Which is exactly why I think we need to stop whining about OSU's class as our class is a lot more talented than a standard top 10. Oh, also, I'd like to believe our coaches can actually coach too. Assuming that statement is correct (sarcasm - it is), Clemson is a good example as to why we will be fine with top 5 classes.

Very true. I think we had that and will continue to on defense. However, we need a back that can make his own yards despite an average line. I am higher on speight than many. He was inconsistent and has limitations (like every qb) but when he was on he showed he had many NFL type traits. I think he will get better with consistency with more playing time and will eventually be a 2nd-4th round draft pick. Anyways, I think we need one of the young wr to become like Cain or Williams for him. I think we have the Cain type of wr that can turn a screen into an explosive play. I just hope that one, or more, of the big bodied wrs in this class could be that guy you throw the fade even if he is covered because they are going to go up and get it. Because Williams really killed bama in that aspect.

This is going to sound very homerish, so I might as well start with that disclaimer lol. Admittedly, I have watched more film on Michigan recruits than osu. However, I have watched film of alot of they guys that committed to them over the summer. And feel like many of them are overrated. I will not name names, but several did not do well in camp settings like the opening. Additionally, I think some are overrated just based off of physical limitations like their size. They have guys that are 5 stars that are extremely undersized to be considered elite college prospects. And it us even stranger if you consider the criteria 247 sports uses and that is NFL protential. This is not to say they are all overrated. Some look to be legit studs. However, think many of their 4.5-5 stars are overrated. Conversely, I think Michigan has kids that are underrated because of where they play school at. Some of the kids like black showed this in the army AA game setting. I think the two classes are closer in talent than many people think because of star rating.

Anyone that slows down the Alabama death star and the League of Extraordinary Bagmen is OK by me.

I know every fan base has its knuckleheads, but every Bama fan I've ever met has been gracious, knowledgable and respectful.  That includes the couple that checked into this site around the time of the game in Jerry World a few seasons ago.  (One congratulated me for my sophistication, "for a Yankee," when I asked about the Auburn Degree and the Roll Tide poster on the wall of his office.)

And while I'm on this stream of conciousness, Andy Staples is normally an insightful commentator who has solid thoughts worth considering.  We Michigan fans don't always agree with him, but he's generally not stupid.  Which is why I was surprised to see him file a column today with the most inane, obvious and consistently wrong premise in all of sports.  "These two teams will play again in next year's championship!"  Really?!  You're going to ride with that?  Any team, no matter how much more talented than their opponents, has to navigate a minefield of losable games to get to a Championship.  Sure, this year was a rematch.  That is a vanishingly unlikely result.  If rematch was merely a premise to talk about how much talent the two teams have coming back, and their history of "reloading" (another canard that is done to death by everyone from the student newspaper to high priced color analysts on major network telecasts), just say "they could be back..."

I was talking to my wife about bama fans during the game. She is from Utah and was just a casual Utah fan that did not know much about football before we started dating. However, since then he has grown into a full fledge Michigan fan and gained alot of knowledge about the game. I have also read her some of the more crazy comments from RCMB so she has grown to hate msu fans. Anyways, she went to Vegas this summer for her cousins batchlorette party and came back to tell me how I ruined her life. I was intrigued and asked how. She then proceeds to tell me she is at one of those pool parties the casinos throws with all the girls. All was good until she runs into a msu fan. Apparently, she spent 2 hours or so refuting crazy/ irrational things you find from RCMB that she never expect someone to say or believe in real life. The guy basically regurgitated all their talking points from harbaugh will leave soon and he has not won anything yet anyways, to they were not they outplayed Michigan in last year's game from start to finish, and that their dominance will for sure continue despite losing everyone and Michigan on the rise. They argued the most about how msu was lucky to make the playoffs. She told him they should have lost 2 more games minimum. He acted like they were not extremely lucky to win numberous games and acted like wmu, Purdue, Rutgers, osu and michigan were games they got very fortunate not to lose She was shocked that they are as delusional in real life as they were online. Although, she was a little ashamed that she has become such a football/ Michigan fan that she would argue with a dumb state fan for 2 hours at a pool party in Vegas... Lol Conversely, she ran into a bunch bama fans too and said they just said roll tide a bunch, but where the opposite of the msu fans when talking football. So, I had to explain to her bama is not evil because of their fans. They are evil because of their recruiting/ roster management practices.

The man had a chronic tobacco habit, like round-the-clock... but this was a decade ago, someone that worked closely with him told me... he could have kicked it by now. Not talking dip, but straight cheekful of tobacco, Red Man. Possible it fried his mouth something serious. Hope our coach quits that shit... dumb habit (granted, Jim may just be a dip guy). Love the guy and want him healthy.

I feel like saban gets all the credit while the bagman are just as important to their recent success. Wait a sec...I take that back. Saban's treating his roster like an NFL roster by using things like oversigning, last second forced grey shirt and forced bs medicals (because of oversigning) deserves credit too. It is probably like 50% coaching ability and 50% bagman/finding unethical loopholes.

Saban is obviously a great college football head coach, not sure how anybody could debate that.

I think some would argue that he's not a great tactical or strategic coach in that he only wins because he has superior talent.  Some would look to his NFL career as evidence to support this.

That said...he was solid at MSU, rebuilt LSU to a national title, and now built a Bama dynasty. Whatever his recruiting methods, there's no doubt that he can build a program, from player acquisition to hiring the right assistant coaches.

I don't think there is much to this agrument though. He was with Nick for a few years, sure. However, he was a position coach for him and an DC for the sweater vest. Not to mention he was with tressel for much longer and, if I'm not mistaken has his son on the staff now. If you are going to argue what coach was a mentor to mark, the more sound arguement is tressel IMO. It can be seen by the fact that the msu program looks more like a tressel run program from an offensive/defensive philosophical standpoint. I mean, if there is a phrase to describe their offence over the years when they have the lead it is tressel ball. I think it is a massive stretch to say saban paved the way for msu success under dantonio. Again, sure he coached with him for four years so I'm sure mark learned alot from him and dies incorporate many things from saban. However, tressel was a far bigger influence on him. Moreover, and probably most importantly their was several years of bad msu football between saban leaving and mark taking over. I don't like dantonio because of his consistent remarks about Michigan, to only act like Michigan is arrogent and takes shots at them unprevoked. But he built that program up. Just like I also don't like saban because of his unethical roster management and recruiting tactics that allow him to get all star rosters. However, I do give him credit for rebuilding bama and lsu, albeit I don't respect it because I see the foundation as being built on cheating.

Coaching a bunch of 5 star players isn't easy, either. Only people who have never coached think it is that simple. It's arguably harder to take a bunch of players who were the best of the best wherever they came from and make them put their egos aside and play together at the highest level. There's no logical reason to try to discredit that.
