Braxton Miller Reportedly Out For 2014. (multiple outlets confirm)
All of Ohio right now...
Braxton: "Coach.. I'm not feeling great, think I need to sit out."
Urbz: "Wait... I have an idea. I saw it in a movie.. errr a dream I had once."
I had this same thought in my head last night lol
As the first thread was based on a tweet, but now there is confirmation literally everywhere (except perhaps among those among the OSU faithful who may not yet know, so the one dude), we'll let this thread serve as the primary outlet for news on Braxton Miller's injury. It's a fuzzy line on the blog really, but it is big news and probably wasn't going to ever be contained in a single thread. This thread, however, shall stand as the last one for now to ensure there is room for other news.
Gil Brandt had and was posted in another thread. It's no more official than the Gil Brandt tweet.
Probably, but I figured, like the OP, that now that journalists are citing sources saying he's out for the season as opposed to "out indefinitely" or "out for an extended period of time" I figured it was probably relevant to link.
He seems awfully proud of a loaner car.
Officially? The first word of the link is "Report:"
As ESPN and Eleven Warriors have cred, it still should say "Reportedly" and not officially.
On a serious note...I feel terrible for the kid.
Feel bad for Braxton, but karma can be a bitch, Urbs.
The SI Jinx - it really works
Yeah, he was on the cover the week before they lost the B10 title game, too.
Can we get Dantonio and Narduzzi on that cover asap?
I'm encouraged for Michigan's chances this season. And I'm pleased that OSU may have a down year.
But I feel really bad for Braxton. That truly sucks. Hope he makes a full recovery.
They should stop worrying about B1G play and....
As someone who lives near Annapolis (and thus root for the Middies every chance I can get), the Goat should indeed be feared. Coach Niumatalolo has been on a tear since he took over; 4 Commander-In-Chief trophies, 5 bowls (two wins), 2 leprechaun scalps (Haha!), including at ND for the first time in a billion years.
And oh yes, extending the Navy winning streak against Army to 12 games.
Sadly, they are probably still overmatched at 20 or so of the 22 positions.
I realize this is probably happening, but it isn't "official" until OSU releases a statement. People keep saying "official", when it really isn't. I know I'm splitting hairs here, but still. You may want to edit the title.
...do you mean that literally?
Can LeBron play QB???
yes, he prefers to distribute the ball or so they say.
and the Browns will send Johnny Football to the "minors" for some seasoning
Spoken in the words of the great Matt Millen.
Family time excuse
It took 14 posts on 11W before a non mod wished Braxton well and a speedy recovery.
site - ever - what is the general douchebaggery going on over there?
I was only on there for about 30 seconds. A lot of next man up type stuff. That was the first and probably last time I'll venture on over there.
Did you hear that Braxton Miller, the starting quarterback for Ohio State University's football team, hurt his shoulder and might be out for the season? This seems like it could have an effect on our football team here at the University of Michigan. Does anyone want to speculate about it on this site with me?
This actually maybe puts more pressure on UM to win this season because what would it be like if we didn't........?
4 OL, Hyde, Miller...RS FR QB will be relying on a lot of unproven dudes...GMatt will need to unleash the hounds.
Ohio could really struggle this year. Teams that play them early may get more advantage.
Quote of the day from r/cfb:
(OSU fan) Still nothing from Eleven Warriors...
(Michigan fan) They are busy renaming it Ten Warriors.
Given the state of the Fort and the number of times Hoke says someone has a boo-boo, can we really criticize Meyer for being less than forthcoming on the injury status of his starting QB during the offseason?
I probably haven't read every comment, but I haven't seen any.
But I agree with you, he doesn't have to say anything. Maybe they're getting second opinions or Miller's family asked him not to or any number of things.
It seemed to me that the op was criticizing Meyer with his comment about Meyer lying for months. Maybe I'm overanalyzing that sentence, though.
it's only requiring final certification from that official source. Look, if there was better news, it would have been made public this morning. When that didn't happen, you knew it was season-ending and who knows, potentially worse. The fan base was already bracing for the worse. But even the blog knew that the staff was hiding the real deal information on Miller's status and actual condition.
I mean this was insinuated in every account about Miller's health in that blog. So Meyer is going to have to fess up for that at some point because questions are going to be raised about it.
...says he's back for The Game.
Braxton and Urb just trollin us.
If he is back for The Game, hopefully he experiences the same level of success that Henne did against OSU when his arm was barely attached. I don't recall a lot of sympathy from OSU fans about his injury.
