OT - K State mascot "EcoKat"

The late great Woody Hayes is generally credited with the famous quote, "There are three things that can happen when you throw a pass, and two of them are bad."

I think that a million things can happen when your school has a mascot, and most of them are bad.

Take the Kansas State Wildcats.  And their new, alternative, "green" (but "Royal Purple") mascot, "EcoKat."  Because whenever I think of college football, I am certainly thinking about renewable energy and recycling.

Blogger and Wisconsin Law Prof Ann Althouse looks at EcoKat (hat tip, apparently, to Instapundit), which is interesting because of all mascots, Bucky Badger may be the one least deserving of execution.  And so her comments page is pretty funny.

Let this be a lesson to you, Mr. Brandon.  Don't do it.  No possible good can come from a Michigan "mascot."  There can be no clearer warning, as to what harm an academic committee can do, than "EcoKat."

K-State is neither in the Big Ten nor an upcoming opponent.

... because it is very relevant to what can happen if Michigan adopts a mascot.  If there were no mascot issue right now at Michigan, this would be OT.  Given the AD's floating of the idea, I'd say it's pretty relevant... and hilarious.

Do Something. If it works, do more of it. If it doesn't, do something else.

Dave Brandon won't be able to help himself. He'll be in his lab designing a mascot that will be the most marketable and all things to all people. Probably a happy faced, multiracial, rapping wolverine with an American flag cape. Yeah I don't know how a wolverine can be multiracial either but Brandon makes the big bucks. He'll find a way.

I feel like I'd be okay with Poochie as a mascot. Sure, he has no relevance to Michigan or a wolverine, but damn he's cool.

And actually, as I think you are talking about the real Kat, it is something that EDSBS noted.  That real K-State Kat is "Willie the Wildcat" (please let there never be an official "Willie Wolverine").  And EDSBS had this wonderful paragraph on the subject:

In the history of this website, please note that the only cease and desist letter we have ever received from anyone came from Kansas State. It concerned an image of Willie the Wildcat, their mascot. Mascot always seemed to be a bit of a stretch here, since Willie is really not even a proper full mascot, but is instead the oversized cat head-shaped golf club cover of your nightmares thrown over the skull of an undergrad with cut biceps wearing a football uniform.

Run a fucking trident through my head please.  I know most schools might/should tilt slighty (that way), but this screams of  all the PC bullshit "my kid is special and should get a soccer trophy just for particpating/let's all finish in a tie for first/all animals are precious and cuddly/cigarette smokers are all evil/and red meat is evil too/you know my shoes are plastic,not leather.   What the fuck,  fuck you fuck me we are all fucking doomed.

I went to KSU. I am enjoying the hell out of this. The media has taken this and raaaaaaaan. The best part is, Ecokat has nothing to do with football or even athletics. It is a campaign (terribly awesome campaign) to announce a "green" competition against the Kansas. Nothing to do with sports at all but every media outlet is acting like they are now the KSU Ecokats.
