Best QB in this draft
Cam Newton: I dont think he will be a bust or a stud. Average qb
Blaine Gabbert: Bust. Played in an offense where it's difficult not to put up stellar numbers. Has a quirky delivery and I don't see any film of him making throws that translate to the NFL and make you think that very few others can make.
Jake Locker: Another bust. Good arm strength, VERY spotty accuracy and an ugly delivery.
Andy Dalton: Career back up
Ryan Mallett: Better version of JaMarcus Russell
Colin Kaepernick: Poor man's Vince Young. Wont amount to much at all
BEST QB IN THE DRAFT: Ricky Stanzi. Mark it down.
Any opinions?
no one knows what they're talking about.
Of course there are some studs in certain years who would do well with any team (Peyton comes to mind), but my opinion is it all depends who drafts the player. Aaron Rodgers going to the Lions or Raiders with no offensive options and a bad defense could've changed his whole career path. Roethlisberger going somewhere besides a solid Pittsburgh team? Early qb picks have a ton more pressure to pick things up fast or get major fan backlash, which can make a major mental impact to some young guys.
i think Ryan Mallett and Jake Locker are the top 2 QBs Ryan Mallett has a laser arm and Jake Locker refuses to lose
What exactly does the phrase "refuses to lose" mean? He lost a lot of games in college...
his team from the dead on bring them to a win and if you look at washington they dont quite have the most talented team out there. and the perfect example of this happening was this year when they were 3-6 and he took his team and lead them to become bowl eligable and win a bowl game against a tough Nebraska team
against Nebraska? Does that not count for some reason?
were throw aways because instead of throwing directly into a defenders chest he threw the ball away which is a smart play

I have an extra rubber if you wanna use it.
I agree... I like Locker, but I really think that Mallett will be amazing!
Jake Locker is Drew Stanton 2.0... except this time teams other than the Lions actually think he is good.
I think Ryan Mallett in terms of ability for the NFL is the best.
He just can't die of alcohol poisoning or miss practice, thats his biggest problem.
So was Ryan Leaf. So was JaMarcus Russell.
I think Gabbert has him beat with his footwork.
I don't think any of them will amount to much in the end. Who's the best back up? I dunno.
I don't think this is a good year for drafting a qb. I have my doubts with the mental aspect of the qb's in this draft. The speed and complexity of the NFL defenses will neutralize the physical tools that Newton, Mallet, Locker, etc bring to the table.
I don't see any of them succeeding to be honest. But Locker gas the best chance IMO
I agree that I don't like any of the QBs that much this draft, but I can't really agree with Stanzi. While he reduced his INTs and played more consistently this season (albeit to a worse record), I always felt Iowa won despite Stanzi 2009. He helped on comebacks, but it wasn't his arm that was winning those fourth quarters for the Hawkeyes last year and I think you need a better arm to be good in the NFL.
If I had to draft a QB, my list would be Gabbert/Dalton/Locker. Go for a quarterback with a good head on his shoulders and would do the work to win. So maybe Stanzi but I'm not spending a 1st-round pick on him.
In reality I wouldn't even draft a QB this year, preferring to try something in the trade/free agency market for a serviceable QB in the mean time, especially with the uncertainty this season and Andrew Luck/Landry Jones or (stretching it here) Matt Barkley coming out next year. Go for the smart pick and draft a great lineman or gap in your skill position.
Hate America?
we can look forward to "The Stanzi 6?"
I think locker is underrated. He had little line protection and very few weapons to throw to, but he has all the talent, desire, and work ethic to succeed in this league. I also think Dalton could be a starter eventually.
but he doesn't have accuracy, which seems way more important.
Maybe he doesn't have the accuracy because he has no time due to his O-line or no one gets open due to his weak surrounding talent
and we horrendously overrate the importance of intangibles.
How can you overrate an offensive line? If you are given like 2-3 seconds to make a throw to receivers who can't get open, I don't care if you are Tom Brady or Peyton Manning, you aren't going to complete many passes either.
and I don't pretend Washington was a good team.
I am just amused that we've decided none of Jake Locker's struggles had anything whatsoever to do with Jake Locker.
He may be a poor QB, I don't know. But I do think he has a great arm, great mobility, and great smarts with an ability to learn. I think you take the risk on his accuracy by surrounding him with some real talent.

There is no nice way to say this - Locker does not even have average "smarts." Even the local Seattle media pretty much admit this.

So your basis is an opinion by the local media? Ok well the Freep said that RR didn't understand what it was to be a Michigan coach, isolated former players, wasn't a "Michigan Man", and set out an agenda to put him down and defile him any chance they got. Forgive me if I am not swayed by a local media opinion.
And I am not arguing that he is an accurate passer either, I just think that he has a lot of upside and maybe that inaccuracy will disappear when he has some actual talent surrounding him.
Why would my Titans do this?

I am amazed as I don't see to many of us.
I am happy with the Locker pick, been calling for it all season long.
There are a few of us here.
For some reason, I have a feeling that in the end Dalton will end up the best of the QB crew. Or, it'll end up that some dude picked in the 6th round will outplay them all.
The lions need him.
I don't know which one will best, but I'm pretty sure it won't be Stanzi. The kid hardly struck fear in opponents and threw a pick-six virtually every game. Plus, he's kind of an idiot.
If I were drafting in the early part of the first round this year, the best value would be to trade back. There is a ton of quality in this draft but not a lot of players that jump out to me.
His O-Line was not that good and when he did have time to set his feet his receivers dropped alot of passes, IMO.
As for a bust i think it's a toss up between Newton and Gabbert.
The best quarterback from this class is absolutely going to be Pat Devlin.
/s
he seems like a pretty good QB will most likely be drafted by the colts in the 4th round and properly developed behind peyton
Dolphins may pick him up in the 2nd round. Have to find someone to replace Pat White's production......
pick someone like tyrod taylor he could end up being that best player because he is taller than Mike Vick and has a MUCH better arm
Vick's got a cannon, albeit with a hitch in his delivery.

It's not that he won't be a good quarterback, loads of talented quarterbacks come from division 1-AA schools. I just think that both Dalton and Locker are more likely to succeed sooner and at a better level.
EDIT: And FWIW, I do think Devlin will wind up better than Stanzi.
I'll put my $ on Mallett.
Ryan Mallett is the best talent in this draft by far...the guy reminds me of Drew Bledsoe

Christian Ponder - smart and accurate which is what you need to be a quarterback. Plus he will be set up to win playing with Adrian Petersen.
The other players I like are Jake Locker and Andy Dalton. But honestly I like Jake Locker more. Granted he wasn't very accurate but honestly Washington's team was absolute dog shyatt. The recievers get zero separation. I think people will be surprised with how good he becomes.

Locker or Gabbert. Easily. Newton and Ponder picks are a disgrace.

Best QB has to be Gabbert. I mean, have you seen his hair?
