May his dedication and hard work to what seemed like a "far-fetched" goal be an inspiration to EVERYONE that has a dream that is "out of reach."

I look forward to see him lead our 2010 Wolverines out on the field Sept. 4th.

God Bless ya Brock!  You give hope to us all!

Such a wonderful story. My eyes are a little watery just reading this article, I can only imagine that I'll be crying like a little baby on Saturday. GO BROCK and GO BLUE!!

I'm supposed to watch the game with some friends and family but I honestly would rather watch the game alone at home because:

1. I'll by crying.

2. I'll want to scream, cheer, and curse WAY too loud to be considered a normal person.

I do not have this whole Michigan Football thing in the proper perspective right now.

I heard Michigan had lost their family values...

“You go up to Michigan, and we hate to come home [to Ohio], because you don’t get all that love,” Shelly Mealer said.

Evidently.

That's exactly what I thought of when I read that article - that idiot Boren.

Elliott watched his teammates surround his brother, watched the Michigan family adopt him. It almost overwhelms him.

This is a guy who is currently an OSU (grad) student and we've adopted him as our own.  "No family values" my ass.

I agree with all the above posters on the article, the crying, the Mealers, all of it.  Great story.

I really hope the TV cameras catch Brock and his family walking out.  I would really hate to miss seeing it.  I know it won't be anything like seeing it in person, but I would just like a glimpse of him conquering that task.

"'Oh, my God. Oh, my God,' he told his stunned family. 'God wants me to go to Michigan.'”

My hat goes off to the entire Mealer family, as well as Pete Bigelow for his well-crafted article.

We are getting ready to go to the game Saturday.

Son: "What's this?"

Me: "A great article about Michigan football."

Son: "What's it about?"

Wife: "It's about why Daddy will have tears in his eyes on Saturday right before kickoff."

I had to go ahead and read it at work.

-fighting tears...check

-lump in throat...check

-Urge to destory the state of Conn...check.

I know it's not UCONN's fault but oh well, they shouldn't be playing on the train tracks on Sep 4th.

We're so fortunate to have the Mealer's in the Michigan family.  The entire family, what they've been through, how they've handled it, is an inspiration and a reality check for all of us.

That was a great article.  I had assumed that Brock had chosen working with U-M's strength and conditioning over other alternatives.  I didn't realize that there were NO alternatives--insurance had closed off any rehab options.  That makes it even more poignant, that U-M's athletic staff made it possible for him.

sniffle.

God bless you Brock.  Your incredible heart and dedication to your cause shows what kind of person you are.  Enjoy your moment you deserve it a million times over.  There won't be a dry eye in the stadium.

Seeing as I live several thousand miles from Ann Arbor, I will be relegated to watching the game from my couch.  I'm not sure if ABC/ESPN will broadcast Brock taking the field.

Hopefully mgoblue.com will have a video of the entire pregame ceremonies including Brock's moment.  But will someone please take a video of just those few seconds where the band's block M is split open, the banner is up, and Brock marches out, followed by the team?

I don't know how much we can move them, but figured it was worth a shot....I sent in a note to ESPN to both tell them about this story and ask that they make sure to telecast when Brock leads the team out.

The response wasn't very reassuring, but maybe if everyone deluges them with similar requests...?
