Basketball: Jarron Cumberland visiting Monday
4 star top 100 SG is now visiting AA on Monday. It looks like Coach B may have known or acted quickly with the Battle news. Here is to the debate between Langford or Cumberland.

Visiting Michigan Monday
Langford isn't happening. He isn't happy about Michigan taking Battle over him. Cumberland is our best option at this point. Battle kind of screwed us over a bit, but whatever.
Not sure how Langford thinks UM took Battle over him, sounds to me like he should commited sooner if wanted to go to Michigan. And yeah, the Battle family kind of screwed Michigan over... big time.
Langford had a long time to pull the trigger on Michigan before they accepted Battle's commitment.
Dudeness - where are you getting that?
Yeah. That was my thinking. That recruitment felt like on of those situations where the kid goes to UK/Duke right before signing day despite pledging high interest in UM all along. I trust Beilein can win with the kids he wants, and doggedly chasing a 1-year kid who had months to commit seems like a waste of resources.
Balas over at Rivals.
This isn't at all a shot at you, but isn't he generally pretty full of it?
HIs football stuff is better than his basketball stuff IMO. I wouldn't say he is full of it. I am just relaying what is on the rivals board. They are saying we have nearly 0% chance at Langford.
I understand that you're just relaying it.
If Battle goes to Syracuse and also cost Michigan a chance at Langford, then...
Langford may not happen, but I kinda doubt it's because Michigan took a commit from another player. I mean, the guy is looking at MSU, Duke, and UK - not exactly schools that don't recruit other kids.
Cumberland would be a nice pickup, but I like to think most of these decisions at the top-100 level are made largely independently of what the school did with other recruits. If you are that good, you don't care much about competition and what schools did with other kids.
Where did you hear that Langford was upset about Michigan taking Battle?
I'm pretty sure Langford understands that Michigan didn't take Battle over him. They were still recruiting him after Battle committed, no?
Sam said Michigan has stayed in contact throughout. This other guy jumped the spot. Like you said, we did not choose Battle over him.
He was a heavy lean for us. I think Langford is assessing options, and we might just have to wait.
Uhh, Langford is better by quite a bit. That being said, Langford is an elite talent and it shouldn't discount the fact that Cumberland is still a very nice player. I'd be surprised if Langford wasn't a 1-and-done, so it may be better long-term to get a guy like Cumberland who appears to be a 4-year player.
Yeah. I think the argument should be if a 3rd-year Cumberland is better than a 1st-year Langford. I agree Langford is the better player right now, but his value drops a bit if he's a solid-if-inconsistent freshman and then in the NBA while Cumberland is a solid 2/3-year provider on the team in college.
There is a lot to be said for pointing out that Langford or Battle could only be around for one year and not even be that great during that one year. Kelly Oubre is a great example of that kind of player - Kansas really didn't get much out of him.
Well let's be honest, if Langford goes to MSU he will be around for 4 years and ultimately end up playing in Europe.
Shouldn't the multiple high star busts be attacked like crazy by competing coaches.
Never developing high level talent.

If you can say "they are almost guaranteed a final four appearance" then I can say "they are almost guaranteed to be playing pro ball in Turkey."
I would take money and the NBA, over getting mollywhopped in the final four and my head coach blaming me for it every day of the week.
Stayed 4 years , Izzo helped develop his game, played a key role in the NBA finals, max contract. Was not even a top 50 out of HS.
WHo says Izzo does not develop his players????
I'm sure the beating they got at the hands of Duke this year really drove home the point that MSU was a place where you could compete for titles and not, say, stumble through a weak NCAA draw.
MSU can tout the final four trips as much as they want, but this isn't the early-00's when MSU consistently produced top-notch squads. If you check out their more recent history, it's basically once every 4-5 years that they have a competitive squad and then a bunch of so-so outfits. It's obviously still impressive, but it's not like they are a truly elite squad most years.
He'll have gained 20 pounds of msucle, lost 2 inches on his vertical, and barely be able to throw the ball toward the hoop, but my gawd he'll play with grit!
Draymond Green
Yeah. I think people envision all 1-and-done kids as being like Carmelo, Durant, etc. and just dominate in college, but that isn't really the case. Hell, Blake Griffin was a highly-regarded guy who took 2 years to really get going. And with the salary bumps in the NBA coming with the new TV deal, it behooves kids to get into the NBA as soon as possible so that even if their first contract isn't huge, their next one will be. So while it absolutely sucks to lose out on elite prospects, the way the college and pro games are set up, I'm not sure unless you are a UK/Duke-type team you get a huge benefit out of one-year players with talented-but-immature games.
I really wanted to see what a JB team would look like with a Tyus or a Jaylen Brown in the fold.
I seem to remember good things happening the last time we took a player from Ohio who Thad Matta didn't offer:

was a plan A type kid as he was offered day 1 by the coaching staff. They got him. Just because he isn't as highly touted as Battle does not mean he wasn't the staff's top choice for the position.

Please get Langford, hold off on offering this kid for as long as possible. Langford my man go blue.
