Best QB in this draft

Cam Newton: I dont think he will be a bust or a stud. Average qb

Blaine Gabbert: Bust. Played in an offense where it's difficult not to put up stellar numbers. Has a quirky delivery and I don't see any film of him making throws that translate to the NFL and make you think that very few others can make.

Jake Locker: Another bust. Good arm strength, VERY spotty accuracy and an ugly delivery.

Andy Dalton: Career back up

Ryan Mallett: Better version of JaMarcus Russell

Colin Kaepernick: Poor man's Vince Young. Wont amount to much at all

BEST QB IN THE DRAFT: Ricky Stanzi. Mark it down.

Any opinions?

Of course there are some studs in certain years who would do well with any team (Peyton comes to mind), but my opinion is it all depends who drafts the player. Aaron Rodgers going to the Lions or Raiders with no offensive options and a bad defense could've changed his whole career path. Roethlisberger going somewhere besides a solid Pittsburgh team? Early qb picks have a ton more pressure to pick things up fast or get major fan backlash, which can make a major mental impact to some young guys.

I agree that I don't like any of the QBs that much this draft, but I can't really agree with Stanzi. While he reduced his INTs and played more consistently this season (albeit to a worse record), I always felt Iowa won despite Stanzi 2009. He helped on comebacks, but it wasn't his arm that was winning those fourth quarters for the Hawkeyes last year and I think you need a better arm to be good in the NFL.

If I had to draft a QB, my list would be Gabbert/Dalton/Locker. Go for a quarterback with a good head on his shoulders and would do the work to win. So maybe Stanzi but I'm not spending a 1st-round pick on him.

In reality I wouldn't even draft a QB this year, preferring to try something in the trade/free agency market for a serviceable QB in the mean time, especially with the uncertainty this season and Andrew Luck/Landry Jones or (stretching it here) Matt Barkley coming out next year. Go for the smart pick and draft a great lineman or gap in your skill position.

Intensity is a lot of guys that run fast.

There is no nice way to say this - Locker does not even have average "smarts." Even the local  Seattle media pretty much admit this.

So your basis is an opinion by the local media?  Ok well the Freep said that RR didn't understand what it was to be a Michigan coach, isolated former players, wasn't a "Michigan Man", and set out an agenda to put him down and defile him any chance they got.  Forgive me if I am not swayed by a local media opinion.

I don't know which one will best, but I'm pretty sure it won't be Stanzi. The kid hardly struck fear in opponents and threw a pick-six virtually every game. Plus, he's kind of an idiot.

His O-Line was not that good and when he did have time to set his feet his receivers dropped alot of passes, IMO.

As for a bust i think it's a toss up between Newton and Gabbert.

It's not that he won't be a good quarterback, loads of talented quarterbacks come from division 1-AA schools. I just think that both Dalton and Locker are more likely to succeed sooner and at a better level.

EDIT: And FWIW, I do think Devlin will wind up better than Stanzi.

I think they're all going to be a reach but for the value and the spot you could get him in I really like Colin Kapernick. He has a 3 quarter release which is a little low but he is 6 foot 4 and has a good arm and would fit great in a west coast scheme. If I were a gm I would have had a hard time pulling trigger on some of those qb's as high as they went.

Christian Ponder - smart and accurate which is what you need to be a quarterback.  Plus he will be set up to win playing with Adrian Petersen.

The other players I like are Jake Locker and Andy Dalton.  But honestly I like Jake Locker more.  Granted he wasn't very accurate but honestly Washington's team was absolute dog shyatt.  The recievers get zero separation.  I think people will be surprised with how good he becomes.
