the better team.
Canada waits a little longer for its first cup since 1993.

Dude, look at the front page...
its on the front page already just so you know
its on the front page already just so you know
There's the Tambellini thread, but that's info about a Michigan player. On Brian or the Board's front page, I don't see an open thread. If the other was supposed to be intended to be that, it should be labeled that. I don't see anything wrong with this thread (though I could be missing it too). Other than it could use an "OT", but whatever.
this was a thread about the Michigan Ohio outdoor game (hence the thread save comment by the op)...which of course makes my posts (thanks phone) look stupid
Slick save by the OP. And yes, it all makes sense now.
I guess it's better than just delete It serves a useful purpose now. But no, you weren't wrong.
I just saw it and posted in excitement.
*walks away in shame*
We hate you too.
Boston wins 3-1 on the road. You heard it here first.
heard it somewhere before
If porcelain Luongo lets in a weak one early, this is over. Lots of Canuck injuries, porcelain Luongo and weak psychie + just have to root for original 6 teams.
different on each others ice. If Boston can find a way to elevate their game the way they have in Boston they pull this out.
Vancouver didn't skate yesterday, Boston did, so it should be interesting to watch how the two teams come out in the 1st period tonight.
I would love to see an overtime or 3
I'm rooting for the Canucks. Can't get enough of the Sedins, Bieksa, and Kesler. Hate Luongo though (or should I say Lebrongo).
The Sedins are weird. I'm going with the Bruins for the original six flare. There's just something about Vancouver I don't like.
The amount of people outside of Rogers Arena watching on big screens looks like something out of the World Cup.
Bieksa in red next year!
Too bad I'm a Sabres fan. But we have money to spend too, so maybe I'll see Bieksa in Blue & Yellow.
Ehhh, from what I've been reading Bieksa is looking more like he wants 4yrs/17 million plus. Do you guys have that kind of money to dedicate to one player? I know ownership is more stable now, but I'm not sure. I really enjoyed watching Buffalo a couple of years back when you guys had Briere, Spacek, Tallinder, etc. Fun, fast, young team.
I am praying Boston can pull this one out. I can't stand Vancouver.
I'd like to root for an original six team, but for all I care every Boston sports team can die in a fire, go Nucks.
any other M alumni in the game?
are hunwick or kampfer still with the bruins? i feel like I heard that hunwick was traded to the avs
Kampfer is not playing. Tambellini is on the Cancuks and is in replacing Raymond. He also played in games 1 to 3 of the series.
Canucks the better team so far, but they're a little scared of Thomas. They've shot high/wide a few times, and I suspect they're trying too hard to pick the corners.
And as soon as I say that, Boston has a couple strong shifts. Good end to end action.
I find it impossible to root for a team with a guy named Thornton on it.
who needs to win this more.
On one hand, it would be great for Canada to get a Cup. On the other, I feel its better for the NHL for Boston to win. Canadians will watch hockey no matter what. But winning a Cup might do wonders for Boston in the long run
That said, great moment mullet-sporting "O Canada" singer letting the crowd belt out the middle portion.
If not the Wings, I root for the Canadian teams. It's their national game.
wanted the United States to lose to Ghana last summer.
That's 1-0 Boston
That will make this game a hell of a lot better.
Boston carrying a 1 goal lead into the last ten minutes of the third will make for some excellent, can't-sit-down hockey.
Don't speak too soon about that third period. There's some serious firepower on both sides of this one, I could see it going either way from here.
I don't root for finger biters. Go Bruins.
tambellini seems to be playing well. i've been hearing his name a ton
He was terrible in the other games but playing pretty well in this one and I love seeing him go at Chara.
Chara shaken up - keep an eye on that, because if he is out, that's a huge boon to Vancouver.
Why root for Boston? The only player on Boston that I like is Seguin. Meanwhile, Vancouver has an awesome roster: H Sedin, D Sedin, Kesler, Bieksa, Burrows.
Because I hate all the dirty players on Vancouver. Torres for example
Burrows too. Rome. Fuck Luongo as well. The Sedins are two twats. Kesler is a Buckeye too. Shawn Thornton isn't a douche like this brother either.
Couldn't agree more.
Why root for the Canucks? Kesler is a douche, the Sedins are weird, Erhoff and the rest of the D like to go between being acceptable players and dick hacks. And they have Torres. There is nothing like that on the Bruins.
Is there a live stream link? Please, I am dying.
Wish I could help - no NBC where you are?
It's a long story. Ex GF, favor (not in a good way), at her place... why is it always so hot at women's places?
Ouch. The teams' websites should have radio feeds, don't know anything about video.
Really intense hockey here - good chances for both sides in the opening 5 of the 2nd.
Bielska or Kaberle? Interesting backstory to this one. . . .which one we like better?
You do not want Kaberle. He was the best defender in Toronto which was a low bar. Boston got him to help their power play which then got worse. For most of his time in Boston, a mean look would cause him to turn the puck over.
