Brock Mealer feature in DetNews
Great piece by Angelique on Brock Mealer's recovery from the auto accident that left him partially paralyzed from the wasit down.
My favorite part is short, but succinct:
"He'll walk," Barwis said firmly as a statement of fact, not as a hope or dream"
Anyone else have chills hearing Barwis's voice say that in your head? If this is turned into a movie, only one man can play Mike Barwis: Chuck Norris
I read something about Brock, I get choked up with emotion and anticipation of that day - and I love it. Go Blue! Go Brock!
That will be an epic moment. After reading a few stories and seeing the E:60, and knowing what Brock and Elliott have gone through, I might have a couple tears in my eyes when he walks the team out. And what better motivation and inspiration to crush UConn!?
GO BLUE!
Yup, we'll break two records that day - 109,000+ in the stadium and the most people ever to cry in one place.
Awesome, I also heard Barwis' voice in my head, his voice reminds me of a cross between a really energized and deranged Michael Madsen and maybe a drunk Mickey Rourke. Gotta admit I will be ballin when he leads the team out for UConn
Horseshit. Mike Barwis is going to play Chuck Norris.
...this story is about Brock Mealer, not Mike Barwis.
to play Brock Mealer. Dude was paralyzed, and now walks. You'd have to get, like.... Jesus or something.
"Coming next summer - You know he walked on water. Now see him walk... on a football field. Jesus A. Christ of Nazareth, Son of God is ... Brock Mealer, in:
"Hey! I'm walkin' here!" - The Brock Mealer Miracle Story
Also Staring: Elliot Mealer, Mike Barwis, Rich Rodriguez, Tate Forcier, Unidentified Blur (Thought to be Denard Robinson)
A Spike Jonze joint
What's the "A" stand for? Didn't know Jesus had a middle name.
It always stands for awesome.
Alright, that will now be incorporated with my prayers. "Thank you God for sending Jesus Awesome Christ...."
All this time I didn't even know. Thanks Blazefire for the enlightenment!
tasteless and blasphemous.
I dissagree.
A: I am suggesting that the fact that Brock Mealer can now walk is nothing short of a holy miracle.
B: I am in no way minimizing or mocking Jesus Christ nor his miracles and accomplishments.
So... tasteless? Nope. Blasphemous? Nope.
You lose.
Yup, in no way was it meant as anything other than a positive endorsement of what all parties involved have done.
I mean this with no offense, btu I never understand why people so often find this kind of harmless joking balsphemous and offensive. It is not making fun of any religous figure, but mearly incorporating one into a lighthearted joke. I read it and thought people would be offended, but I still don't necessarily understand why.
edit: Wow, please excuse my spelling errors. Balsphemous? That one is new.
You need to refudiate that one pronto.
Jesus Christ can't hit a curveball???
C'mon Harris let's not start a holy war
Jobu needs a refill!
What's that shit on your chest? Crisco, Bardol, Vagisil anyone will get you another 2 to 3 inch drop on your curveball
There's really no better way to put a game of football in perspective than something like this. Obviously we all want the football team to win, but this is a victory in and of itself. It's stories like these that remind us why we have a football program (besides the money, of course).
I gotta believe this will get the team ridiculously fired up as well, so that's good.
"I can't wait to see him come down that tunnel. There's going to be a few tears in my eyes."
And in everyone else's eyes, too, Coach.
Those who stay ....
I just did a search on the Freep's website, and the only articles about Brock Mealer I could find were in 2008 or early 2009.
To be fair, perhaps the search function is ignoring the long, in-depth articles the Freep has run about Brock's progress and the tremendous assistance and support he's getting from the UM football program.
It could also mean that the Detroit Free Press has entirely ignored the incredible story of Brock's progress over the last year, esp. the last few months. Over that same time period, the Freep devoted many, many hours and many column-inches of text to their "investigation" of RR and the program.
Draw your own conclusions.
(*I agree that the Freep-bashing can get tiresome at times, and I'm as much to blame as anybody else is. However, this appears to be an egregious case of editorializing-by-refusal to cover, and angers me as much as their original "investigation" ever did.)
Or maybe those who might be interviewed for such a story would rather speak to the News staff than some other unidentified alleged journalists who may have lost their trust, for one alleged reason or another.

Pharmaceutical commercials for a living, don't you?
"Draw your own conclusions."
Indeed -- it seems pretty obvious. I hope to hear the whole story on the Freep someday. A guy can hope, anyway.
with enough side effects to be able to play a pharmaceutical writer on sports blogs.
[Notice to Barwis & staff: Read small print given with Cipro (the antibiotic given for Anthrax, but now being given for other things): rupture of Achilles tendon possible up to six months after taking.]

No longer. If this doesn't end up being the most inspirational moment in Michigan Stadium history, it'll have to be top five. I can't imagine the crowd letting the team lose...and after that, I don't think they'll need our help.
Great article by Angelique!
That first Saturday in September is going to be amazing. Tailgating then getting into the stadium and watching the Michigan Marching Band take the field to the cadence, then the Victors, Varsity & the entire Stadium in a a round of Let's Go Blue! . . . Hype Video followed by Brock Mealer leading the team onto the field! Then hopefully followed by a Meeechigan win!
Sounds great...except I would take one word out of that post: "hopefully"
Doesn't belong.
