Jeff Tambellini Playing Tonight for Canucks

Submitted by Geaux_Blue on

In the wake of Mason Raymond's injury, Tambellini will be bumped to the active roster and will play tonight in Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Finals for Vancouver:

Tambellini, who will play in Game 7 (8 p.m. ET, NBC, CBC, RDS) in place of the injured Mason Raymond, grew up around the Canucks of the 1990s. His father, current Edmonton Oilers GM Steve Tambellini, worked for the organization as the Director of Public and Media Relations, serving in that capacity for the Canucks' run to Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Final in 1994.

"I was at my house with my mom, my dad was in New York, and it was heartbreaking," Tambellini said, recalling his memories of watching the Rangers beat Vancouver in Game 7 of the '94 Final. "It was hard to watch. I remember pulling my hair out. Hopefully we turn that around tonight."

Steve Tambellini can't wait to see his son try.

"I'm so excited for him just to have the opportunity to play for a Stanley Cup in a Game 7. It's an amazing day," Steve Tambellini told NHL.com. "He doesn't need any advice from me. I'm just going to make sure I've got a good seat and enjoy the game."

Aside from Tambellini's connection to Michigan I don't see how anyone here could possibly root for Vancouver.  They are a bunch of biting, flopping, insecure little babies who don't deserve to lift the Cup.

even had a class with that guy, but I still don't see your point.  Yes Tim Thomas is from Michigan.  Ryan Kesler is from much closer (to AA) in Livonia.  As for the US, there are 6 Americans on the Canucks roster and 3 on the Bruins roster.

I was absolutely obsessed with Team USA during the olympics, but to me this doesn't have anything to do with USA vs. Canada.

Kesler, depending on who you talk to, is a bitch.  Also, a Buckeye.  He is a great player, don't get me wrong.

I'm rooting for Boston because as a fan of hockey and want growth in the NHL, major markets need to succeed.  Boston winning the cup will provide a ton of publicity for hockey across the US.  Also, I'm a huge fan of Timmy Thomas as a player and as a person.  It just feels right rooting for Boston.

Alright that is a logical reason to root for Boston and perfectly fine.  I remember there was a thread recently with all this Kesler-bashing though.  I really thought it was dumb, and sounded like a lot of angry people who once played with him but haven't experienced the success or made it as far in their careers.  The guy is an outstanding player, as you said.

Anyway, I am really hoping for a good game (and overtime like I said).  Good luck to the B's then.

Yeah, I'm no fan of his but that Kesler bashing was stupid.  He was a beast in the playoffs until he got hurt.   Its like people think he's the only professional athlete ever to talk trash, especially since his play had backed it up to that point.  In my opinion, he single handedly made up for the Sedins totally disappearing in the first two rounds.

Yeah even if he was healthy from the start I don't think he would have cracked the lineup.  The only defenseman I could see him playing over is Tomas Kaberle, who has been an unmitigated disaster, but Claude Julien is diametrically opposed to giving rookies ice time.  Just ask Tyler Seguin.

Totally agree.  After hearing LuLu's comments on Thomas and watching the Canucks flopping, biting, whining and worst of all the public outcry about unfair officiating by the GM during the first round series with the Blackhawks, I have been actively rooting against Vancouver.  Too bad as I would like to see a Canadian team win the Cup but not this year.

Personally, I would love to see a LuLu meltdown in game 7.  I would also like to see the Bruins win as I think Thomas has really put together a special run.

I think Boston deserves it more BUT I hate Tim Thomas.  He’s a sick goalie but he’ll check a guy not known for hitting of any kind (Henrik Sedin...the hit was hilarious though) and then turn around and whine about getting his stick nudged.

Boston’s coach also cried about officiating in the first around (you can’t complain about a penalty if your defenseman shoots the puck over the glass in the D-zone).

And my guess is Luongo will get pulled if it looks like he’s headed toward a bad game, long before a meltdown.

I think the Bs deserve it more because I can’t stand the way Vancouver has played this series.  Boston has victimized the Sedins, shot a puck at Luongo during warm-ups (ok just flipped a puck), practically broke Mason Raymond’s back (I don’t think it was dirty but this is the Stanley Cup and there should have been a reaction) Thomas hit Henrik Sedin all with no reaction from Vancouver.

I've been a fan of Tim Thomas since elementary school growing up in Vermont, and I'm pretty sure I cried when they lost* to Colorado College in the Frozen Four in '96 (Granted I would have been very very conflicted if they had made it to the final). Here's to a Bruins victory tonight as some amount of consolation!

*I still maintain that the puck went off a CC player's glove into the goal and that game prematurely ended.

I'll be rooting for the Canucks to bring the cup to Canada. Contributing to this is the fact that I can't stand Boston sports fans. Their teams have had enough success. I'll be at the game tonight but I don't have an actual seat (pretty stupid eh) so I watch it on tv in some lounge. If Vancouver wins I doubt I'll be going to sleep tonight because it's gonna be a crazy time!

I don't really care who wins at this point, though the way Vancouver have consistently collapsed in Boston makes it hard to root for them. I love Kelser and the Sedins though, so there. But the whole 'America vs Canada' angle is way overplayed. As someone mentioned, Boston probably has the least number of Americans on any NHL roster. Regardless, every NHL roster is made up of a pretty equal number of Canadians, Americans and Europeans.

the goal differential in Boston has been unreal;
8-1, 4-0, and 5-2 : 17-3 total
While in Vancouver:
1-0, 3-2, and 1-0 : 5-2 total

It reminds me of the 1960 World Series, where the talented Yankees outscored the Pirates 55-27, but lost game 7 in Pittsburgh, 10-9, on Bill Mazeroski's walk-off homer in the ninth inning. The road team did win four of the seven games in that World Series, however.