I do feel bad for Braxton, as he is a talented player and this seems like it could affect his pro career. Wit that being said, immediately before I saw the first report on this story, I had just finished reading the comments to the 11W preview of Michigan. After reading those comments, I was thinking to myself that the OSU faithful were pretty cocky considering that they are one hit away from having to start a freshman or having Cardale "play school" Jones be their starter (not to mention their own issues with inexperience at OL, RB, LB, CB, etc.). I guess Urban will have to earn his money this year (albeit against a pretty terrible schedule).
Have you read the crap they say about us on 11 W's? O HOW I HATE OHIO!
I don't think anyone genuinely wishes anything bad on Braxton, but those Buckeyes can go to hell. If this were one of our important players, 11 warriors would be sipping bubbly and cheesing.
You're right. I live in Ohio, and usually have to just roll my eyes at some of the comments I hear. One of my facebook friends actually said OSU just got an upgrade at the QB position with Miller being out.
An upgrade? Lol wut
I was just cruising around 11W for some laughs and found this gem:
TWENTY TOUCHDOWNS? Tell me he's trolling...
If so, ~20 combined TDs is like 1.7 or so a game, which when considering OSU's SOS & Offensive style isn't much of a stretch (especially if he's good enough to consistently play over Cardale.
He's talking about the Elliot RB kid. Not the QB.
And keep in mind, Hyde had 18 total TDs last year. 20 is not happening for their new RB with 4 new OL.
Didn't Hyde miss games at the beginning of the season? He would have surely had much more but I get your point.
Are typically a pretty filthy bunch. I feel bad for the kid though.
Do we really want to gauge our reaction to Braxton's unfortunate injury based upon what the folks at 11W say about us? I sure hope not. I don't wish injury upon anyone. We're talking about a game here. Hopefully this young man will heal up and be able to continue playing football someday.
OSU fans would not feel bad for us, so I refuse to feel bad for them. And honestly, I'm not going to sit here and play that "damn, I wish he was healthy so we could beat them full strength" card. No, Michigan is in the unfortunate position right now where it has to take any win against OSU that it can get. If this helps us even the playing field, I'm fine with that, especially considering the fact that we have to go to Columbus this year. We desperately need to beat them to get some momentum in this program back. However we do it is honestly irrelevant at this point. I'll happily take a win over Cardale "Don't Play No School" Jones.
That being said, I do feel a little bad for Miller, simply because I hope this doesn't completely destroy his chance at getting to the NFL. Even if his passing ability is barely a step above Denard, he still will hopefully get a shot. I will not miss him being in an OSU uniform one bit though. Trying to chase that kid down had to have been a nightmare for our defense, and he was several overthrown passes away from beating us in 2011 and being 3-0 against us.
I agree with you. As a football fan I feel bad for him especially as a senior. I don't wish a season ending injury in anybody. But as a Michigan fan I won't shed a tear if we don't have to see him this year. You didn't see any Buckeye fans feeling bad for us in 2008 when we had Nick Sheridan as a QB so I'm not going to feel bad for them now. A win is a win!
Does Cardale "we ain't come to play SCHOOL" Jones start now?
Speedy recovery young man. And the best in life. Take care of you family.
This is a crappy situation even if it is OSU. Never want to see a star QB and a possible Heisman candidate go down even before the season starts. Here's to a speedy recovery.
Something tells me Urban starts experiencing "health issues" in the near future.
I honestly do not care about anybody's feelings in regard to Miller. I know the customary thing when somebody gets hurt on an opposing team is to pretend you are actually taking time out of your day to literally feel bad, but you're not so lets just move past that. The moral high ground approach is so you can say "see, I said the classy thing, give me credit as a great person!" It's completely self-serving. Almost everyone here is happy to see he is out for the year, even if they won't say it.
Now, let's get a breakdown going of how this effects Ohio's season, shall we?
