Basketball snowflakes
Hey on the bright side, I dont think we have to worry about anyone leaving for the NBA this year, so we'll have the whole team back next year. Also Harbaugh.
December 20th, 2014 at 1:59 PM ^
There's no excuse for Michigan Basketball ever being this bad.
December 20th, 2014 at 2:15 PM ^
How far basketball has come. Would not have seen anyone saying this 5-10 years ago.
December 20th, 2014 at 2:15 PM ^
Maybe I'm missing your schtick but do you have a positive thought ever? You must not remember the ellerbe days.
December 20th, 2014 at 2:22 PM ^
There wasn't a great excuse during the Ellerbe days either, though we did have outdated facilites and were still reeling from one of the worst scandals in CBB history.
I'm not being negative. I'm just pointing out the obvious. Teams all over the country are winning games with freshman and sophomore starters, and we're losing to NJIT. With our resources, that's ridiculous.
December 20th, 2014 at 2:27 PM ^
That's fair, I just didn't think this was a team destined for greatness, they lost too much talent and there isn't a true scorer to go to.
December 20th, 2014 at 2:29 PM ^
and slightly terrified to hear what you say when you are being negative!
December 20th, 2014 at 2:23 PM ^
The team is young. Also, I am guessing that you don't remember the Ellerbe-Amaker years.
Give them a little bit of time. The big guys need to develop and more shots need to fall. They obviously miss Nik Stauskas more than we would have thought. I knew we all expected LeVert or Irvin to step in and fill the void, but it hasn't quite happened that way yet.
My best guess: they get hammered for a couple of weeks in the Big Ten, get sick of it and take a Beilein Leap.
December 20th, 2014 at 2:26 PM ^
Just enough to get a high seed in the NIT
December 20th, 2014 at 2:28 PM ^
Our oldest starter had more turnovers than points today. Youth is certainly a problem, but the bigger problem is that our young players just don't look very talented.
December 20th, 2014 at 3:09 PM ^
"we are young" makes me naseous
December 20th, 2014 at 3:23 PM ^
it was a terrible song....had it's place. The group's name is dumb, though.
December 20th, 2014 at 3:17 PM ^
My undergrad years, 2003-2007, Tommy Amaker. Trust me it can be much worse. At least I still had fun. Man I loved Ekpe Udoh.
December 20th, 2014 at 2:00 PM ^
Just saw the score. Wow. This sucks.
December 20th, 2014 at 2:01 PM ^
We will win the Big Ten.

I'm hoping they can least make A postseason tournament.

We will be lucky to make nit

Or perhaps the CBI?

well until 2 weeks ago today.
December 20th, 2014 at 2:04 PM ^
That our front line was pitiful and would cost us at least 10 games and guys jumped down my throat. Time for Coach B and the boys to hit the road and look for some bigs or next year will be the same. We might not make the NIT this year. At this point, I will gladly sacrifice a year of suffering in all sports to land one Jim Harbaugh.
December 20th, 2014 at 2:12 PM ^
Signed,
The Michigan athletes in all of the other sports
December 20th, 2014 at 2:34 PM ^
maybe there were other factors that made those guys not a match, but, on the face of it, this was a terrible move.
Because really, what value is it to have Bielfeldt, who is gone after this year, anyway, out on the court playing important minutes?
Would make such a difference to have brought someone in, and it was so doable.
Otoh, all you moops who were falling over yourselves about keeping Hatch on an athletic scholarship are the same people blasting this same staff. That spot could be a big man transfer - you liked it then, live with it now.
December 20th, 2014 at 5:37 PM ^
There's only two scholarships left to give out over the next two years. One of those it looks like is going to go to a point guard, the other probably to a wing 3/4 type. With Teske coming in 2016, these are our bigs the next 3-4 years. There will be no new recruits, so we will need to develop the guys we have.
December 20th, 2014 at 2:04 PM ^
Hopefully we can regroup against our next opponent and get ready for the Bug Ten season.
December 20th, 2014 at 3:20 PM ^

