Austin Davis Ratings Bump 247
Austin Davis has been bumped up to a 4*, #10 center and #82 overall by 247. The other services have not yet acted so his composite is lower. Coach Beilein way ahead of the curve as always.

The Beilein Bump continues!

Any comments from the people who had issues with JB from the Hello thread.
Michigan is still set to have four centers and two true guards (Walton and Rahk) in 2016 at this moment. That may well change, but I think the timing of adding Davis before a guard - particularly a point guard - was odd, though in retrospect Coach Beilein knew Hatch's scholarship was very likely to be available when he offered Davis.
I thought about the roster distribution a bit after Davis committed and realized that Michigan had five center-types in 2012-2013: McLimans, Beilfeldt, McGary, Morgan, and Horford. But they also had Trey, Spike, LeVert, Hardaway, Stauskas, and Vogrich. So there were a lot of guys who were very comfortable playing in the backcourt and/or handling the ball.
The 2016 guard-ish players right now will be (in addition to Walton and Rahk) Chatman, Irvin, and Robinson. At this moment, that doesn't leave you with as many ballhandlers as you'd like for a Beilein offense. It's not a huge issue, but it's not nothing either.
A final thought: It's possible right now, though admittedly not likely, that Michigan ends up in a scholarship crunch in which it can't take a new PG in 2016 and therefore has to add two new PGs in 2017.
Summary: I don't feel bad about wondering whether adding Davis at this time was the greatest idea.
and staff because they probably have no clue this is going on?
And then we watched Full Metal Jacket and ended up talking about our fathers. It was kind of a weird night.

Watching Full Metal Jacket is kind of like talking about my father.
My concern was never that Davis wasn't a good player. It was more in terms of team needs and roster balance. If Davis reclassifies as a 2017 then that alleviates those concerns.
In any event, it looks like Davis is a pretty good prospect and JB may have got in before some other prospects.

Yep.
Michigan could have maintained the relationship without offering a scholarship, and then extended an offer when he either blew up, or other schools came sniffing.
that Coach Beilein is better at evaluating talent than they themselves are.
Another example of The Michigan Difference.
It's also why John Belein is a successful coach with 642 wins, and the people working at the rating services are .... not.
It's hard not to think that this is just 247 saying "well shit, everyone Beilien identifies as offer worthy ends up being at least 4* talent, lets just give it to him and chances are we'll look smart"
That's what i'd do if I were them.
While its possible to think that, I don't think this is the prevailing opinion of why his rating was improved. Some people just don't like admitting they're wrong...
My initial thought as well. When good talent evaluators offer the "website gurus" probably quickly re-evaluate their old thoughts and give a bump.
Also happens in football when specific schools (like us) offer guys.
Sounds like a good way for Coach B to make some money on the side.
This is what I was thinking... he already had a lot of big programs interested and then showed well against top competition
essentially went from a 3* to a 4* once we offered. It is just something that happens with major college offers. For those now chastising those who were concerned about the balance factor of the team, why is 247's change any more valid tnow than the previous lower one? Live with players rankings; die with player rankings.
He looks to have the make-up of a dominant center.
sporting my old school block M maize hat ... making it visible to all those potential Wolverines ... thats it. Gotta look up a UM Alum hangout.
That's why they say having faith is believing in things that you cannot see.
It's easy to jump on a bandwagon, but hard to be "all in" when everyone is getting out.
Same with stocks... it takes guts to buy stocks when they are hitting rock bottom.
His point is all you need to have faith in is Beilein. The bandwagon should begin with him.
The internet is the antidote to the 3 star mafia
It's almost as annoying as the people who said this was a great pick up and are now using 247's bump to support their argument in retrospect.
which is perfectly reasonable in recruiting; everything is retrospect. No one cares we had great football recruiting classes when States' players are better. Here, Beilein gets credit if this is a true bump and he spotted a developing kid at the bottom of his peak trajectory development curve. Not sure why this is a problem.
Furthermore, what will make you happy? We are currently thought to be in the drivers seat for the top overall prospect and a kid who committed to us is now thought more highly after he became known.
He freaked out about the rankings for a 16 year old kid and said a bunch of awful shit about a young man who committed to play basketball at a school he's ostensibly a fan of. People pointed out both that the rankings were likely to improve (as they did with guys like Stauskas, GRIII, etc.) and that the kids Beilein offers tend to end up being good at basketball regardless of their ranking (a'la Burke, Spike, LeVert, Dawkins, etc.).
That's why he's been repeatedly banned from this site and makes up new cartoon characters a few times a year so he can return and post his uninformed horseshit incessantly.
There is no reason to argue with him.

Basketball is too weird to predict. Maybe 4 guys transfer. Maybe 3 guys go Pro. JB knows what is up.
I will never question JB recruiting. Inbounding timeouts/plays on the other hand...I kid...kinda.

Will be funny when he is #1 overall in 12 months. Boom.
Levert and Jaylen Brown to the NBA next year, we will have another spot open.
:D
Jaylen Brown has mentioned that he doesn't think one and done is the best path for him. Seems to most likely be a 2 and done.
Unless something wacky happens I don't see the #2 guy staying 2 years. Something about the plans of mice and men applies here.
First world problems. Let's just get him here and enjoy the 1 year if that is all it is.
We will see what his tune is when he is projected to go in the top 10 and to make millions of dollars.

as a top 3 pick, most of it are at #1 overall so he's pretty much one and done despite him saying he wants to stay for 2 years.
or from their high horses.