Before losing Miller
- Navy: No way they lose (1-0)
- VT: I'm not too sure of how VT is, but they aren't elite, so OSU wins (2-0)
- Kent State: No way they lose (3-0)
- Cinncinnati: Can Cincy be the Dayton of Football; no. (4-0)
- Maryland: Lol. (5-0)
- Rutgers: See above. (6-0)
- Penn State: I think OSU has a real chance of losing this game, assuming PSU is good. However, I'll give them the benefit of the doubt. Let's say a 4th quarter comeback (7-0)
- Illinois: OSU wins, but looks a bit shakey (8-0)
- MSU: MSU sets a new record for most negative yards on an opponent. (8-1)
- Minnesota: OSU wins in decisive fashion. (9-1)
- Indiana: Always a tricky team, it's the week before the game, but OSU holds. (10-1)
- THE GAME: We win, obviously. In a performance worthy of Bo himself, the defense hold on for a 21-20 win. (10-2)
- Navy: just got interesting. OSU still favored to win, but I wouldn't count out some weirdness. I'll call the win, so (1-0)
- VT: whether OSU is favored or not will depend on a lot of things, namely what happens week one, but I'm calling an OSU loss, so let's say (1-1)
- Kent State: No way they lose (2-1)
- Cinncinnati: Another we'll see, depending on what's been happening, but I'll say 75% chance of an OSU win right now (I have no idea how good Cincy will be). (3-1)
- Maryland: I see this being a win for OSU. Not gonna lie, I'd love to see OSU get embarrassed at Maryland, but I'll assume they're as bad as we think they are. (4-1)
- Rutgers: See above. (5-1)
- Penn State: Yeah, this is when the wheels fall off and the tire fire begins. The QB controversy rears its ugly head, and James Franklin puts a beating on OSU. Am I bitter about losing to PSU last year? How could you tell? (5-2)
- Illinois: OSU wins, but requires a 4th quarter comeback (6-2)
- MSU: MSU sets a new record for most negative yards on an opponent. (6-3)
- Minnesota: While I think it'd be crazy for OSU to lose to Minnesota, I don't think it's impossible. Given what I think happens the next game, I'll give this to OSU. (7-3)
- Indiana: Always a tricky team, it's the week before the game, and OSU drops. (7-4)
- THE GAME: We win, obviously. We're having a stellar year, and due to my theory that beating App. State removes the Curse of Carr, we are...UNDEFEATED. Roll into the Shoe and rip OSU apart like they're being coached by Cooper. (7-5)
So that's how I unrealistically see things shaking out (ok I basically turned OSU into us from last year...)
I do think that a 3-4 loss OSU is expected Now (5 is a bit ridiculous IMO). For me I dropped OSU from a 1-2 loss team to a 3-4 loss team. A lot of that comes from their relatively easy schedule They lose 3-4 from the following:
You left out the part about Devin Gardner, Derrick Green, and Jabrill Peppers going 1-2-3 in the Heisman voting. And President Obama signing an executive order ordering the dismantlement of the Ohio State University football program.
Lol. I'm sure it takes time out of your day to feel bad for someone. If you hear the news of something like this, unless you are a robot and can't feel anything, then you are going to have some reaction to it. Whether it's "wow, that sucks, I hope he gets better soon" or "fuck that guy, I don't care," you are feeling something either way. One of those makes you kind of a prick and the other doesn't. You don't have to want praise to be, you know, a normal human being who doesn't like to see people suffer or be in pain.
Any chance we can trade them a QB for a lineman or two?
Their line has as much experience as ours.
Make no mistake -- it'll still be VERY tough for us to win there...but damn. 2000 was a long, long time ago.
It's Devin. I mean, he's only a fifth year senior. It's like not like you should be spelling his name correctly or anything.
Cardale Jones is a redshirt sophomore this year? I thought Rich Rod was recruiting him. That would make him a redshirt junior this year right?
We have 3 scholarship QBs if the worst comes to worst. One is a true freshman but enrolled early so at least has a grasp of the playbook. Also Cardale Jones is a beefier version of Devin Gardner, which I think makes him indestructible.
Official press release from tOSU....he out for year. Sucks for a player but great for us and anyone else who hates the taint!!
And the only reason I say that is that on a panel of four just now on ESPN, Matt fuckin' Millen was the only one who said that he thinks OSU still has a legit shot at a national championship. So...sorry, Buckeye fans. That asshole windbag is never right about anything.
Now Ohio isn't a lock against Va Tech, Cincy, PSU, or even Minny, let alone Michigan. They never were a lock against Sparty, but only because we don't know how much Sparty will suffer from all of their graduation losses.
I wonder how "critical" Urban's health is going to be if they lose four games or so...
Hey, for us, that'd be a banner year.
That will make for an interesting dynamic if their backup has a good year. How do you hand it back over to Miller?
From the rumors I've read before this Barret has been taking the majority of snaps in practice anyways. Unless he is a total clusterfuck of a QB they should be fine. The only thing they will be missing is the game time experience. Even then they have six cupcake teams, and two near cupcake teams. Plenty of time for him to settle into urbz system.
Here's motivation to get healed up right and play again in college, from the ESPN article:
Starting as a freshman, Miller has thrown 666 passes in his glittering three-year career.