No, the NBA isn't going to touch Caris or Zack. Which is indeed good news. Because if we lost either one of those guys, next year would make this year look like a run to the final four. They need to marinate in coach's wisdom, and we need to get Ricky up to snuff.
December 20th, 2014 at 2:07 PM ^
Yeah Levert had more turnovers than points today. He has the same chance of being in the first round as I do.
December 20th, 2014 at 2:46 PM ^
may also become effective at the 4 if he can consistently knock down the 3. i'm sure it's all he and doyle can do right now just to learn the 5.
this season ain't over. i expect the 3 point shooting to progress toward expectations; consistently > 40%. not the 20% we saw today. and with that, the wins will follow.
December 20th, 2014 at 2:05 PM ^
At least it was close
December 20th, 2014 at 2:07 PM ^
there is no 'go-to' guy. If you are going to have an outside shooting team, you have to have some inside threat to open that up. They don't really have an inside or outside threat right now. It's gonna be a long season.
December 20th, 2014 at 2:07 PM ^
The team looks like they have no heart or awareness.
December 20th, 2014 at 2:08 PM ^
I thought they played reasonably hard today. They just don't do anything well on offense. They can't shoot from long range, and they can't get close enough to the rim to shoot from short range. It's just a really bad team.
December 20th, 2014 at 2:17 PM ^
There are four guys on this team that shot 40% from three last year. So that's kind of bullshit, actually.
We're missing a cocky asshole who will go get his and a leader who gets everyone organized, particularly on defense.
Not that I'm referring to anyone in particular or anything.
December 20th, 2014 at 2:54 PM ^
Awesome. What are they doing this year?
December 20th, 2014 at 3:22 PM ^
I thought that energy was lacking last game, but today everyone showed a lot of fire. Unfortunately heart & hustle isn't enough, but it was good to see.
December 20th, 2014 at 2:07 PM ^
1 year of Sanderson for our players will be good for them, but we need to get a stud 7 footer down low in the class of 2015. Look overseas. I don't care.
December 20th, 2014 at 2:49 PM ^
we have a 7 footer commited for 2016. i don't think you can go with 4 scholarship centers. maybe if donnal can play the 4 position.
December 20th, 2014 at 2:07 PM ^
No disrespect, but he's the type of player that could use a full four years and then will still very likely do well in the pros. He has to look at the amount of time McGary and GRIII are spending in the D-League. I hope he does come back. This same roster next year could do well with more experience and just a fresh 0-0 record in '15-'16.
I don't think Beilein exactly counted on this in his recruiting outlook. He may have been thinking GRIII and McGary were going to be gone, but not Stauskas and Horford. I haven't checked the '16 and '17 recruiting prospects but it makes me nervous.
Here's hoping the NBA and NCAA go to a two-and-done model like has been rumored, similar to hockey and baseball. You can go pro out of high school and also be drafted, but if you go to college it needs to be for at least two years (I don't know the equivalent rules for hockey and baseball but I think they're similar or possibly all four).
That would deplete Kentucky, Duke and Kansas somewhat and level the playing fleid, and I think Michigan would benefit greatly from this approach. Izzo's model probably would, too, as would Wisconsin and maybe Ohio State, but at least Calipari's semi-pro teams would be broken up.
Having said all that, nothing about that rule would have saved us in this losing streak this year.
December 20th, 2014 at 2:16 PM ^
I agree with GRIII but injuries are what is keeping McGary out. He played a few D league games to get back into game shape but then was re-injured after getting back to OKC
December 20th, 2014 at 2:20 PM ^
All the other pieces are there, they're just shooting poorly and playing sloppy which are both bewildering.
It's like one of our rivals managed to put something in the Gatorade supply for both our football and basketball programs to drain a percentage of their athleticism and mental focus. Both programs just look a half step/half second slower than everyone else.
