As reported by John Talley & Matt Sentz (SEC reporters)
From @mzenitz and me, per sources: There are COVID-19 issues at Ohio State that have led to discussions about possibly having to push back the national title game to a later date https://t.co/8F7GiP7b7o

It's really unfortunate that Field's broken ribs got COVID and they have to postpone until they're recovered.
January 5th, 2021 at 4:38 PM ^
I think they'll reschedule the game for 4-6 weeks from now, depending on how PT goes.
January 5th, 2021 at 5:27 PM ^
It also increases the possibility of Jalen Waddle playing.
January 5th, 2021 at 5:52 PM ^
nah. just call it a shared title and call it a day.
January 5th, 2021 at 6:05 PM ^
Fuck that. I wanna see The Tide roll the hairless nuts.
January 5th, 2021 at 6:19 PM ^
Field's broken ribs
Yeah... I don't want to hear anyone from Columbus saying Michigan ducked Ohio State this year anymore.
January 5th, 2021 at 8:51 PM ^
You win.
January 5th, 2021 at 4:01 PM ^
They’re just trying to duck Bama, I bet.
January 5th, 2021 at 4:04 PM ^
Granted we're a bit further north but here in Cleveland we've got NINE players/coaches (including our HC Stefanski) out for the game against the Steelers with Covid so Ohio in general is no box of Covid chocolates right now.
January 5th, 2021 at 5:30 PM ^
Or it's TOTALLY a box of COVID chocolates right now.
January 5th, 2021 at 4:02 PM ^
OSU clearly ducking Bama!
January 5th, 2021 at 4:32 PM ^
They are just possibly moving the game to the 18th, right?
January 5th, 2021 at 4:02 PM ^
They've ducked half their schedule so far. Why not duck Bama too?
January 5th, 2021 at 4:33 PM ^
I'm not sure Michigan and Mayland canceling counts as ducking their schedule but okay...
January 5th, 2021 at 4:37 PM ^
We get it, you are a buckeye troll, but seemingly every year OSU has one WTF game (at Purdue, at Iowa, etc.) and the best way to not have one of those, is to not play the games. One loss may have knocked them out of the playoffs.
January 5th, 2021 at 4:40 PM ^
Ok, everything is an Ohio State conspiracy and people don't look stupid at all when they come up with moronic theories based in nothing.
There, does that make you feel better?
January 5th, 2021 at 4:42 PM ^
It’s totally normal for a guy to just randomly get mad at every post in a thread poking fun at OSU. That’s not weird at all.
January 5th, 2021 at 6:44 PM ^
Why would an OSU fan come to a rival blog and masquerade as a Michigan fan when you have it all? Very sociopathic. GTFO of here, and go back to 11W. Now you can brag how you were able to totally troll us for months and fooled us all, NO ONE suspected a thing and you are so clever! You just got bored and stopped posting because we are so lame. You will be a hero among douchebags. Kinda like being the smartest pathetic douchebag in the Pathetic Douchebag Club (PDC). Eat a bag of dicks. And pass the bag around among the PDC, let them eat some dicks too.
January 5th, 2021 at 6:45 PM ^
Double post!
January 5th, 2021 at 4:46 PM ^
Agree with the one WTF game.
Also, I hadn't put it all together until now...he is an OSU troll. It all makes sense now right down to the avatar.
January 5th, 2021 at 4:58 PM ^
i think the bigger question is who did s/he used to be, or which alternate account would they claim?
January 5th, 2021 at 7:13 PM ^
And definitely not masquerading as a Michigan fan.
January 6th, 2021 at 8:31 AM ^
What does your comment have to do with the questions the other poster asked? How is it OSU's fault that Michigan and Maryland canceled games on them? There is no answer, so shout troll and continue digging.
January 5th, 2021 at 4:03 PM ^
Those mother duckers!
January 5th, 2021 at 4:03 PM ^
Again: Those mother duckers!