TK is garbage. Pure and simple awful. He struggled in the playoffs but to to be fair, he's been in Toronto where he hasn't played in many big game situations so he could adjust and learn but for the money he's going to ask for, he's not worth it. Weber is a no go. I'll take a Bieksa, Christian Heroff (sp?) or JoVo (on the cheap for a year or two). Right now it looks like we're going to have to replace Raffy (obviously) on top of Erricsson and Salei. What's the word on Lidstrom? I haven't been able to follow the news as much lately. I understand he's the best player on the team and one of the best d-men of all time (certainly of my generation) but if he's gonna come back (I'd love to have him) I'm hoping for the team's sake he'd take a small paycut. Back when we signed Hull, Robitalle (sp?), etc a lot of the vets on the team like Yzerman took paycuts (pre-cap era!). I'm not saying drop him down to a million or something but if he could open up a couple of million in cap space that'd be great. Looks like Draper and Osgood aren't going to be back either. I'm somewhat fine with that. Maltby clearly needed to go last year--Drapes I didn't mind keep around because he was always clutch on draws. As much as it pains me to see some guys go (somewhat forcibly) we're not a retirement home. As far as replacing D-men, if we only have to replace the three I mentioned above, I'd be fine with one big name signing, bringing Kindl up and giving Smith a chance. Homer is up in the air too. Gonna be an interesting offseason for Wings fans.
How on earth does Vancouver not score there. Good god.
Good job by Bruins' D sacrificing the body.
They're going to add pressure to Vancouver as the game goes on if they can't tie this thing up soon
Wrap around goal Boston up 2-0
2 - 0 Boston. I don't see Vancouver putting 2 past Thomas to come back.
This crowd is about to enter full on Panic Mode. We'll see if Vancouver can play aggressive or panicky from here on out
Vancouver is going to riot either way.
First PP of the game, and Vancouver gets the man advantage. Hope they can get a goal & put some pressure on.
Shortie for Boston. Put a fork in Vancouver, they're done. :(
Incredibly weak goal to let in.
Under review though.
Not a whole lot he can do about that - got run into, but it was his D-man's fault, so no goalie interference. Can't give up a breakaway like that, esp on the PP.
There is nothing he can do about two guys sliding into him and the puck happening to slide in behind them
he could have flicked it away with it.
This game is about to get ugly, and the city of Vancouver is about to get ugly...
Nah. Rioting after a loss is an East Lansing thing.
Nah. Typical west coast city. They're a lot like Seattle. They'll shrug their shoulders and return to their lattes.
That's the strangest goal I've ever seen. Yikes. This one is over.
Reviewed and good goal. Definitely over now. Really glad to see Vancouver lose
LOLuongo strikes again.
Lebrongo. Looks like he won't have to show up for the fourth period either.
3 zip, Bruins lead. Tough night for Luongo, it hasn't so much been bad goals this time; Boston's just plain the better team.
How the hell have you been? How is school going?
Doing quite well. Semester wrapped up pretty favorably, and now I'm on summer break. Took a bit of time off to visit friends & family, and now I am buckling down to some research projects - one on literacy in Late Antiquity, the other a translation thing.
How've you been? I've enjoyed the softball recruiting posts, looks like there's some promising talent there.
myself. Getting ready to start my Master's program and doing the coaching thing. Im trying to get my team ready for the State (Michigan) finals in a few weeks.
I have two more recruiting posts to write but I am so busy. Hutch just keeps on re-loading. The next two kids on the list are studs. I am so looking forward to fall ball.
State finals, eh? Good luck there! Hope your team rolls!
There is another dirty hit
3-0 i love it
Best five-on-five team in the league with terrible special teams and a team that does things like slam someone's head into the stancheon. Keeping the whistles in your pocket for both the game 7s they've been in is not somehow even, it's officiating in favor of Boston. Make no mistake, Vancouver would have lost this game anyway, but still...
Hasn't Vancouver had 3 powerplays?
On at least five or six penalties.
Considering Vancouver deserved about 3 separate penalties on their last powerplay and somehow nothing was called, I don't think you can say that's accurate. The officiating in this series has been brutal, but tonight's been bad for both sides.
I don't know. I think you have to let the boys play in the deciding game
Boston has a lot of guys that are candidates for the Conn Smythe, but I'd be absolutely shocked if Tim Thomas isn't carrying it in about 20 mins from now.
Even if Vancouver had won tonight, he'd have been among the leading candidates. Shutting out game 7, it's a done deal.
Boston will have won titles in all four major sports in the last five years. That's just insane. I'm not sure if that's ever happened before, even in multi-team cities like New York and L.A.
Bill Simmons can never again write an article about long-suffering New Englanders.
Pats 2005, Sox 07, Celtics 08.
The other closest I know is Chicago had done it in a 25 year span (85 Bears, Bulls 90's, Sox 2005, Hawks 2010) Anyone done it closer together?
It makes it a little more impressive to think that Detroit had the Wings and the Pistons win within a 5 year span as well as the Tigers making a World Series.
But for a city with all 4 major sports...this is pretty much an unprecedented run of success.
Oh that's right. I was thinking the Pats' last title was in '07.
