for more money this year. He took some of it up front so his salary would appear to be more in line with his title and responsibilities.

Nooobody!

Durkin made out like a bandit - he did the exact same job for UF for $500K last year.
I guess the extra $300K perhaps slows him down if he wants a HC job in 2 years but I doubt it. Great deal for Durkin - very great deal.
February 7th, 2015 at 10:40 AM ^
If Durkin gets a HC job, it means that the U-M defense will have performed well enough for him to get recognition for a job well done. A few years of on-the-job training as a HC elsewhere will then position Durkin to be a potential successor to Harbaugh.

What the fuck have I been doing with my life...
February 6th, 2015 at 4:36 PM ^
It's good to be the... I guess, prince?
February 6th, 2015 at 4:36 PM ^
first of all, you haven't been coaching football. And your dad isn't Jim Harbaugh, your uncle John Harbaugh and your grandfather Jack Harbaugh.
Get off your ass and do something already!
February 6th, 2015 at 5:03 PM ^
I had the same thought. For years now, I've been doing the whole slow climb of the ladder thing, or trying to do that at least, when apparently all I really needed to do was get into football and earn my way onto a staff somewhere. I sort of feel like I did this the hardest way possible on some level, so I might go down there and see what's available this weekend.

If i was an assistant basketball coach i would be pissed lol. They get paid less than him lol

when your dad, the head coach, is pulling down $4+ million.
February 6th, 2015 at 5:08 PM ^
FUCK me. That's depressing.
February 6th, 2015 at 5:51 PM ^
Jay has no depression from his salary whatsoever.
In a sense, Jay's age, salary and father put him in the cross hairs. I went through the list of coaches, looked at their salaries, kept saying uh hum, uh hum, with no shock or surprise whatsover. I thought about Mattison's contract terms and wondered how his old contract was restructured.
Then I saw Jay's salary and I said WTF?
Just look at it this way. Coach Jim Harbaugh could have asked for more and we would have paid him, so just consider Jay's compensation as part of Jim's package. Blood pressure goes back down.
February 6th, 2015 at 6:42 PM ^
I don't get it. Jay Harbaugh is a regular assistant coach. Why is it shocking that he makes $175K? I mean, yeah, he's young. But if we believe he's the man to coach tight ends, he should be pulling down a salary like that. Did people think he was going to make much less?
February 6th, 2015 at 6:46 PM ^
It's not shocking... People just wish they were Jay Harbaugh... period.
February 8th, 2015 at 12:41 AM ^
I said "fuck me" as in "fuck my life" as in 175k a year? My sweet baby jesus...and at 25 nonetheless? I'm doing it wrong.
February 6th, 2015 at 5:16 PM ^
My thoughts exactly, fuck that's a lot of money. Plus the kid has a Super Bowl ring too.
Ann Arbors most eligible?

He's #2 behind Spike Albrecht.
February 6th, 2015 at 4:36 PM ^
All deals are 2-3 years with the exception of Fisch who is on a 1 year deal. Is is standard procedure to sign a HC to a long-term deal but leave the assistants to 2-3 years?

Also got relocation allowances. Dudes got paid
February 6th, 2015 at 5:39 PM ^
Because that's exactly what he was saying...
Randy Moss seems like a fun guy in his old age. I'm actually surprised he isn't on TV as an analyst somewhere.
Maybe he'll replace Warren Sapp?

Harbaugh's coaching staff is making ($3.747M), only 7% more than what Hoke's staff was making ($3.504M). The increase in position coaches salaries is partially offset by the decrease in the coordinators' salaries and Jedd Fisch's/Jay Harbaugh's lower than average salaries.
February 6th, 2015 at 4:38 PM ^
Jay Harbaugh making 25k less than a former NFL OC with no degree, playing experience, or coaching experience.
Dat name tho.
February 6th, 2015 at 4:45 PM ^
Same as it ever was.
At least the kid seems to be a hard worker.
February 6th, 2015 at 4:49 PM ^
February 6th, 2015 at 4:55 PM ^
I'm still not the biggest fan of the hire but Jay Harbaugh has seemed impressive so far and Jim's thinking seems to be make a lot more sense than when the hire was announced.
February 6th, 2015 at 5:00 PM ^
Honest question - what exactly has he done so far that has seemed impressive?
He didn't land Clark, and he can't spell Adidas. That's all we know at this point.
February 6th, 2015 at 5:06 PM ^
Nothing worth giving a trophy out for, but he's seemed personable and relatable and enthusiastic.
Like I said, I still don't think it was a home run by any standard, but I am starting to see the thinking behind having him on staff.
February 6th, 2015 at 5:07 PM ^
February 6th, 2015 at 5:15 PM ^
His uncle kept him employed by a Super Bowl champion.
For all I know he is a super hard worker that deserved the job, but let's be real.

Jay Harbaugh has a degree from Oregon State in Sociology. Ignore if I misunderstood what you're saying.
February 6th, 2015 at 4:57 PM ^
so no degree.
February 6th, 2015 at 5:03 PM ^
In that case, I stand corrected regarding the degree. I thought he just did three years there and didn't finish.
With that said, 175k coming off a degree in Sociology from Oregon State really has to skew whatever graduate employment statistics the school puts out.
February 6th, 2015 at 7:03 PM ^
I'm pretty sure we'd require a degree for anyone to coach here.
February 6th, 2015 at 5:07 PM ^
Crazy to me that he didn't play college ball.
February 6th, 2015 at 5:08 PM ^
I think he had a bad knee so he couldn't play college football. Therefore, he went to Oregon State to be a undergrad assistant for the coach there and learn about coaching. There's an article about it that was floating around before.
February 6th, 2015 at 5:11 PM ^
Definitely didn't play college football. I don't think he even played in high school. I remember reading something about an injury but I'm not sure when it happened.
His dad called up Riley at OSU and got him into some program there as an assistant with the football team. I thought he stayed there for ~3 years and didn't get a degree, but according to others he has a degree from OSU in sociology.