January 5th, 2021 at 4:03 PM ^
Postpone? Cancel at this point.
January 5th, 2021 at 4:39 PM ^
Nah, play on with what you’ve got left. Only a walk-on available at left tackle? Tough.
January 5th, 2021 at 4:05 PM ^
Plenty of time for those ribs to heal. Very smart of OSU. Herbie will commend OSU for this move.
January 5th, 2021 at 4:35 PM ^
I don't think his ribs are broken. Besides, an extra 10 days would hardly matter if they were.
January 5th, 2021 at 4:06 PM ^
They should either play on the scheduled day or forfeit. Obviously trying to postpone until Fields if more healthy. What a joke.
January 5th, 2021 at 4:37 PM ^
Ohio State had no say in the matter. The CFB Playoff committee set the rule before the playoffs that any Covid with either team would delay the game.
January 5th, 2021 at 4:40 PM ^
Yes, because rules set before everything starts are always followed...
January 5th, 2021 at 7:42 PM ^
Source?
January 5th, 2021 at 4:06 PM ^
Eh, they will play. This is them building an excuse in the event they lose. "We lost critical practice time and we soldiered through it." The ESPN schmucks will prop them up and aggrandize them for no good reason.
January 5th, 2021 at 4:08 PM ^
Looking forward to reading Herbstreit's entirely unbiased comments on this situation...
January 5th, 2021 at 4:10 PM ^
The best part was in his phony apology when he boasted multiple times about how good he is at remaining unbiased
January 5th, 2021 at 4:27 PM ^
He will insinuate that this story was planted by Alabama to make OSU look bad - then “apologize” to Bama.
January 5th, 2021 at 4:09 PM ^
I am sure saban will give them all the time they need to recover and play whenever they feel ready. I am sure his players will understand if they just need to keep practicing every day not knowing exactly when that national championship game is going to happen.
January 5th, 2021 at 4:10 PM ^
I saw this rumor last night and I wondered if it was genuinely true.
My immediate, unfiltered reaction: "F 'em!"
Either forfeit or play with what you have.
Bama seems to be preparing well to play the game on time. For once, Ohio State should face the consequences of its own problems.
ETA:
If any Ohio State fan blames Clemson, know the following:
Pre-OSU, Clemson played 11 games against 10 different opponents.
Did any of those opponents have an outbreak after playing Clemson? Only 1 (Pitt) did. (I just looked it up.)
Don't let OSU fans blame Clemson. F OSU.
January 5th, 2021 at 7:37 PM ^
It's not like Ohio is doing great at social distancing and wearing masks.
Frankly, I'm not surprised by this news or the Browns news at all.
January 5th, 2021 at 4:10 PM ^
I guess this is a fitting end to the season.
Do they have more guys out than the 20 they had for Northwestern, or are these ones just more important?
January 5th, 2021 at 4:11 PM ^
Play it how it lies, OSU!
January 5th, 2021 at 4:13 PM ^
I'd shut things down too if I had a syphilis outbreak
January 5th, 2021 at 6:40 PM ^
+1 responsible
January 5th, 2021 at 4:13 PM ^
Yeah, wouldn't want anyone to miss the nail biting suspense.
Which of the recycled 3 teams will win it all?
Consolidation is the last stage of the death of an industry.
January 5th, 2021 at 4:15 PM ^
One more week of practice for Jaylen Waddle! Careful what you wish for OSU.
Smith and Waddle on the field at the same time is just sick.
January 5th, 2021 at 4:17 PM ^
Season's going great?
January 5th, 2021 at 4:23 PM ^
So the team that has done a better job of not having a break-out has to wait while the undisciplined one gets ANOTHER rules adjustment to solve their COVID/rib issues.
At what point does that program ever have to learn about real-world consequences for bad decisions?
January 5th, 2021 at 10:33 PM ^
*checks notes going back 60 years*
Uhhh. Never.