New York pulled it off in around 12 years or so from the Jets' Super Bowl to the Islanders' first Stanley Cup in 1980. The Knicks and Yankees/Mets won titles in between then. But even then, obviously, there were some NY area franchises that never won it all.
New York also came close in 1990-96, winning in football (Giants), baseball (Yankees) and hockey (Rangers/Devils), and the Knicks made game 7 of the NBA Finals, but lost.
So if you're going 25 years for Chicago, you can go 21 for New York. But it's not like there can be a long list of cities to accomplish this, because how many towns have a hockey team and the big 3? And how many of those have only had it since the expansion of the last 10-20 years? I mean, over time, even the LIONS made a conference final.
Edit: I forgot the Islanders. So Knicks, then various Mets/Yankees, Islanders, Giants...that makes for maybe 13 years.
What is he going to write about in half his columns now?
Let's not forget that the New England Revolution have reached the MLS Cup Final four times without a single victory to show it. That's at least a year's worth of columns.
Empty netter for Boston to go up4-0
Empty netter for Boston, and you can make it official. Congratulations to Boston, and especially Tim Thomas. He was truly sensational.
According to CBC, Boston will become the first team to win 3 Game 7s during the NHL Playoffs en route to a Stanley Cup Victory. That's nuts.
You have to love the respect hockey fans show the Cup - even when the visiting team locks up the Cup, no one leaves early. You stay & honor the most beautiful trophy in the world.
Wheres that dude with the "canada....americas hat" avitar whem you need him?
PS: i wish this Longo had played in the Olympics
The one thing all hockey fans share: hatred for Bettman.
All the fans are doing is booing. Go Home Sore losers!
They're booing Bettman, not Boston.
They were chanting "Boston Sucks" at the end. They were also booing Tim Thomas. I sadly remember when pit won in joe louis and majority of the people left with their heads down like I would have done.
CBC said the chant was 'Go Canucks Go'. Also note that the only booing that's occurred coincided with when Gary Bettman had a microphone on....And if you aren't compelled to boo Gary Bettman, there may be something seriously wrong with you.
So it must be true.
It is a hockey tradition to boo Gary Bettman because he's awful. It has nothing to do with Boston, trust me.
They chanted Bettman sucks and were still booing Bettman. No disrespect to Boston what so ever
I think it was "Bettman sucks!" not Boston sucks. I did not like Vancouver but I have to give props to the Vancouver fans for emphatically booing Betmann while being respectful to Boston.
Great job Vancouver fans for upholding the tradition of booing Bettman as much as possible.
Agreed and they really took it up a notch. I could barely hear Bettman talk. How cool.
Does the booing of Gary Bettman ever get old?
I'm gonna go ahead and say no.
He also did more pointing during the presentation than Hoke ever has
and Canuck hater (worst fans ever, cheap asshats like Burrows, etc). All I can say is Thank God!
I just watched a guy I knew in high school win the Stanley Cup and the Conn Smythe! I think that's pretty damn cool.
Happy to see Boston win. Would have not wanted Vancouver to win the Cup when they got beat 8-1 and a few other games by 4 goals or so. Really feel for Ryan Kesler. I think he has been the best player on Vancouver this year. Got a Dallas and Boston win. Good ending.
Upset fans start fire in Vancouver. Cars have been flipped over. But they would never boo Boston.
Yeah I saw the rioting video just now on the news. But I can promise you they were not booing or chanting anything tirades Boston it was all directed at Bettman
I heard booing. I heard it loud at Bettman and agree with that. But also heard booing while certain players had the cup. They cheared while Canadians held the cup. It seemed to me that there was more booing going on then just at Bettman. I will say I really don't care that much. The only bad thing about it is after the game is over there was a lot of booing which ruins it for people watching at home. It was an excellent series.
It is so much better to see a team finish off a series at home so the fans are celebrating with the players
haha. And there fans don't deserve it. Go Burn a couch. That will make you feel better.
Bad time to have good parking.
That this thread might have been the greatest reclamation project I've ever seen on MGoBlog. Thank you all who participated in turning it from disastrous to productive.
THE ULTIMATE THREAD SAVE
This is the greatest thing I've felt. This is the best I've felt about a championship. To spend it with my friends, that was the most important thing to me.
Also, fuck Menino, but what a great win!
hahaha why fuck Menino? I mean I agree with you but why?
As a Montreal fan I have always hated Boston but in a series where I hate both teams, I found myself rooting for Boston. Perhaps it was because my late Father (who passed away a year and a half ago) was a Boston fan, I'm not exactly sure. It was strange though, rooting for Boston.
Throughout the playoffs I got to remember why I liked Lucic so much while he played junior hockey. Not just his play on the ice, but his post-game interviews portray him in such a different light than one would expect from watching him play hockey. He was like a big 12 year old and you could see he was really loving what he was doing. Contrast that with what you typically see from pro athletes and it was quite refreshing.
Bar none my favorite part of the playoofs though...Seeing Kesler crying after the final whistle. He is a big reason I can't stand the canucks. He has always been a cheapshot artist and I have never been a fan of that guy.
